the problem with the argument at 44:00 is that the attacks on October 7th were planned, they weren’t a sporadic reaction based on the anger of sole Gazans, it was a planned attack by a very large group of people.

hamas have stated clearly they had plans to cause carnage and take hostages, but the actions of the individual actors - a bunch of mostly 21yo inprisoned and traumatized boys running around with guns - were not part of hamas' explicit plans. My Lai obvs wasn't an order from the Pentagon, etc

@@angklungeds I understand your point, and I fully sympathise with the fact that it is understandable that people who have been oppressed for decades may express their rage in violent ways. However, Malm’s point was specifically regarding the Re’Im music festival attack , which was coordinated and pre-meditated by Hamas. Hamas are not irrationally, spontaneously expressing their anger, they are planning their attacks in order to inflict terror and destruction. (btw, I am not a zionist, and do not support Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza)

@@JoshuaRead-ip5ng No it's become pretty clear that they didn't actually know that the festival was going on. Andreas mentions that here I think. They had planned the attack for the day before, Yom Kippur, and then as a large brigade of them broke through the wire and landed with paragliders and so-forth, they basically chanced upon this festival by accident, and started shooting. I really don't think Sinwar's orders were to kill as many people as possible - or they wold have killed a lot more. Their objective was to get hostages and, yes, create fear and carnage in the process. Sinwar et al might have drummed them up before and sanctioned them to act brutally, but that wasn't the set aim, nor was the festival a planned target. Lets recall also that 1/3 of those killed were on-duty military or police personel - standard targets in legitimate acts of armed resistence against a criminal occupier.

That has always been his problem. I question his academic training - he argues on matters of the heart, where he presents opinions when he should have presented the sources with facts. The one-sidedness, arrogance and cross-confidence are the first things you have to train away.
