You know what’s wild about Jaune being the Rusted Knight? Everyone knows who he is. ‘The Girl who Fell Through the World’ is obviously a classic that’s been read by just about everyone as children. All of his friends, his classmates, his family, those kids he walked to and from school in Mantle. *Everyone* knows who he is. Imagine Blake listening to Kali or Ghira read her the story, waiting for her favorite part: when the Rusted Knight rides in on his Jackelope to save Alyx from the Jabberwalker. Imagine Weiss daydreaming about a knight riding to the rescue of his princess on the back of a big bunny, sweeping her up in his arms and riding off into the sunset, their happily ever after. Imagine Yang eagerly listening to the knight clash with the Jabberwalker and cheering when he strikes it down. Imagine Ruby being inspired by the Rusted Knight to be just like him: a hero who’s always there when they’re needed. Imagine Pyrrha wanting to become the very best warrior just like him, unaware that she would play a role in forging his legend. Imagine Nora and Ren huddled up together in a cave, taking shelter in a storm and reading about how the Rusted Knight fought and slew the big monster, taking comfort in the fact that at least in the fairy tails the heroes always win. And imagine Jaune with a toy shield and sword, pretending he’s the rusted knight, being carried on his father’s shoulders as he duels with the Jabberwalker, unaware that he’s recreating *his* *own* *battles* Just think about how Blake of all people reacted when he arrived to fight the Jabberwalker. She was giddy with excitement at seeing one of her childhood heroes in the flesh. If Jaune hadn’t removed his helmet, she probably would have asked for his autograph. From Atlas to Menagerie, the children of Remnant know the story of Alyx’s journey, and they know the Rusted Knight. When they play Ever After they argue over who gets to be the Rusted Knight and fight the Jabberwalker. And some of those children, knowingly or otherwise, are influenced by him to grow up and fight their own world’s monsters, to become huntresses and huntsmen, to be the defenders of Remnant and the shield between the innocent and the Grimm. Just like how the Rusted Knight has defended the Ever After from the Jabberwalker. Jaune is one of Remnant’s childhood heroes. And I think that’s beautiful.

I just had a thought back in volume 1 Glinda wasn't sure about Jaune but, Ozpin didn't seem too bothered so what if Ozpin knew Jaune had to go to beacon academy because, he knew he would fall into the ever after because, he knew Alyx (he did say he has lived through his far few) and he needed him there with Alyx so that she would write about him in a fairy tale which could of given one of his past lives the idea of huntsman and huntresses in the first place.

Given Jaune's personality, he might stay behind to look for each person who fell off and he was probably doing that since he first arrived. If there are any left, he more than likely going to stay and come back later.

I'm not trying to blame victims. But it was kinda Penny's own recklessness, arrogance and clouded judgment that got her killed. Abandoning his loved ones would only prove he's not a true Huntsman. How he got into Beacon is irrelevant. Plus Nora and Ren both know Jaune always has trouble forgiving himself.

Jaune looks old enough to be Team RWBY’s grandfather. I am looking forward to the girls’ reaction to this, especially Weiss who said the Rusted Knight was handsome. I don’t think Jaune will be returning to Remnant. Either he fights the Jabberwalker off to let RWBY escape, or he just wants to stay in the Ever After. If he does return to Remnant, I think he will be back to his young self like with Narnia.

How he aged is definitely a mystery that hopefully be answered next chapter. Although I fear for Ruby because not only her friend changed dramatically but now she will find out the full details of Penny's death.

His situation reminds me up an episode of ninja turtles (2012), where Mikey went to another dimension, then his brothers followed him a few minutes later, but when they got to that dimension, Mikey has been there for months. Enough time to get the lay of the land and then some.

First, it's clear Alyx has seen Jaunes face, otherwise she wouldn't have called him handsome in the book. Second, there is no way CRWBY can just leave him in the Ever After. He's got too much in Remnant waiting for him. His family, Ren and Nora, not to mention we still don't know why Tyrian is interested in him. There's just too much waiting for him and going for him back home. Third, he's just too good a character. I think it will be like a Narnia thing where he returns home after a long time to his original age. I think he could also be cursed. He was cursed to stay in the Ever After until the Jabberwalker is slain, then he will be redeemed. Also, maybe seeing Jaune suffering so much will be the thing that gives Ruby her spark back. She will see that Jaune needs help and she won't stop until she saves him. I don't think Jaune will die either. I think he could do like what happened to Alyx. He returns to Remnant a different person, wisdom wise. He gets his old body back, but keeps the memories of the Ever After. There's so much more to talk about with him, but these are the big ones I'll point out

I would go with this option @10:31 to just treat the Remnant characters like the characters in the Narnia movie. So have them experience alot, yet revert to their ages back to their original once they return to Remnant. This would also explain the words of Oscar, when he was rehearsing the story of Alyx. Alyx looked so sad at the end of the story and Ozpin did confirm "that Alyx was not the same girl anymore", maybe Alyx did look the same when returning, but with all the added experience she gained, she changed.

