Isaiah 34:14 makes a reference to a Hebrew word "Lilith" that has been the subject of some considerable speculation. How are we to understand this term? To what does it actually refer?

Thanks for this. When looking this up, I noticed that the Lilith story didn’t appear until about 500+ years after the apostolic age rendering this entire story as a fabrication. I did find it interesting that in the Latin Vulgate the word Jerome uses is Lamia which took me down a little bit of a rabbit trail making connections to the Greek equivalent (Athena) which also has its connections Diana (Roman) which has its connections to Anat (Canaanite), Neith (Egyptian) and Brigantia (Celtic) which some have (not all) affiliations with owls. In conclusion, it seems that when the Israelites were under the boot of Egypt, Greece and Rome they may have adopted these stories into their folklore and later people linked this folklore to this Hebrew word Lilith and built an entire story around it. Just my thoughts.

Lilith, the 1st wife of Adam. Unlike Eve, is 2nd woman who was made of Adam by his rib & therefore Eve was subordinate to him. Whereas Lilith his 1st woman was equal to him, being created from the earth just as he was. Lilith was Adams 1st wife.

what is the most accurate translation ? NIV , KJV or ells ?
@DrJohnStevenson
@DrJohnStevenson 2 ай бұрын
It depends upon the passage. There are a lot of places, especially in the Old Testament, where the KJV does a great job. On the other hand, the newer translations benefit from a better knowledge of the ancient languages thanks to archaeological discoveries as well as a great many more manuscripts. I continue to teach from the NAS 1995 edition, though I have a copy of the Legacy Standard Version that just came out a couple of years ago; it shows a lot of promise.

No, I don't think it is necessary for Christians to read all of those things. On the other hand, I teach a class at the college titled Backgrounds to the New Testament where I do teach on these things. The videos for that class (I teach it both on campus as well as online) are in my video collection. As to your question about the canon, I would point out that, when Jesus came, most of the Jews had already come to a conclusion as to which books were canonical versus those that were not. The Protestant Bible is aligned with their conclusions. Here is a quote from Josephus explaining the rationale of that view: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3rVg4WGib-ep8ksi=vn-yWe2gUB7xhsKG&t=612

I've started reading the oldest known text of the old testament as I believe it makes more sense and will be less tainted by political views or monarchy. It is in hebrew and directly translated to english so very little lost in translation. The Bible does say God created Man and Woman from dirt on the same day, then a few verses later God makes Eve from Adam. A lot of texts removed from the Bible and in the bible lead us to believe that is where the wives of Cain came from. I feel that saying it was adam and eve doesn't make sense as there is never any explanation as to where other people came from.

The oldest known complete text of the Old Testament would be the Leningrad Codex and it is basically the same as any English translation on the market today. That means you have likely been reading someone's con job, for that text says nothing of what you describe.

I think it’s a easy as someone from the intellectual western world to look down on stories of demons as kind of unenlightened, but I tell you we are starting to see a lot more of these demons as the days turns darker which is making me listen with a more sincere ear to what the medieval church said. Your thoughts? Have you ever cast out a demon?

What he did here is conformation of what I have often said, i.e. Lilith is a Jewish construct. He focused only on the word לילית, but if we determine what is the subject of these verses, we can see more clearly what is happening."6 The sword of YHWH is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams; for YHWH hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom." The "her" in the following verses is referring to the land of Edom, such as: "12 As for her nobles, none shall be there to be called to the kingdom; and all her princes shall be nothing." I think the verse 14 means that Edom will be comforted nightly and at night will find rest. This makes sense to me because Edom ended up being part of the Judean kingdom; this is where Herod came from. They accepted Judaism: "16 Seek ye out of the book of YHWH, and read; no one of these shall be missing, none shall want her mate; for My mouth it hath commanded, and the breath thereof it hath gathered them."

