The intervention ended that Civil War, and caused 72 civilian deaths. They didn't land troops, they just send 260 aircrafts and 20 ships. Ukraine was invaded by 100 thousands of Russian troops, and already caused tens of thousands of civilian deaths, all because of Putins irredentist views. He falsely claimed Ukraine was governed by neo-Nazis in an attempt to justify his invasion. The Russians have been accused of crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court. Meanwhile in Russia, you can't even say 'invasion' publicly without being arrested. I would say Putin is the more aggresive one compared to Obama huh?

I've watched all 4 parts of the Oliver Stone and Putin interviews on Showtime. Oliver Stone did a fantastic job. The man was not there to chastize Putin for all the wrong he has done. Oliver Stone is a film maker, not a policeman. His mission was to present Putin as a person to us on a silver platter and for us to judge, that's it. What Colbert and his extremist audience are doing is judging a book by its cover.

Watched the first hour, Stone seemed like he's trying to walk a fine line to keep Putin talking the whole time. He offers him a chance to give his version of the story. I found it very interesting. You can tell that Stone was probably burned out by trying to promote his documentary on these talk shows that have been either trying to push their agenda or catch him slipping so that he can be labeled as an Putin apologist. I don't understand how people are going to expect this guy to denounce or speak bad about Putin. He was just trying to see if he could find out the Russian version of these global issues.

I never listen to the media. A friend of mine's dad is an airline pilot..... was hijacked back in the 1980s . The story was on the news and he said that his dad was watching it and his comment was," I didn't know that there was another airline that was hijacked" . The news had it so contorted he didn't even recognize the news story as being his own plane . He really thought it was another story

I watched this and thought of JFK's Peace Speech I may not be a big fan of Putin but here you have a bunch of Americans laughing at the idea that Putin is a victim, yet has this very audience looked at its own country's values in regards to war and terror. JFK said "Some say that it is useless to speak of world peace or world law or world disarmament-and that it will be useless until the leaders of the Soviet Union adopt a more enlightened attitude. I hope they do. I believe we can help them do it. But I also believe that we must reexamine our own attitude--as individuals and as a Nation--for our attitude is as essential as theirs. And every graduate of this school, every thoughtful citizen who despairs of war and wishes to bring peace, should begin by looking inward--by examining his own attitude toward the possibilities of peace, toward the Soviet Union, toward the course of the cold war and toward freedom and peace here at home."

I don't even dare to judge his ethics, it's too easy to be nice, when you're not the one in charge, the one who has to live with the bargain of his own decisions. Interviewing the leader of a country and making a film about it is not propaganda. No one is saying that (at least Colbert certainly isn't). But interviewing the leader of a country who has a history of human rights abuses, suppression of democracy and freedom of the press etc *without* challenging him much or pressing him on some of these issues and past behaviors does make it seem like it's just an opportunity for Putin to portray himself as a sympathetic character without being challenged very much. I'm sure Oliver Stone had no intention of making a biased film (either positive or negative) about Putin, but if he found him so likeable and respects the guy it seems he's unable to see some of the darker aspects of this man's leadership style and call him out on it.