The other thing that gives me a sense that the Ever After has an overriding plan/will is Little. Everything in the Ever After has a purpose and knows its purpose. EXCEPT LITTLE. Little seems placed in the Ever After FOR Ruby. To help her, to be her guide, and most importantly to be her friend.

Time may pass differently in the Ever After. We'll just have to wait and see. I can't wait to get Jaune's backstory, with when he arrived, how long he's been there, what happened to him, things like that.

I agree that the state of Jaune's gear is hugely important. He's been making upgrades to his armor over his time in the Ever After (his "Rusted Knight" armor has numerous additional plates that his Atlas gear didn't), so clearly he either can modify his own gear or has access to someone like the Blacksmith who can. Either way, he clearly had the ability to reforge his sword or at least scour the rust off his gear, but has apparently chosen not to do any of that. I think you're right that this symbolizes Jaune's inability to move past what happened with Penny, but I think it also shows he's in danger of losing his identity in a similar way to what's happening with Ruby. Jaune obviously hasn't lost or given up symbolic pieces of his identity the way Ruby has, but his self-image is clearly tarnished and uncertain in a similar way. I think Ruby and Jaune are on somewhat parallel arcs (haha, sorry) character-wise and will need to help each other resolve those issues, especially since (as I've brought up before) they're the ones with the most to discuss about both Penny's *and* Pyrrha's deaths.

I just realised that if the Jabberwalker was made by the God of Darkness, you'd probably need something made by the God of Darkness to kill it. Magic was his gift to humanity, and Penny's sword is made of magic. I think Penny's sword will be the Vorpal sword, and Jaune will use it to kill the Jabberwock.

As much as i would love to see Jaune return to remnant, I ,sadly, believe that he will die in a fire in ever after, fulfilling the D'arc parallel. However since he wont be eaten, he will return after ascending. A rusty old knight reforged in fire into a shining white knight, a mighty warrior, but without his memories. This could be really interesting as the White Knight could be as far as personality is involved nearly inhuman, cold and distant. A stark contrast to Jaune. And this could give a lot of room for character development and interaction for others. Him loosing his memories, becoming this insanely powerful being and remembering Phyrrah in his fight with Cinder, unleashing this newly rediscovered anger and turning the tables on her at a crucial moment is a bit cliche, but still work.

I think the most likely way they play it is that Jaune has been there for some times. he seems a young girl and being the knight he is he saves her. He beings helping her thinking it is a way to help himself. Eventually they have the series of adventures from the tale, but Jaune doesn't realize it. Until probably at a point where she is able to leave and she tells him her name and it is then it clicks and he realizes what is going on but she leaves before he can give a warning of what is to come and he is left behind but know knows he is in the story and that if Alyx was here eventually team Rwby will be to and he just has to wait. for however long it will be.

I want old, grizzled, experienced, (mentally) acsended Jaune to fight and strike down Cinder (who's actually been rumoured to be the jabberwocky from a theory i heard like 5 years ago) to finally avenge his love and all the people she took (i'm guessing her power will then go to Blake buuuuut we'll see).

Thinking about the time relationship between The Ever After and Remnant, they don't follow the usual dimension travel rule of time at point "a" is equal to some proportional rate of time at point "B". Rather, like how the curious cat says, "you don't go to the tree, the tree comes to you", the point of time at point "A" is irrelevant when you cross the dimensions, but rather when you arrive at the Ever After, it's the point of time the world itself determines when and where you should be for the sake of rediscovering yourself or to get "infinity train" style therapy to become a better person.

Here is a thought that nobody has mentioned yet, assuming that when everyone returns to Remnant and it works similar to Alice, where will they end up. Will they be at the crossroads that may or may not exist, will they end up in Atlas because that was the entrance to the crossroads, will they end up in Vacuo because that is where the destination of the crossroads was/is, will it be a random place in Remnant, or will the tree not be able to return them because the last location ceased to be and the actual way to leave will be a different method.

