The reflector mirror at first seemed to peel off, and then you just polished it? About the explosion, it is not clear what happened and how it was eliminated?

There was a damaged mirror film on the reflector. I have removed it and polished the metal reflector itself. Explosion - it was a short circuit to the case. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and everything worked out. I insulated the wire to avoid this.

@@Archiemonty As far as I understood, this lantern has two optical systems - signal and lighting. It was used by railway workers who, in the dark, gave railway light signals and inspected the trains.

These rocker switches appears to be radioluminescent (painted with radium226, which is radioactive + zinc sulphide, which is luminescent). After many decades, the zinc sulphide is almost entirely wear out but the radioactivity remains. I suggest a quick check using a geiger counter. BTW, even if the zinc sulphide is almost gone, it should be able to glow under UV light. If the switches glow under UV light (money check light is just fine), is almost certainly a radioactive paint.
