I just wanted to move a large piece of iron out of the way... I thought it could mask another coin. I was very surprised as I saw the tip of the blade. I thought at first it was a dagger. I misjudged the lenght of the blade, because I happen to swing the coil parallel to it, then turned 180° and did the same.
I'm pretty sure, it is a "M1898" bayonet. It was built for the Mauser rifle. You can read more info and see some pictures of it here: www.gotavapen.s...
2 other pictures I took that day:

Great finds. My metal detecting buddies and I have found most military relics in the camps or along routes the armies marched. Every army in the early days had to water their horses and usually would camp near water or on a hill to keep an eye on the enemy. Old military maps or diaries are a great way to locate camps.

I like your videos,especially because you are using the Deus so much and I am working on getting one soon.You dig with what ever you fancy.Your Garden Knife is very practical considering the fact that you are taking the train to areas near small villages to detect.As far as your not talking in your videos,I don't see that as being a problem as some viewers do.Having lived in Germany for several years,I do speak Deutsche,but I don't speak Russian or Polish or other European languages (I wish I did) and I watch their Videos. At least you add English subtitles and amusing little captions.A great many people making detecting videos don't show the swinging of the coil,finding targets,or digging up the items.Those Videos that don't show those things are like boring show and tell in grammar school.As much as I like seeing what people have found. I much rather enjoy seeing the items actually being found.I have subscribed.I look forward to watching more of your videos.Happy hunting!

LyudmilaRGVK Thank you very much for the comment (somehow it landed in the spam folder (what was Google only thinking?...)). It is nice to hear that you like my videos (thank you). It seems like there are two kinds of videos. 95% are about the finds and the other 5% are showing "metal detecting". I believe the ratio is appropriate to the demand, which is a little bit strange in my opinion (because there are much better options, like going to a museum for example). This situation can be sometimes a little bit disappointing, because it is often not possible to see, how a detector works (if you are interested in a particular machine). We could also learn from each other (I like to watch other peoples techniques), but it's impossible if you only see the target lying on the ground... Life is strange... Have a great day! Happy Hunting.

I just love the way people treat each other... Yes, most detectors take the trash with them, however, sometimes it isn't possible. Things just happen.

@Paige Thompson It is the control unit of my metal detector. It receives signals from the coil. I flip it sometimes to switch between two programs. It changes the behaviour of the detector (1. "slower signals" but more depth, 2. faster reaction but not as deep).

MetalDetecting24 Congrats on the WWI Bayonet and the coins as well as all the other items that you recovered. . Nice video. I do have a few suggestions for you in order to increase your finds; First slow your sweep speed down. I don't know of any metal detector that is able to process information on a target when you sweep as fast as you seem to be going in the video. Keep the coil on the ground and skuff the ground as you go. In your video it does not look like you spend much time overlapping your swings. I have found that by making circular searches I cover a lot of the area. As a safety suggestion wear gloves at all times and never reach into a hole barehanded when you know that there is broken glass in the hole. I would also suggest that you buy a digging shovel as it speeds up your time digging a target. You might also wish to make your hole a bit larger when you can (in the woods where no one will see the hole) as this will also assist you in not damaging your find. As another thing I do is to carry a 5 gallon bucket with me to put all the trash that I find be it on or in the ground. I clean up the environment as I go. I also bury leaves and branches to help make the area look nicer and improve the soil. This is a big plus when I search private property and the owner stops by to see how I am doing and notices that the area looks so much cleaner. This also helps me get invited back to search the property again. These are just suggestions and they will help you keep from getting your fingers cut on glass or rusty items. Thanks you again for a wonderful video keep making them and I will have to visit and do some TH'ing! I sure loved finding old German coins when I was stationed in Augsburg and Klosterlechfeld in 1977 - 1979.

THing4CSA Thank you for the advice. We can always improve something, but in many situations it is simply not possible. I have to find the best compromise. My detector is pretty fast (with this particular setting). I can swing the coil that fast as long as I'm able to process all signals "in my head" (which works pretty well so far). I could take a shovel (I have a "Fiskars") but I do not really need it (in most cases). It adds weight to my backpack and it compromises my movement (I often hunt paths where other people showing up - I feel more uncomfortable with a shovel in my hand). I'm happy with my knife for the most of the time. The holes are often too small. I was developing this (minimalistic) "technique" at my park hunts. It is sometimes a little bit risky, I have to admit... But it saves time. I will try to improve it. About "the bucket" - I wrote about it in the previous comment. Hunting the area around Augsburg in the 70s must have been a very nice experience. The finds were probably amazing back then. Thank you & have a nice day and HH.

Hi, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why are people commenting that you are crazy? Is it because of the area that you are in? Is it legal there? Fear of unexploded shells? Here in the US, we typically don't have to worry about unexploded ordinances, so I wouldn't know...
@MetalDetecting24

+naturegirl92584 - Hi, I have no idea. Maybe it's my fast hunting style, or my recovering ("stabbing") technique. Maybe I'm crazy because the video is too long, or I'm showing metal detecting instead of just targets on top of a plug. Maybe I'm not taking a ton of trash into my backpack. Maybe it's all together ;). Have a great day!

HelloMD24, Really like your videos but am not in a position to make any or do not do anything interesting enough to make em anyway! How do you decide where to search apart from somewhere within driving distance? From all the foreign coins it would suggest you are near a german shopping or fair area? What the most valuable piece and or the easiest to find you have? Did you here of the man who found a huge child’s fist size brooch as he was doing what you are but in a Royal Park in England? It was something used to hold clothes on by King Henry the Vlll and it was found on an old hunting trail through the park. Due to the stupid English Laws he was not allowed to keep it, but was allowed to get it auctioned for several million pounds of which he got a good chunk !!! Cool or what. The money must have changed his live for sure. I will do some research to see if I can find a picture of the brooch and send a link. Take care mrbluenun
@MetalDetecting24
@MetalDetecting24 8 жыл бұрын
+mrbluenun - Hello, I use public transport only. This rules out many interesting remote location. I usualy don't do much research (at least at this point). I often use Google Maps (sat) only and choose places that are "just looking right". What looks "right" to me depends on the environment and many factors. I'm also trying to imagine if people could have been there in the past. I make the decisions quick and spontanious. When I'm scouting an area with my detector, the finds I make can influence my decisions in the future (as I discover the history of a place on my own). Sometimes I'm using older maps and try to find old paths. This only works as an indicator, because I'm not the only one who is doing it... I often prefer to follow my instinct when I'm in the field. It (usually) has to be an area where I can enjoy detecting without beeing "watched" and interrupted by other people (as I'm bored answering always the same questions, they ask). This rules out another huge amount of places. From time to time I like to do some "wild stuff" at noisy or trashy spots, but I prefer quiet areas. I can not answer the question about the most valuable items, because I don't do any research in this direction. I'm not interested in the materialistic value of the finds. I can enjoy finding a bird ring, or a big old nail more than something that could be more "valuable". I'm not going after a "treasure" to be honest. A silver coin from time to time (as a psychological reward) would be enough :). Have a great day.
