I'm going to say Old, but like 2012-15 Yu-Gi-Oh. I believe it was literally a mid compromised point between the slow pace and the current 2-3 turn duels structure. You had enough creativity to make a board, while still allowing a bit of a back and forward between players. Obviously Pendulum killed that point personally, but the pacing was still faster with its process than how an early YGO duel go, without taking overly long turns

Personally, much bigger fan of the old grindier, more resource based version of YuGiOh. The kind where it was about beating out your opponents resources, or biding time until you get the out. Whereas modern YuGiOh feels like just following a combo spreadsheet to your end board that's unbreakable or OTKs them.
@sobbles62422 жыл бұрын
the spread sheat is the resource management, but now its all the resources you have acces to in deck and extra deck and not just in hand. old yugioh was just sacky and new is just more consistant.
@TheJamieellis2 жыл бұрын
@@sobbles6242 But new yugioh literally boils down to a function. "I do full combo, do you have the out? no? I win, GG, next game" That's so horrendously boring because with decks like Swordsoul, it's the same combo over and over. There's no innovation, the deck plays itself etc.
@sobbles62422 жыл бұрын
@@TheJamieellis where is the inovation in old yugioh, its just a game of who can get to their bost monster the fastest. and it was like that for YEARS also no its not a function cus you can interupt with HT your opponent or be like tearlament. and most boards are breakable, playing through a negate and a banish is not hard unless you play garbage.
@TheJamieellis2 жыл бұрын
@@sobbles6242 The innovation was coming up with ways to survive multiple turns, setting up your plays until you had a pop-off turn to try and flip things in your favour, or slowly grinding things out, deciding which resources to spend, how badly do you want to commit to things etc Yes, the function is "I do my reliable, one card combo. Do you have an out? Yes? I counter it. Can you counter my counter? You can? I counter your counter. Anymore? No? I win. GG. Go next" to that effect. And because things are so unbelievably fast now, it's not like old YuGiOh where one bad turn wasn't the end of the duel. But nowadays? If you can't counter the enemies board AND pull off your combo? You just lose.
@sobbles62422 жыл бұрын
@@TheJamieellis the inovation now is still there, instead of it being in game, its in deckbuilding. if i play this card this will let me better counter this card but i dont do much against other cards. also countering stuff is just as hard as it is in goat format, if you dont draw the card that wins the game your dead. old yugioh is also a function, its just more drawn out and way more sacky. end a bad turn in new yugioh doesnt really exist if you play the meta decks because they are increadably consistent and good at playing through stuff exemple being spright or tear. its not do i have a counter its how do i counter the board which most time doesnt put up alot of interuptions.

Have to say, aside from the trite statements that has been said already, I love the use of the Extra Deck, so I only really started liking Yu-Gi-Oh as a game to play when Synchro came about, because I absolutely hated that the Fusion deck was useless, unless it was cheated out via Magical Scientist, Metamorphosis, Instant Fusion, etc making 1/4th of the game that I really liked useless. During the GX era, I forced my deck to be able to fuse with Jaden's cards, but they're so useless cause not only the Fusion method is bad, but the monsters you get out of them dies to a single interaction, making them not worth the use, so the Hero variant used was Diamond Dude turbo. Hell, I really like the other cards coloring so much, I also played a ritual focused deck. So yeah, it was the Synchro era, especially the later days of it, that made me love Yu-Gi-Oh. I was playing a Dark Warrior Synchro spam back then.

@@Honest_Mids_Masher Edison is probably the biggest alt format other than GOAT currently on available. It’s based on the last SJC (Shounen Jump Championship) ever, which took place on April 24-25, 2010. Probably not the most well liked opinion around here, but I'm actually team new Yu-Gi-Oh! People tend to forget that the meta back then was toxic too, and just remember the fun they had with janky decks from their childhood. Yes, the meta is terrible right now, but there are so many fun decks with cool combos and synergies, and you can actually come back from things, instead of having to rely on one draw at a time to bail you out. The argument is always that old Yu-Gi-Oh! had better back and forth, but I feel like the combos nowadays are actually what enable it. When you get shut out in Goat format, you're done, if you don't draw on some Yugi type level. Also what's up with the stray bullets at Deion ^^
@TheDevilDeVille2 жыл бұрын
This, 100% Most people who say 'Old Yugioh' only ever played casually. They didn't experience the frustrations of consistent FTKs with no real ways to interact with them. The dumb 'you cant play' locks that could be splashed into any meta deck. The ridiculous amount of games that were decided by who flipped a floodgate and stuck a big guy first. They played casually with friends and enjoyed long grindy back and forths because neither player was playing the most broken decks, abusable, or unfair decks. They were just playing the cards they owned in whatever mishmash they wanted. Now they log into master duel and get a taste of the modern version of the unfair bullshit that has ALWAYS been in yugioh and assume it's something new and didn't exist back when they played.

Sure, I do have some frustrations playing the game, but at the same time it's more relaxing & fun, then newer Yu-Gi-Oh rules & cards. I did try playing Yu-Gi-Oh in Duel Links, but there are so many confusing new card effects for Yu-Gi-Oh cards, that I just couldn't get into it. I honestly stopped caring about Yu-Gi-Oh after GX TV series, but in recent years I just got back into it out of nostalgia sake. I even own the entire DVD collection of the original Yu-Gi-Oh anime. Yeah the Dub is cheesy, but it's not the worst dubbing in the world either. As for the card game itself, I just play older video games with older rules. I do have a physical Yu-Gi-Oh deck as well, but I haven't used it in years, since some cards were bought from Germany & I can't read any of them, while other cards are from the old Structure Deck I bought in 2004 that are English.