Jaune seems like he has a lot of death flags but maybe that's what they want us to think. With all the pain we've been through for the last few volumes, I hope they cut us a break. To quote the 9th Doctor: Just this once, *EVERYBODY LIVES* I hope Jaune goes back with Team RWBY with the Vorpeal sword which could stop Cinder (not kill her, take something important from her: her powers). He can come back in his normal age but the years of being there are still there. The trauma and all.

As corny as it sounds it sounds could be a case of "your only as old as you feel". I don't anything ages in the Ever after but as you gain experience and live long enough you start feeling older so the Ever After responds to that and makes you look the part. I think it would be very whimsical that to get Jaune down to his original age RWBY needs to make him laugh again and through those happy feelings become his true self.

@@bruce4623 Seems to me that it's a theme for Jaune to take the weapons of the people close to him or that he failed and use them to become stronger...he added Pyrrha's weapons and armor to his own to make him stronger and he couldn't save her, so as a way to honor her sacrifice he used her weapons to keep fighting. Now that he was the one forced to kill Penny to prevent Cinder from getting more powerful, it seems like the most likely thing to do story wise is to take Penny's sword and add it to his own and making the Vorpal sword...or whatever they will call the RWBY version of it. Then he would have the symbolic powers of both the partial Fall Maiden and the full Winter Maiden.

Jaune's situation makes me think... where or when did (or when will) the other people fall in the Ever After? Multiple civilians also fell off of the path. Were one of them Alyx? How would she have fallen down there without using a relic? When Ruby looked at the weapons, Penny and Summer smiled at her, but Alyx was glaring with rage in her eyes. Does that imply that she is an angry person, angry at Ruby for inadvertently being the reason she fell, or simply angry at her situation? This raises so many questions 😭

I'm rather partial to the theory that the Ever After "reset" when Cinder wished away the Central Location, sending the Ever After back to a time long before even Alyx's time, but perhaps shortly after the Ever After had been established as a world of its own. Hence why Jaune arrived so early.

Jaune would make for a more straightforward guide than the Curious Cat at least. As for him going back with the others(Team RWBY) depends if he needs someone to take his place in the EverAfter or if he was just waiting for Team RWBY to show up. He looks tired and not just from spending decades in the EverAfter, if Jaune goes back with them it can't be as the Rusted Knight, he would need to be the Huntsman Jaune Arc. Though there's also the matter of his steed/mount Juniper to think about, whether or not she can come with them to Remnant or if they'll need to leave her behind.

I'm part happy/scared to see Jaune is the Rusted Knight. Like I'm just glad to see our boy again, but at the same time he's obviously been through a lot. Like I can't imagine him slowly losing hope that he thought that maybe he was the only one in the EverAfter. Like we're talking maybe 15-20 years by how much he's aged, all that time alone with no one from Remnant as far as we know. Is he going to be able to return to Remnant as he is? Can he ascend and if he even does, will he remember anyone from Remnant? The Curious Cat says people's heart still have a lingering remembrance but I can imagine the joy of Oscar/Nora/Ren seeing him again only for the heartbreak of Jaune not recognizing them. I'm very excited to see how the 2nd half of Volume 9 wraps this up.

I think Jaune's armor Being Rusted Could be from him falling into Water as When Exposed to Water Armor Rusts if not taken care of and I don't think that there is anything in the Ever After that could help restore his Armor without him giving up something of his own in return and All he can do is add on a little more and even those pieces rust in after time. He added the Helmet because he knew Alex would one day arrive and didn't think her knowing his face would be good for the timeline. His Armor is Rusted to the point where its become his Moniker Symbolic to how he is. Rusted Stripped of Everything His Friends, His Family, His World, His innocence, His Purpose, He has lost Everything and hangs on a Thread Hoping to One Day Find Team RWBY again. Letting Everything about himself Rust away over the Years as he sees himself useful for one Purpose To Wait For them Trying to be a Protector Against A Single Enemy by his Lonesome self with only a Baby Jack-o-Lope by his side that Grows into his Trusted mount. Jaune Is Broken and Deteriorated to the point where he might not even go back to Remnant as no one needs him there.

