I've found the best way to go first is to sit on Camellia backed by a bunch of Thrust targets. It's amazing how many people struggle to deal with that thing's floating effect, especially when backed by stuff like Simul Archfiends or Warning Point.

It can perform well when piloted correctly, but resource management can be difficult so most people play something simpler and equally strong/stronger Same case as plants where the few dedicated players always perform well but the deck itself will likely never reach tier 1 representation
