kwilla2001 Yes, but Palestine pre 1947 was not a country, it was a region of the Middle East controlled by the British after WW1, like much of the rest of the Middle East was controlled by European powers and was divided up into countries who's boundaries were often drawn arbitrarily. There has never been a Palestinian nation state, there is no Palestinian language or Palestinian ethnicity or culture that distinguishes the Arabs who today call themselves Palestinian from those in the neighboring Arab countries. The Palestinian national identity was only created in the post 1948 time period as a counter to the creation of Israel. Both Jews and Arabs were offered their own state in that region when the British left. The Jews said yes, the Arabs said no, and after 60+ years of conflict, we still have no resolution. The situation today is what I base my questions on. Define what a Palestinian state would look like today. Would it exist along side an Israeli state? Would it be only in the West Bank and Gaza, or would much of what is today Israel be included? Would the Israeli state have to be eliminated for a Palestinian state to exist? I never hear the pro Palestine side answer any of these questions.