The whole Message of this seaseon seems to be, moving forward and becoming who or waht you need to be or will be and not stay trapped in your past and growing old there like Jaun has. Perhaps if jaun can finally let go of the pain and losses he is holding onto that have kept him there for so long he will shed the form of the old rusted knight and step out as a New and stronger Jaune with team rwby back on remnant with a new weapon and new destiny?

Like what if the Jaune we met at the beginning of RWBY, was actually the "Recreated" Jaune from the Ever After o.O Like what if he's been stuck in an infinite time loop where he has to keep experiencing everything leading up to him meeting RWBY in the Ever After, over and over and can't escape 😢

The funny and sad part about this is that jaune waiting for team RWBY after all those years kinda reminds me of that dog in futurama waiting for fry to return for a very long time not knowing that he's been cryogenicly frozen for a thousand years. Also jaune is a real one if you think about it. Man really waited for god knows how many years just for team RWBY to arrive he could of left at anytime(probably) but he chose to stay behind just for them. if thats not dedication i dont know what is. Also i dont know if its just me but i think Jaunes ascension will kinda be similar to joan of arcs. If i recall joan of arc was branded as a witch and thats why she was burned at the stake. And lastly i do hope rooster teeth do make a book series about jaune's adventures in ever after cause there a re a few episodes left and i dont know how they are going to fit the tale of his own journey in those episodes. And it's also ironic cause if he did fell in ever after first even before alex then that makes him the prequel to the girl who fell through the world. So like rooster teeth could make like 2 books of that story one of jaune's journey and one with alex's story. Also on a side note i feel like jaune would've been with alex through her entire journey (or somewhat half way through) only because it doesn't feel right to leave a child or whatever old alex was when she fell to be alone in an unknown world. Maybe he taught her something. After all this is RWBY and fairy tales in this show can be either exaggerated or something entirely different. so basically it could be a black myth. some parts of the girl who fell through the world could be exaggerated or not truthful to what actually happened.

That was the slander or common people misunderstanding in Joan. Part supposedly because she did not scream out in pain being burned which to the church is sign of a martyr to the faith not witchcraft but common folk might not know that. Thinking mid 30s earliest though. But I suspect they'll tell us next episode, if Jaune has been keeping track somehow in this spacetime time-bending world. Also remember, two suns will age someone twice as fast (physicists, mathematicians am I getting that right?), particularly someone as fair as Jaune. But we don't even know if the sun shines in every acre or if it's permanently night in the garden acre where it appears Jaune may live in that flower. In which case I have no idea how much Sun he gets. If you live in perpetual evening how slowly do you age? Also consider that while Jaune implied he's been here a while, maybe he sold his youth to guarantee the experience and lucky chances and timing necessary to meet and protect team RWBY as a certainty when they needed him so he would no longer lose anyone else. Just think how cool that would be.

I believe that Humanity, at the end of Volume 8 would fail to survive the battle for Remnant both against the Grim and the Brother Gods, but with the time spent in the Ever After, the team will push through their own personal issues and finish the fight.

I have a feeling that Jaunne is actually gonna part ways to an extent with the group. I feel like he will be reincarnated as the king we all theorized him to be descended from at the begining of the series. I think that when you enter and leave ever after, its at the points in which you need to be for the purpose you serve. As suggested by the curious cat. And that he himself passed the armor down to his family who actually are seperate from the royal bloodline in remnant. And as such, we will then find various things he has done in remnant to help team RWBY and JNPR along the way. It seems to be implied that 2 of the characters here are going to have major arcs, aside from rwby herself. That being Jaunne and Neo. Neo being shown multiple times to fade into the sillhoutte of alex in the opening theme. I get the feeling she will also let go of her past with this finally and ascend, becoming the original alex. Or we find out that alex ascended into Neo herself. And she will have to learn her lesson all over again (the former being more likely due to writing the book to begin with)... This would give us a main character "death" finally as well as a way for Neo to switch sides without just becoming friends and joining the team in a predictable shonen anime way.

Since time passes so differently in the Ever After, I really hope it's something similar to the Room of Spirit and Time depending on each persons arrival. Like since Jaune fell last but arrived first the 10-15 years he maybe spent only equates to 10-15 days in Remnant's time etc. Like it's already painfully obvious Team RWBY is too weak to fight Salem as they are.

