Omega Enthusiast I truly wish I could do that but it is obvious that you have spent many many years studying is and have seen thousands of watches. Except for a few of the more obvious flaws I will never be able to tell there’s more subtle red flags. For me, the best solution would be very very careful who I bought the watch from as I would never know the difference.

You're welcome. Well, basically, these educational videos are there to guide and to remind you to thoroughly examine your watches prior to buying them. It would take me forever to make a video if I provide comparison of with and without bezel. There are too many models that come with removable type bezel and they are not the same in appearances. Therefore, focus on one specific model that you like and learn as much as you can about it prior to buying one.

@JP JP and you are a low quality individual. You're entitled to your opinion on the watches, but starting by calling someone an asshole because of their affinity for something you don't like just shows what type of person you are. Also, why check a video out on a channel by "Omega Enthusiast" if you clearly hate the brand?

Thank you for your comment. This was my first "watch wrong" video. If you visit my channel's playlist and watch the later-made episode, I provide a comparison showing what the correct version should look like. But with that said, you must understand that Omega made gazillion models in the past, and each model came with many different dials and even hand variations. If you are planning to buy a watch and have no clue where to start, I recommend you watch this video first: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poiZpn6PqqiegMU If you're new to the hobby, I suggest you not rush-hint: Most dealers who call themselves expert or reputable are not always trustworthy.

Hi, I recently purchased a Seamaster ck 2846 -4-sc supposedly a caliber 501 from1956. The watch works well and keeps proper time but when I opened the caseback to check the movement (comparing it with an internet photo of a caliber 501) I found that the "501" engraving was missing in the movement... and that the engravings in the rotor were "17 jewels unadjusted" whereas in the picture from internet was "20 jewels" (not mentioning being unadjusted)... I guess that the rotor and the piece bearing the "501" were substituted for another compatible piece (maybe not omega)... my question is if you know of any other case like this and also how this affects to the value of the watch. thnaks very much for an answer... and keep the good (omega) content!!!
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Alberto, To me it sounds like you have purchased a married/franken watch. Omega caliber 501 should appear on the movement. Here is the difference between caliber 500 and 501. 500 caliber will appear on the train bridge where the wheels are located and the automatic bridge will be blank and the automatic weight will say 17 jewels. 501 caliber will NOT appear on the train bridge, but it will appear on the automatic bridge instead and will say 19/20 jewels on the automatic weight. Therefore, on your watch watch you have the main portion of the movement as a caliber 501 and the automatic system including weight to be from caliber 500. I do not appraise watches.

Very interesting. But what I want to know is how to find a proper dial for my '56 Seamaster that an unscrupulous watchmaker replaced the dial with a generic Omega dial.

Hi Ken, sounds like either of them are correct. 471 should come with signed crown. But best to judge a watch when there is a photo to look at.

Can you explain redials. Obviously if a dial is replaced with a different model dial that’s a problem. However if Omega replaces the original dial with the same model dial then that should not be a problem. Am I correct ? Do redials include repainting or professionally cleaning the original dial ? If the redial is accurately replaced or repainted , does that devalue the the watch ? Thank you
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Redial or Refinished dial or restored dial all mean the same thing. A redial means the factory original finish of the dial has been completely removed. New paint, plating, and printing have been applied back onto the dial. This will take away the value of the watch. And since majority of watch collectors do not want a redial the value depreciation can be quite a bit.
@nelsona.7950
@nelsona.7950 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clarification. I can see why a purist would not want to strip down the dial and redo it. Do some watch companies have new original replacement dials ready to go ?
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 4 жыл бұрын
@@nelsona.7950 You're welcome. Unfortunately, if you send your watch to an authorized dealer nowadays they will send it off to get it redial as well. And regardless of how professional it is done, a specialist will still be able to tell.

Thank you for watching. This is an early video and is more like a quiz type. That is why they are made this way, as many people also enjoy figuring out the problem first before hearing my answer. But I do have other videos where I just point directly to the issue and warn my audiences to watch out for those. Basically, after watching several of my other videos on Omega watches, you can come back to watch one of these Watch Wrong quiz videos to test your knowledge. Just like in school.

I'm just starting to look at vintage Omega watches. I've only purchased one vintage watch ever and it certainly was NOT on the level of an Omega (It was a 1961 Timex Marlin). On this video I wished you would have shown what the watch should have looked like on ALL the instances you showed. I know this is two years old and maybe you've corrected that already. If so, I apologize. Which models of Omega would you recommend and should I go through a reputable dealer or buy on Ebay?

@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, that is something that you may need to ask around from other Omega collectors such as those on the Omega forum or on Facebook. Hopefully someone can refer you to someone local or domestic within your country. I do all the restoration work myself so I would not know who is reliable. Make sure whoever that is doing your job needs to know the following. 1. No case polishing. 2. No dial refinishing 3. No hand removing and 4. No removing of one luminous to replace with new one.

@TimelessHistoryChannel

Are you referring to the fake solid gold piece? If so, I am pointing out that this case is fake due to the hallmark and solid gold stamps are both located on the outside of the case back. Original Omega hallmark is located inside of the case back not outside.

Kind of disheartening to see all of the potential problems out there. On the one hand, it's to be expected for watches that are 50-70 years old, but still. Myself, I have several vintage Omegas. I've sent two back to Omega for refurbishment. They did a wonderful job both times. Pity Rolex won't do the same. It's the reason I will never buy a Rolex.
