Hi happy hikers. I'm out again for a walk on Gamallt in the Upper Wye Valley on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains in Mid Wales. The aim is to get a view of the majestic Wye Valley overlooking the Wye Valley Walk and the beautiful Gilfach nature reserve. It turned out to be a super gnarly walk in the clouds. A great vibe. Wow!! I don't know about blowing a few cobwebs away, I think I would've lost a few brain cells from that wind! That was crazily fierce! Well done for keeping upright! It's something different being out in a force that strong, isn't it - it's wild! The music suited the windy wildness well! Loved it. Haha love being out in wild weather at times.its invigorating , like a buzzing feeling. As long as you have got the right kit on. You Feel alive,and appreciate the simple things like a cup of tea when you get back, Although the views weren't clear you get a sense of this place at other times. I'm going to try and get out more in inclement weather because I tend to shy away from it and hide in the comfort of home wrapped under a blanket watching others do it! The times when I've been out in rain and gales I've really enjoyed it though so I must remember the fun it can be regardless of the weather. Certainly character building! So annoy when the wind, and steam in your case, makes it hard to film. Don't blame you for getting out though, it really is a great way to spend time. Alright there Anthony, yeah I love the big hills and mountains when they're like this. It's a real buzz on many levels - I love the water rushing off the slopes. There's sound everywhere. Ha, the camera dried out later but yeah it obscures things for sure. Re-the carrot and Humous - it's a tasty alternative to a pasty. Thanks for the visit. Mark

Mark, that looked a wild day with the wind and rain🌬🌨 A day like that is definitely all about pushing on through it and finding a spot with some shelter when it comes. Not an easy day to film (or to stand up). Did get a sense of the land below with he valley winding its way through all those hills, though as you say it would be cool to come back on day with more definitive views where you could bask in the sun on the top at your leisure☀😊 Happy and safe travels in 2024👍

Brilliant mate and a really beautiful place. I might've said before, I once visited Gilfach with my dad on a beautiful day in late spring, about ten years ago. He absolutely loved it, totally bowled over by the place he was and made a point of going back a few years later. Great memories. Good to experience a nice bit of B and B luxury too. Wild day up there Mark. I walked up the trail from the Marteg picnic place (just off the Wye road) that goes up Yr Wylorn, opposite Gamallt, on my way back from north Wales a couple of years ago - it was calm September weather then though, so clear views down in the Wye and the Marteg. I've often looked up to Gamallt from that picnic place whilst eating my lunch and wondered what's up there. Now I know. An awful lot of wind and rain ! Cheers, Dave.

Hi Mark that did look wet and windy and cold but what a beautiful place, The Cambrian mountains are beautiful even though much couldnt be seen, we can definitely see the beauty and nice you booked a b and b with that weather ! Hey, Anna, yeah it's a great spot. I've known it for years now - you know it's one of them hills you pass and then one day you get up it. I wasn't disappointed at all - I could get a glimpse of the Upper Wye. And like you I wash myself clean and love this kind of weather. We're crazy weather people. All the best up there. Mark

Hi Mark, this walk will be remembered for you going up high and leaning into that wind, and after that last shot with the dry camera you must go back on a much better day, yes going walking helps clear the mind and gives you a great buzz even on a wild day, great vid and loved the lichens cheers nigel

I've seen the name Gamallt on a map - there might even be more than one around north and mid Wales. They look fairly similar but I'd also wondered about the views from ontop. I think you were brave to be out there in such conditions, Mark and glad you were able to make it through unscathed. Looking forward to seeing your next outing. I think you're right Olly - they're common in a strange way. This one is super - shear on one side. Re-the conditions it was mad on the edge there but already in its interior. The next day?