The big question I keep asking is: DOES the passage of time ALWAYS translate to forward progression in Remnant? Just as Jean fell into the past of the Ever After, what if when team RWBY returns to Remnant they actually return around the time of or even slightly before the fall of Atlas? It's already been proven that time does not align properly in one direction. Who's to say that it should align in reverse? I think that it's a highly interesting possibility that the time at which they return to Remnant could be subject to change along the timeline.

Ok, so crazy theory time. I have no proof behind this claim, just a few coincidences that match up. If Jaune was the Rusted Knight from the fairy tale (I do believe this to be true) then it might tie up an old Vol 4 loose end. I think that Tyrian has been to the Ever After, and that is the cause of his madness. In Vol 4 when Tyrian fought against JNPR he started going onto one of his crazy rants about his dedication to Salem and how Ruby was much more important that the others, but then turns to Jaune and claims that he "Seemed interesting". If Tyrian was trapped in the Ever After and came across Jaune as the Rusted Knight, it means that Tyrian and Jaune met far before the evens of Vol 4 and that this might wrap up that bit of a loophole. Again, just a crazy theory, but it was fun to think it up.

Ok I can’t be the only one who thinks Juane isn’t that old. Here is my theory: I do believe he has been there for several years like 5-6. I believe he is not the OG rusted knight but encountered him after Juane fell. The knight was probably at the end of his life (meaning he already fulfilled his purpose) and decided to hand off his title to Juane. Would explain why he has the armor but still has his sword and his memories. Honestly Juane just looks worn out, like he’s been through it( which he has).

Hmm maybe but there are white streaks in his hair though. I doubt the animators would have added white to his hair if he was only supposed to be 25. He may not be 50 but he's definitely older than his 20s. Plus I don't think the Rusted Knight is an actual title to be handed down, it's just what he's known by due to his appearance. We'll have to wait and see for both though and hopefully next episode will give us more insight!

First off I’m not much of a Jaune fan but MAD RESPECT to him for staying in the Ever After for his friend and possibly not fucking with the timeline. I was wondering why have Jaune come to the Ever After and why have Alyx showing up in the opening so much if she isn’t going to be meeting and helping Team RWBY but NOW IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!! I can’t wait to see this flash back but there is something everyone is forgetting. Old man Jaune, the rusted knight, is going to be the one to tell Ruby he killed Penny. He has spent decades thinking about how he is going to tell his friends that risked everything to save their friend that he ended her life at his request. I mean at this point if you told me your phisical age is how old you feel or act in the ever after Id believe it as nothing makes sense in this fairy tail nock off of an already fairy tail based story. and as a side note stuck in time is an interesting analogy. maybe jaune has ascended in a sense. in that the ever after seeing his broken hurt jaded soul gave him the appearance of the old man we see, after all it's known that while memories usually get erased or at least changed when a role changes or something in assentation we do know that those who have not ascended or yet to because they haven't gotten to that point yet look the same. that is becuase the ever after has no roll for them to fill in it's story. so maybe it gave jaune a role that made him look as old as season one oz pin. and juane being the rusted knight could you imagine a flashback of jaune reading that book. my goodness. also through out this entire story this whole thing was giving me a headache, at first, at last, here, there, before, after nothing about time or spacal awareness makes any freaking sense. and on that note depending on how the ever after works there is literaly no telling how long jaune has been there. also jaune named his rabbit after his team, and possibly his mother if that rumor is true which I thought was a nice touch. and also imagine Nora's reaction to seeing a giant grimm sized animal that she can actually ride that won't try to kill her or that she will need to kill. lastly in a way of poetic irony jaune became a hero greater then any other, even oz'pins various incarnations. history fades, as do memories and accounts of true deeds. but fantasy tends to last longer. Jaune is no general, no hero of old, or a war veteran (yet). but he is a story now the rusted knight who inspired millions of children to be better people over centuries. in the words of the song legends never die, history and people may but he is a story that made countless people want to become champions, and those children became hero's who in tern inspired hero's of there own who would likly further be told of the rusted knight. so in a round about way jaune became the greatest hero on remeant, the very thing he wanted most. my love for rwby is reborn in one half minute long reveal.

Well here is an interesting thought: what if it was one of Ozma’s incarnations that wrote the story so that is why he let Jaune into Beacon in Volume 1? There is likely 2 things that will happen here: (1)in the next episode we might get Ruby finally going at him about Penny, and (2) when it comes time to leave they might have to convince him to come back because in his mind in the Ever After he is the hero he always wanted to be and back in Remnant he thinks he was just “the lovable goof stuck in the tree”.
