Oliver 82 Mower Post Season Maintenance

Wanted to fix a couple things before I took the mower off the tractor since its kind of a boat anchor when its not hooked up.

Ethan, I'm racking my brain trying to remember how dad changed the pitman arm when I was a kid, one thing I can guarantee that Dad had some choice words to say 😉. The best I can recall I think he jammed those cones on. Thanks Michael

Recently I watched an Essential Craftsman video in this particular instance about fitting and keeping hammer handles tight. In this video he soaked the end of the handle in 50 percent antifreeze. The thought came to me that could help your pitman arm being not too dry and possibly last longer

Been a minute since I heard the term chinese fire drill. Fix it before putting it away is always the best plan.

Ethan we used to use a crowbar to slide our cycles in and out. Turn curved end down and put against a rivet push and they slide right in

Ought to be good to go with the rebuilt pitman and new sections. Bolt-on sections make life a lot easier compared to riveting...especially out in the field. Always rewarding to see old implements given some TLC and put back to work!!!

Hi Etham ,greetings from Ireland . We used a nice piece of larch from a local joinery, it would be last about 10 years .or until we hit something . Tha was for our Steyr midmounted finger bar mower bought new in the mid 60s

If for whatever reason it happened again, a guy could try putting a glue of sorts between the steel and wood before bolting it together

I had made a pitman arm for my sickle out of some square tubing two pieces one slid inside the other one and put a sheer bolt is is so if I hit Any thang it gust pop the shear bolt in stead of braking the wood and that’s manly because I keep picking up new ground and keep finding thang in the filds first time mowing them and I gat tired of making new sticks all the time and tired of still finding crap in the fild after walking them thank god I don’t have to worry about it so much anymore sins I’ve re done the filds

I know cameras play tricks with the eyes once in a while but does that stick have a slight bow to it or is it straight? Cant believe it have a bow to it. Have a good one
