I like Oliver Stone because he can form his own ideas in spite of American cliches. That being said, I also think that sometimes he "fall in love" with the leaders he interviews. Putin is certainly a charismatic and complex person, and these interviews showed that he has strong values and he's not the "monster" that western media try to create. I liked the guy more than what I expected, I have to admit that. At the same time, during those interviews he managed to not answer some of the most uncomfortable questions that Stone made (like the ones about the transparency on his wealth, for example) and he tended to minimize certain relevant problems linked to the policies of his government (like freedom of speech, gay rights, NSA-style interceptions, etc ). Obviously he was eager to "sell" a certain image of himself: brilliant, calm, open-minded, value-oriented, inclusive, wise (although I think that despite this image he tried to build up, we saw the man behind the Russian President quite a lot here). Thinking that in those 20 hours he was always 100% genuine and he never stretched/omitted facts would be naive. But again, was he that different from western politicians in doing that? I don't think so.
@kristinahavranova96162 жыл бұрын
Feel the same buddy ✌🏻 despite current problems, Greetings from Europe
@billycroacker2 жыл бұрын
@@kristinahavranova9616 I think that it's hard to be objective nowadays, but in the end we should look at facts. Russia people have its own way to look at things, and western people struggle understanding that. Putin has put up an authoritarian regime, whatever you want to call it, but he could do that because Russians can live with a different system than democracy. Different countries have different cultures and visions. Putin is not a monster, he's a chief of government who takes care of his country's interests. He also have flaws, and he's not indifferent to the dark side of power, no matter what he thinks/says. He did regrettable things in the past, and good things too. He has good reasons to do certain things, and he took decisions that were probably driven only by his own ambitions. He's probably rich in a way that legal and moral/value-driven ways wouldn't have allowed him. He loves Russia, but his personal vision could take directions that collide with Russians' interests. Is a human being in a position of power. A brilliant person with his own personal dark sides. So I just think that it's important for people to stop thinking in terms of "good guys and bad guys". People are bad AND good at the same time, and no matter whether they live in the west or in Russia. Western countries have disgusting politicians who would sell their mothers for a gram of power. The "only problem" with Putin is probably that his government lacks the emergency brakes in case he stops thinking clearly (not saying that this is the case, but it's a problem anyways). So yeah, those were just my 2 cents. Btw, I'm Italian.

Most recently there was a lot of talk about the Ukraine- Russian "war" during the World Economic Forum in Davos. Russia was not invited. Therefore at Davos Russia was an easy target. Iraq in 2003. America and Nato did half a job in 1991. They have to go in 2003 to finish the job. Trouble broke out in Ukraine in 2014. Obama was president then. Trump becomes president in 2016. No war in Ukraine during his time. Biden became president in 2021. War in Ukraine in 2022. 4.2 million people have become refugees. All due to the clumsy foreign policy of America. Way back in the 1970s Senator Mansfield wanted to withdraw American troops from Germany. He wanted Europe to work on the European Security Treaty. Sen. Mansfield had the vision but unfortunately he was in the minority and was defeated in the Senate. Freedom.is an overated word. Food on the table and a roof is freedom for many people like in Cuba. America has imposed santions on Cuba since the revolution in 1959. Thats is a form of terrorism. It is financial terrorism on the part of America. Who can educate America. It is people like Oliver Stone and Michael Moore. What has been the Council of Foreign Relations doing all this while?

Oliver stone is a brilliant filmmaker and Vietnam Vet, and I don't question his honesty AT ALL. It's important to remember, however, that for 16 years at least, Putin was a KGB officer who worked for Boris Yeltsin. So, I'd take Putin's honesty with a grain of salt. I'm not sure what the baseline of honest feedback is for Ex-KGB officers, but it's not likely to be high.