This being even more evident with the odd groans from the audience that played out. I have to say that this interview seemed more like the old Colbert from Comedy Central; the interview is how I would see Bill O'Reilly giving it. I find it interesting when people with a little more nuanced understanding of the US role in the world get this kind of reaction, even when it comes from liberal standpoints, such as Chomsky or Oliver Stone, in this case. It was funny when Trump answered "what, do you think we are so innocent?" when answering to Bill O'Reilly's accusations on Putin. As a 'liberal' myself, I was with Trump on that one. Maybe the only time. Doesn't make you think that when public figures, technically opposing to each other, (such as Colbert and O'Reilly) agree on this Manichaeism, on this definite, devilish enemy, something is wrong? There are really the good and the bad, and that's it? Putin is no saint by any means.. but then again, what is Saudi Arabia? It's a bit strange to see the US public behave in this way - but there's been an uninterrupted decline in quality of education and public information over the decades, especially after the USSR demise. In a way - the way the US public is responding to a civil and demanding discourse about the complex and sophisticated current affairs is a stark reminder of the USSR public "reactions" to the same thing during the heights of the USSR. I have many times enjoyed the humor of Stephen Colbert on current political situations. However, Oliver Stone, in my belief, is a really serious, dedicated, investigative reporter of politics, and history. I think he tries to clearly represent his findings, and does not ride the current political reporting of those who are on the popular main stream media ride. He should be respected, and if he seems to not be supportive or commenting on a current political wave, it's because he is trying to stay true to his fact based, and unbiased reporting. I have read that in this interview, Oliver Stone had stated that Russian interference in U.S. Politics does not even come close to Israel interference. However that portion of the interview was edited out of the program. Oliver Stone is not the only one who has mentioned Israeli interference. Such notable persons such as Professor Noam Chomsky, and reporter Helen Thomas have also mentioned this.

Oliver Stone is by all accounts a professional. There was a time where journalists and documentarists could just be objective even with the worst of people. Not having an opinion is a dead art and it needs to be brought back.

Oliver is suposed to ask interesting questions. There is nothing objective about helping a murderer to spread Lies. A lot of people believe Putin is a murderer, even if Oliver doesn't personally believe it's true. The allegations are at least news worthy.

Even though Stephen Colbert has turned into a shameful parody of himself, a parrot for the MSM narrative and a poor excuse for a comedian, he does have a point about Oliver Stone being too cozy with Putin and too friendly when he talks about him. Politeness is important yes, but Stone talks about Putin like he's an actual personal friend that he cares about, even noting before that he was worried about Putin's health since he works such long days. To be honest that is nonsense. I'm not saying be adversarial, but at least treat him as a professional and not as a personal friend/acquaintance. I do like the questions Stone gave, he got some very interesting answers out of Putin, but I don't see why it's necessarily to talk about the leader of any country like they're a friend.

the craziest part of this whole interview is that Colbert, who gained relevancy from being an intelligence satirist, seriously thought he could trick Oliver Stone, who's made iconic films about the deceptive media, into a "mainstream headline" answer

It is the first time that I've seen this interview, and before I do an in-depth research on the movie and Mr. Oliver, I'd like to say that I found him to be astute and considerate of his words and posture. I don't think people realise that being considerate and respect is something we all should have towards one another (even when disagreeing), more so when speaking with the head of a country! Now, I admit that personally, I would find it hard to keep such a calm demeanour as Mr Oliver did if I were to interview Mr. Trump, simply because of the image he displays (way of expression, body language, blatant disregard and disrespect even for those against his points of view), notwithstanding his policies and/or actions. However, when the parties share a mutual professional demeanour, it becomes a whole different ballgame, which I think was the case of Mr. Oliver interviewing Putin, as he said: "he respected me and he respected my work". It's not sugarcoating, or being a sell-out, it simply shows you are an educated person with good manners. (Please don't use pitchforks when coming after me)

Colbert frames the conversation as a search for truth, loads his questions as much as possible (as to make Stone waste time unraveling BS first), and uses the audience against Stone. He kay as well be a living parody of the host in Hunger Games. Always gotta keep the fragile illusion flowing forward.

There is no cure for solace that people find in their ignorance. The sheer disrespect from the host and the audience towards Oliver stone for holding a different opinion is absolutely pathetic. Colbert really thought of him to be like any other Hollywood celebrity who would jump on the bandwagon of "anti Trump/Putin" along with him. You can clearly see how annoyed Oliver stone was.

It's not CNN's conjecture, but our intelligence agencies' assessment. While I'm always skeptical of intelligence services, the actual nature of Putin is widely confirmed. We know this guy has ordered murders. We know this guy supports oppressive laws against gays and dissidents. I really don't understand how Americans became so comfortable with autocracy. What the hell happened to the country?
