It's become a hybrid! Possibly even better than the original idea. You could make a whole range of these..

Agreed. It's a unique and beautiful piece that never would have come to be without that "accident." It's a good reminder that mishaps aren't necessarily disasters - they present opportunities to break out your ingenuity and craftsmanship.

Great 'save' with the vase! I am a knitter. When there is that kind of mess up in the project, I call it a design feature. Also, my grandfather had a woodworking shop in the basement and I spent many quality hours either watching or helping. Every time I watch you work I am brought back to the smells, sights and sounds of Grampy working on something. Thank you!

WOW! The finished piece is even cooler than the original - serendipity!! Thank you for allowing us to see that even professionals still make mistakes. 😊

Do it again . . . DO IT AGAIN ! Mr. Olivier, this is fantastic. One Of A Kind. There was an American painter that would teach on Public Broadcast TV, named Bob Ross. He would always say "We don't make mistakes -- we just have happy accidents." No doubt, an accident can cost an artist time and money. However, in the USMC, we learned to overcome, adapt, and improvise. That's exactly what you did. If I could afford even one of your pieces, right now - I would want this one. Well Done. It's beautiful.

I like it as much if not more than the original. You must see in 3D in your head like most of us don't because when you pulled out the piece of ash and started turning it I couldn't figure out where you were going until it became obvious. Really excellent.

Can you only think in 2d?? Oliver is very skilled but I dont think being able to imagine a 3d object is exactly rare or impressive by itself

Hi Oliver, OMGOSH WOW, I am sad for you that your project got broken, but what you did with that wood log, is just astonishing. It turned out looking equally as beautiful as the first one you did (off camera). Thank you so much for sharing this video with us, as always you worked wonders xx

It is very nice. I think I like it better with that plain wood at the bottom. Well saved!!!! 👍

Now here's a real professional artist. Not only do you fix something into a beautiful piece of art, but you show everyone that even you make mistakes. Complete respect for you. I wish I had 100th the creativity that you have. There's no way I would even know where to start. I'd kill a piece of wood just trying to start. Had enough trouble in wood and metal shop in the 7th grade. And the teacher is the one that did all the hard work.

This is a great reminder that while woodworking videos are relaxing to watch, from the craftsman's standpoint the process can be anything but. The end result was gorgeous either way, it's very unique.

It’s ok to be frustrated and to take those frustrations out on an inanimate object. That’s actually a healthy thing to do. Going further and acting against people and animals isn’t good. On occasion in the past, I’ve done exactly what you did when something goes wrong. It’s a good release of anger. As for your wood turning, it turned out to be a great save and creative way to salvage something once thought lost. I think we all learned something from you on how we can salvage a wood turning when things go wrong. I like the way you used a natural edge bowl and shaped the segmented bowl to its shape. That was pretty slick thinking and wonderful creativeness!!! Great job, Oliver!!!!👍👍👍

I can't explain why I find watching these videos so soothing....but I do. It's the perfect mix of watching you woodturn with glimpse of your personality. Also crazy jealous of how your mind can see what you want and "turn" it into reality. 😉👍...your talent is the videos and beautiful items you make...mine is stupid puns. I feel like you got the better end of the deal, but I'm ok with it. 😁

Not a possibility it is a great save and a better idea. As a painter said one time. You don't make mistake. You make happy little accidents happen. This has great accent and character. Something that was meant to look like it is a great piece of artwork, as well as a functional piece. Who can ask anymore, that's because something don't go right doesn't mean you give up. So stay strong and believe in yourself. You just keep have happy little accidents. And if you were to keep it to yourself the only one that's going to know is you. Why everybody's doing admiring your work. No never know that it didn't start out that way but it ended in a great piece of work. Thank you for showing just that.

Simply elegant - and the repair appears like a special design. Somehow it's reassuring that mishaps occur to you, too, Ms. Gomis - I already started to think you were such a master of wood turning and especially design that you turned into something 'perfect' - but that would have killed the spark of living art. ;-)
