21:01 Raymond's pain at remembering being made fun of after the school holidays because they'd look for holiday work is so heartbreaking. Bless you, Raymond. You can be so proud that you were ready for work and whatever you could do for your family at such a yoing age❤ My father grew up the same, ridiculed for being poor and asking around for work as a child so he could help feed his brothers and sisters, while rich peers laughed at him. It hurts and changes a man - but made him into the best man Ive known. Head up, Raymond❤

So funny how travelers always say people are judgmental about them but never realize they do that to “gorgers” also. They want gorgers to be accepting of them but won’t allow any gorgers into their family and will shun their family if they’re associated with one.
@Cjiscj777
@Cjiscj777 9 ай бұрын
The word "gorgers" is derogatory in itself. It's the English way of saying "gadjo, gadji, gadjiin" which means fat, greedy and lazy. I am Romani. When people say "You can't the G word!" I ask, "which one? Gypsy gorger, gadjo etc.." It's been a forever war between us. I'm so tired of it.

You are right about that. They calling every one gorgers , every person , who in they opinion not Gypsy or Traveller. Me , my grandad he's Gypsy from Serbia, my grandma she's from Poland, my eyes is in grey color, so they calling me Gorger, thought my grandad he's Gypsy. My dad he's not Gypsy . Only my grandad. Why I need to tell to them about my ancestry ?! Cause my grey eyes?! Cause they don't know my family , so what?! They want to be accepted but what about them?! Who they are to judge me ?! It is strange and complicated. Also they jokes about gorgers. They nasty attitude to others . Why I need to prove to them about my grandad?! What for? They all , they are no one to me. What ever. So yeah you are right about them.

At my place of work, the lab manager comes from a travelling family; we've all met his relatives. They face a horrible amount of unpardonable prejudice, racism and nasty bullying. They are a friendly, lively bunch, proud of their history. They also pull their children (especially girls) out of school way too soon, have a remarkable crime rate, and I can understand why pub staff get apprehensive when they show up on their doorstep for "just one glass of beer". I have no wholesale solution for any of it, just saying that we as a society need to treat them better. They deserve to keep their diginity and their right to self-determination, and to be addressed with respect and kindness. On the other hand, they also need to address a few problems within and stop calling abusive practices "family tradition" or try to explain them away.

Think about it though, if you have an assigned area with facilities that are maintained by the council, ie rubbish is removed then there will be no mess. The fighting is because we all treat them like shit. Yes they have a fighting aspect to their culture but that's among themselves. If we all we're a lot more accepting and welcoming to them then they wouldn't have to be so hard. Councils prescribed to being super woke and welcoming to all, with inclusivity close to their hearts, yet they find it very easy to discriminate against them with little backlash. That's probably more to do with their colour and strong adherence to masculine values.

I find this very interesting. My Aunt married into a Romany family over 60 years ago when she was just 18. My terribly middle class grandparents were dead set against this 23 yr old marrying their youngest daughter. She took matters into her own hands & got pregnant. 1960. Married in December & had the baby in January. More children followed. Their lifestyle was always so different to ours, it wasn’t until we were in our late teens we worked out they were Romanies. We just thought they were our relatives and fun to visit. They are still married. They have a stud farm in Ireland, businesses in Scotland.

Same, but I'm in the US. Learning about the traditions and culture is entertaining and fascinating! What I don't like is that horrible human trait that those outside the traveling community "hate" an entire community. The same goes for the disdain some travelers show toward "ALL non-gypsy" people. Learn about other cultures, if nothing else, to grow respect for a general culture but DON'T aim negative judgment at any group without knowing each individual personally, that's just prejudice. There's joy and passion that transcends any community. The gypsy shows just share the opportunity to meet individuals while learning how fun the traditions are!

@@Liyahblu I'm sorry but it is their culture! The majority of them find nothing wrong with this! Sure, their will always be some who differ, but on the whole, it is a collective thing... You seem to have not had much interaction with Gypsies/Travelors. I used to serve them for YEARS when I managed a jewelry store! We had to be so careful whenever they would come because they would always try to get us to take severy items out of the cases at once all while complimenting us and saying "God Bless You" etc. I also had a best friend who was a Romany Gypsy while growing up her in the States. Her family were horrible people who actually believed they were good people! They stole pretty much every day no matter where they were. I like their spirit and strength, but MY GOD, they genuinely have no respect for others, nor the law. They are extremely manipulateive people and will try anything to get their way. @@JennyJeanRazzle Okay, as a fairly intelligent black woman watching this video, without letting the narrative sway my perception, I can clearly see that people are NOT "racist" against Travelers. They are ANGRY because it is common for travelors to disrupt and disrespect peace and property! Not to mention the constant dishonesty when it comes to their financial obligations. I have dealt with many Gypsies/Travelers in my life and while I have personally never met one that I didn't like, I can attest to the fact that theivory, manipulation, disruption, entitlement, and victim mentality seem to be a mere part of their nature. Even in my own race I have seen how this can be what people "HATE", not always my race. Any "group" of people can have things about them that stick out like a sore thumb. Somehow with the Travelors community, this seems to be mangnified. It is not racism to acknowledge that if you know it to be true.