They merely happen; you did not need something additional to bring them about. Incidentally, these sorts of emissions are mentioned in the Bible. "Now if a man has a seminal emission, he shall bathe all his body in water and be unclean until evening. 'As for any garment or any leather on which there is seminal emission, it shall be washed with water and be unclean until evening." (Leviticus 15:16-17). "If there is among you any man who is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, then he must go outside the camp; he may not reenter the camp. But it shall be when evening approaches, he shall bathe himself with water, and at sundown he may reenter the camp. 12 "You shall also have a place outside the camp and go out there, and you shall have a spade among your tools, and it shall be when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and shall turn to cover up your excrement." (Deuteronomy 23:10-13).

I really don't understand Genesis 1 vrs 27. Especially The words "created them" and "Male and Female." This makes sense to me.

How about you just read the context of Isaiah 34:1-17? It's the day of the Lord and its a bloody war against what appears to be nocturnal dessert animals, that include Ravens, other birds, unicorns, satyrs (torso of a man and lower body of a hooved beast) and dragons. Anyone with more than 5 pages worth bible knowledge can tell you that all those animals and beasts are demonic princes and devils. The more interesting thing is, that in verse 15, it says "There shall the great owl make her nest....". It's not talking about some special bird. God used this terminology in Revelation 12 with the "the great dragon" in verse 3, and "great red dragon" in verse 9. "The Great owl" may very well be alluding to a demonic queen/princess, which could infact be lilith.
@DrJohnStevenson

@@DrJohnStevenson okay then, so if this passage is to be taken literally, then we must also take the unicorn, dragon, and satyr as literal creatures too. If this is the case then this still doesn't dispute but rather makes the case for these creatures being demonic princes being spoken of. Google a satyr if you don't know what it looks like. It is not an animal. The KJV mentions in verse 14 a satyr. Strong's Concordance shows up what the original Hebrew word used in verse 14 is, which is "sa'iyr". "Satyr" is the correct translation, whereas bibles like the niv get it wrong by putting wild goat and hyena in the passage. 8163. sa'iyr ► Strong's Exhaustive Concordance devil, goat, hairy, kid, rough, satyr Or sabir {saw-eer'}; from sa'ar; shaggy; as noun, a he-goat; by analogy, a faun -- devil, goat, hairy, kid, rough, satyr.

This is wrong. If chapter 2 was about how God created everything then it's backwards and does not line up with the 6 days of creation. Adam and eve were not the first two. If God created Adam and then the animals for him to name then 6th day creation in chapter one is lying. Chapter two claims eve was made after Adam, after the garden(which is also contradictory to chapter one because the earth was made first) and after the animals. But Gen 1:27 says God made them both at the same time. No, I do not think the Bible contradicts itself, we've just been taught wrong for a very long time. If Adam and eve were the first, where did Cain and Seth find wives? Why did Cain tell God that people will kill him if they see him and know what he did? Can we please stop with the fairy tale? Humanity was created, and all knowing God knew eventually they would all be destroyed in the flood. That's why Adam and eve were created with God's spirit(breath) as a special blood line so that Yeshua would be able to come down.

Also saving people from Hell, that's why she is considered a queen of demons. You have to understand that everyone including demons, who are willing to repent and get together with God can have a chance to do so. We have to have a system that's in service to fallen one's. Demons don't have s sexual expression, because they lost the ability to have a body, so they possess us. Also God's children who entered the "right" side of the tree of life, can safely experience multiple lives, without ever being in any contact with the adversary, the Devil. Those who entered through the left side of the tree of life are in direct service and connection to Satan, but as always in service to the Most High. The middle one, the least taken path is very heavy, not many go through there, its called "the Elevator" but you are actually using "the stairs", slow motion, life by life, you can get stuck in it badly, experience downfall's of immense power, heavily guided by both sides of the Spirit realms.

Nice try but you can clearly see that genesis chapter one and Genesis chapter 2 totally describe different ways man was created We should not try to make the Bible fit a believe system . Science has the answer. It is clear that human remains predate Adam by millions of years. Adam clearly was not the first man created(4 distinct humanoids have been found ) . The creation of man in genesis refers to a different man that predates Adam. CHRISTIANS simply need to admit they were wrong about genesis by admitting the truth you can begin to dispell the Lillith legend(myth)
