Great video! You said when you have luminous hands, the dial should have luminous paint, but I don't know if that is a must... I have a 1960 Seamaster, completely original, with a 14743 case (the same as the one on the photo of the Omega archives for that case), the have have luminous paint, but the hour markers do not! Best regards
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! CK 14743 is a Pre-Seamaster Deville or Seamaster Deville depending on the year it was made. 1960 version would just say Seamaster while the 1962 version will say Seamaster Deville. It is common that the hour luminous have been removed in the past. Sometime by request from the owner or mistakenly removed by the watch maker. It could also be a very good redial. Many dealers who sell vintage Omega may not be able to tell a redial apart. So do be aware of that as well. Last but not least, I have seen factory original dial replacement from service or previous owner decided to swap dial because of damage or just want something different. But the fact is, luminous hands = luminous hour indexes.

Hello, there. Very helpful vodeo! About the two watches at 6:15-7:30, De ville should never bee above Seamaster on the dial but Geneve can be above Seamaster? Because on all the pics i have seen Seamaster is always above Geneve. Also the words " swiss made" i guess is a must at the bottom of the dial for all omega watches? Thank you 💖

I haven't spotted any discussion of vintage Omega watch crowns on your site. It seems most manual wind Omegas use a crown with multiple, regularly spaced grooves and many, but not all automatics use the style of crown with just 4 lobes (please excuse if I'm using incorrect terminology here). I'm curious to know if there's a rhyme or reason behind Omega's choice of crowns for their older models?
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, basically, for all manual wind watches in general regardless of the brand, the crown is designed in a matter for easy winding. Adding those lines/grooves/knurls or whatever you call it is for easy grip and hold. For an automatic watch on the hand, you really do not need these knurls on the crown since the watch will self wind as you move your wrist throughout the day.
@davebacks6437
@davebacks6437 4 жыл бұрын
@@TimelessHistoryChannel So, if you find a vintage Omega manual wind watch with just the 4 lobes on the crown instead of multiple lines/grooves would that be an indication the watch is NOT original?
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Finding a watch with the incorrect crown does not make the watch NOT original. Replacing a crown on the watch is like replacing the rim on a car. It will not affect the value or authenticity of the watch. Worry and focus more on studying the case model. Know how the case should appear and the movement it takes and learn about dial of the watch whether it is factory original or has been refinished. Minor things such as crown and crystal are things that you will naturally pick up as you learn about the watch as a whole.
