RAYE is 26 English Dad Swiss-Ghanaian Mom been in the industry several years but was tied to a record contract that restricted her to Dance features mainly until she broke free went independent and released her debut album My 21st Century Blues in Feb 23, it won her six Brit Awards in 2024 including best album, she writes all her own songs & for many others too including Riverdance & Bigger for Beyonce, most recently for Halle on Because I Love you where she also sings backing vocals on it especially the choir bit of the track, she loves R&B Jazz but really is a genre bender combining Rap Trip Hop Ballads Pop Dance her versatility is unique, check out videos of her album tracks Hard out Here, Flip a Switch, Escapism, live performances Worth it at the Hilton Hotel, her Medley of songs at the Brit Awards and her latest single a 7 min piece of art Genesis, enjoy

I'm so glad you finally reacted to Raye! She's been in my playlist since last winter and I bet she's going to be the next BIG BIG THING in music! She's from London and has been writing songs for other artists since almost 10 years, and her record company kept her almost hidden , stopping her from publishing her own music...but then she finally did and WOW!! She is wonderful! She writes her own music, her lyricism is perfect, her attitude is cinematographic and her voice is gorgeous, wonderfully versatile and powerful. You have to check her Brit Awards performance, and her singles Escapism, Worth it and Genesis. She's a jewel, and the first time I listened to her I felt like you: amazed!

Hey Britt, now this is what I call an adequate very first encounter with RAYE. I had subbed to your channel quite a while ago when you did your very first reaction to Angelina Jordan, been an Angel for four years now - discovered RAYE four months ago and now I'm absolutely hooked on her... Incredible artist, so much to discover... You will love "Man's World" at Montreux for sure, so go ahead with that one, and after that there are still dozens of great recordings and live performances by her waiting for you to discover... This will be a fun journey! On behalf of your first reaction to AJ I said to my Norwegian buddy that you would quickly become one of my favorite reactors to her, and now I feel it coming that you'll become my fav reactor to RAYE in no time... Go girl, you & really good music is an irresistible combination... Peace and love from BavaRAYEa - and don't blame me, I told you about her immediately after I discovered her...

I was wondering when you were going to discover her. She's exceptionally talented and has come through a difficult last 7 or so years. She fought with her record label for several years to sing her own music the way she wanted to. She's operatic, r and b, pop, rock, Aretha all in one line of music. And she's written for other top stars here and across the pond. Enjoy!!!!!! And I hear she's down to earth with her fans. 💜💜💜💜 Edit: She received 6 Brit Awards this past year and interestingly, she was completely shut out at the Grammys. IMHO she shows more talent in one line of a song than most of the last year's Grammys winners have in an entire song. Just my opinion though.
@jedislap8726Ай бұрын
It may not be that she was 'shut out' of the Grammies, it may just be that because they are held at different times to the Brits it maybe just eligibility due to release dates of albums etc. Same happens with the Oscars, some films are released just after the cut off point and aren't eligible for that year.
@GraciesMomАй бұрын
@@jedislap8726 the 2024 Grammys and Brits were held 1 month apart. Grammys on February 4,2024. The Brits were held on March 2, 2024. IMO, the Grammys tend to honor what is or who is more popular rather than what's more creative, technically masterful or unique.
@jedislap8726Ай бұрын
@@GraciesMom I know when they are held but they might have different criteria as to what qualifies for voting for that year. They may have an earlier cut off point for voting to start.
@jedislap8726Ай бұрын
Also, having checked nominees must be put forward by Academy members or record companies. And RAYE is not a member and also an Independent Artist. For Independent Artists they must first join the Recording Academy in order to submit themselves as a nominee. From further searches it seems she is expected to be a nominee for Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys.

It just premiered on Broadway NY for cinema. This was the opening track of her full album live recording "My 21st Century Symphony" and was recorded for audio (vinyl) and visuals (in cinematic quality). The studio album is called "My21st Century Blues", great as well, same songs but produced by Mike Sabbath and her with funky beats and crazy vocal layering... and recently she released her full set at Montreux Jazz festival in August on vinyl, so far only videos of three performances, but the whole show will be available on video on the Montreux channel Oct. 1st... All audios are already available on a playlist on RAYE's channel (or Spotify etc...) ... The crazy thing about her: Everything she does is a perfect musical moment... Enjoy the journey!

2:36, Rachel (Raye) Keen is 5'8" (1.73 m), so not exactly "tiny". She's a British R&B and jazz singer-songwriter. She was born in London in October 1997, to a Ghanaian-Swiss mother and an English father. She's Christian and started out singing gospel music in church choir, alongside her mother, with her father as the musical director. *Edit:* According to @tyty__ty, she's actually 5'2" or 5'3". One site said she's 5'5", and everything else I found, including IMDB, said she's 5'8". In her video with rapper Stormzy, who's confirmed to be 6'5", Raye looks to be about 5'5" if she's wearing flats in the video, or 5'3" if she's wearing heels in the video.
