This is the biggest surprise in men’s throws in the history of the sport. And he didn’t win because everybody else was having an off day. That 70m throw is the most incredible throw I have ever seen.

What is remarkable es the regularity of Alekna. 4 throws over 68. Increíble , specially for a young thrower. 99% of times he had won the contest, but this time he was a little unluck, and the jamaican lucky, because the average of this throws was about 65. So, 99 times over 100 Alekna would have won, I think

And by this logic, Denny wins a few times too. He's the only guy with 2 over 69...

Watched Matthew Deny throw 64+ several months ago but he seemed a bit stiff from injury I suspect. I was a 48m PB thrower but primarily a decathlete. Delighted by his entrance to top level world class. I came 2nd to Werner Reiterer in Under 20's states in around 1984. That guy was another freak, throwing 63+ at around 21yo with a pretty slim frame.

Werner 65m at 19. Would have been a world junior record but it wasn't ratified. Super talent, went dark side and was a rare athlete is acknowledging it.

@@strengthmadesimpler Thanks for clarification. I think he was 17 when he smashed me in the U/20 State Title by about 13 meters. :)

The NFL will be hard to resist when even top performers in the Diamond League have a hard time making a decent living without a sponsor.

I think your point system would benefit if you awarded a half point if one of your picks got a medal but not the one you predicted.

Bruh, 70m in a stadium at the Olympic Games in way more impressive than 74.4 in a random outdoor throws only meet with massive gusts of wind.