Bill, since he’s a well known traveller who is active in many aspects of traditional gypsy culture and doesn’t have fear of confronting the community and council on behalf of his people should open Pubs throughout the UK that have predominately gypsy workers and predominantly gypsy customers. That way they never have to worry if the Pub will turn them away. Even if Bill doesn’t have the finances to do that alone he has some connections to very successful Traveller business owners who can or do it themselves. If they had their own Pubs owned by people of their same background I think it would be more respectful both ways right off the bat and the Travellers would never have to worry about discrimination against them… then they can turn the tables on those people who treated them poorly and deny them service. That would be amazing 😅

I've met ppl who claim to care abt the animals but have an ulterior motive and I wonder if she is this way. In America you don't go snooping around pole houses at night you'll get sh't. Best just call the police if you seriously suspect animal abuse.

I lived in Augusta Ga and in South Carolina there were a whole community of travelers. Many had mansions and there are many campers. The women and children were the ones I’ve seen because the men traveled and did construction during good weather. I never had any issues with them. They stayed to themselves and their community was clean. They did have many get arrested for lying on car loans and welfare fraud but I’m sure so has a lot of people.

@@hellooutthere8956 it is strange. The houses are very large and they put butcher paper in the windows for a certain amount of time. The are is mixed with trailers and the are statues of saints in the yards. I’ve heard that they it the paper in the window and don’t actually live in the hose for 5 years to ward off evil spirits. I’m not positive on that one but they do put paper covering the windows. The weddings are in November. They stick together and don’t bother people in public. I used to work for a company that sold hair products to them and I also delivered hair products to the salon that did their hair. The ladies and children always look like they are dressed for pageants. Even the babies. You can google Murphy Village, North Augusta and you can see the houses.

This report reminds me of my childhood and youth. As a German, I grew up in Germany with gypsies and was friends with the ones in my town. There are three different groups of Gypsies in Germany. Sinti, with dark complexions and their own original language and traditions, the Yenish, with light complexions and a more mixed language, and the Roma, who have mainly moved from Eastern Europe in recent years. I grew up with Sinti. The English gypsies shown here remind me of Yenish. But in contrast to the English gypsies, the horse does not have this high status among the gypsies in Germany.

I moved from a densely populated gypsy area, I now live in a 'normal' area. I'd give anything to move back to my gypsy community, most helpful, kind caring people I ever met. The area I live now is so cold, everyone is trying to outdo each other ... I've never ever been made unwelcome in their community even been a country lass, they looked out for me been a young single mum, even had 6 lads turn up when my new partner started visiting to check he was treating me right 😂 They changed his mind too as he had a similar view of gypsy people and 'how they are' There is obviously bad apples in the cart, like every community. They have some cultural ideas that seem shocking to us however their children as a rule, and in my long experience with them, have been the most polite, well behaved, cleanest children. Their animals have always been looked after ( to the quote of one old gypsy man, I sort me kids, I sort my horse, me dogs, me wife then me beer😂 )

Don't be tricked by this. The travellers near my mother's house spray painted a horse and cut it all over, they stole thousands of pounds worth of tools and tack, they destroyed the local fields, and they used their children for manual labour. Same where I live, they thrash the horses, leave them without food or water, trap them in the front garden which is barely big enough for them to move, and make their kids perform manual labour.

His property is worth WAAAAAAY more than their houses on a tiny lot. Land is always going to be worth money, because they can’t make more land. He needs to tell them to sod off. Yes there are gypsies that break the laws and leave a mess but wouldn’t if they had places to get rid of waste and allotted areas around the country where they can stopover while on the move. Neither side is attempting to know the other, but the gypsies deal with discrimination, harassment, etc every single day of their lives so I don’t blame them for being angry. Wish they’d find a solution to support their heritage and culture.

I think most people's problem with them is they do not want to pay into anything but want the same benefits as those who do. You're in parks knowing people have a problem with it but rather than keep it clean, dispose of garbage, and use toilets that are in the park you want to use defecate or urine on the property itself. The attitude is eff anyone isn't 1 of them but mad when they get it in return. It is constant you owe but I don't have to do anything but breathe and that should be enough.

@CraftyWitch1990

How is marrying young a bad thing? I'd much rather see any child I had be married young than gain a reputation for being easy and sleeping around from a young age. If any traveler dared behave with such a lack of self respect they'd be shunned. The women are incredibly moral and won't even say certain cuss words because they value their reputation. They don't drink before marriage, they're brought up to be respecful and keep a nice home. The men work hard to provide for their families. Very much traditional family values. These days it's not uncommon to find 13/14 year old lasses pregnant and they've no idea who the dad is either. By the time they're 20 they've got 3 kids, none of them to same dad, no ring in sight, living off government handouts, getting pissed every weekend and acting like slappers. I know which community I'm glad to be part of that's for sure.
