I've had peripheral neuropathy for over 10 years and have never heard of rediculopathy. After seeing this video I'm sure I have both. Also I had no idea that you could have neuropathy with just being pre-diabetic. This video is hands down the most informative video that I have come across in all these years of research. Thank you so much!

I was diagnosed with the same thing recently! I don’t have diabetes, but they said I have pre diabetes. The ONLY real help I’ve found is STOP eating food that’s full of sugar. And Carbs turns into sugar once it gets into the system. Thus, I’ve gotten 50% better in one week by leaving sugar alone. I’ve had a sweet tooth for years, but I was in too much pain; therefore, I had to find relief. I’ve ended up in emergency twice, and I felt like checking out of life. I’ve lessened by sugar and carbohydrates by 70% and I’m shocked that I’m 50% better. And I lost a little weight, but I must loose more. Sugar and Carbs are my worst enemy, it might be yours as well! And I take at least 2 Celebrex daily. I’m going to add a supplement named Alpha Lipoic Acid and exercise and I believe I’ll can be happy again!! 😊 And no more wanting to check out!!

@@marjorjorietillman856 Thank you so much for your response and you are correct on all accounts! I was doing really well a few years ago going on low carb and no sugar diet then I got back on the sugar train :( I am just now going back to that diet again... I have always worked out due to being under weight. Totally confused the Dr's around here because I don't fit in their box for having the problems I have. It's frustrating. I tried alpha lipoic acid years ago and will try that again as well. The night pain is just so horrible! I use nervive cream and it helps some as well as homemade arnica oil. Thanks again! It helps to know I'm not alone ;)

After seeing several neurologists and two EMG tests, NOBODY ever told me that I CLEARLY have radiculopathy Respectfully, Dr. Ahlawat, physical therapy did NOTHING for me - and as for staying active, that sounds great and makes a great deal of sense, but when you have, as I do, an unsteady gait, and a fear of falling flat on my face, clearly is not viable (and VERY frustrating). At least for me. You suggest that we just have to live with this, which depresses me no end - but I am most grateful to you for a very informative and enlightening discussion.

I feel the same as you. Physical therapy HURTS! Exercise hurts, too. If I just go out to dinner for a couple of hours I need to spend the next day or two in bed to recover. I have idiopathic large and small fiber neuropathy, plus fibromyalgia. I fell and broke my arm recently and I’m now afraid to go out alone. I’m a prisoner in my home. These neurologists don’t know enough about causes or meds that help. Those EMGs are torture, too. I hope you find something that helps your pain. Some people say marijuana helps, but you have to fund the right strain. This and Advil were suggested to me by the “experts” at UCSF. I couldn’t believe it! So, in other words they had nothing to help me and certainly no cure. But Advil? Did they really think that I hadn’t tried Advil in 15 years? I felt insulted! That was one of the first things I tried. It doesn’t touch neuropathic pain, but not much does. Have you gone to a pain specialist? You should try that; they I can give you some stronger medication, ie. opiates, that will take the edge off the pain. Try marijuana, too, it helps some people. If you have trouble sleeping I suggest Ambien. For some reason Ambien reduces my pain tremendously. If I could take it during the day, I would. I guess because it affects the brain it helps. Good luck🙏🏻🤗

About 20 years ago the bottoms of my feet felt like leather, after a number of examinations, no one was, able to pinpoint the problem, but eventually went away. About a year ago this sensation returned, along with a burning/tingling sensation, with no significantly loss of nerve activity. Lauter I learned about neuropathy and possible solutions. What has worked for me is a Supplement, alpha lapoic acid, 600mg 3x a day, it pays to get a quality one. I no longer have this burning sensation, but still working on my feet and taking the supplement daily. It may or may not work for everyone. I also had an insulin resistance test, and am clean.

I have had PN for 25 year and I'm now 68 years old, it is very severe and the pain is bad all the time. I have to wear shorts because trousers are to painful when they touch my skin. I have seen 7 neurologists of which two were professors. It seams to me science knows a lot about PN but not a lot about what can be done. I am not diabetic and don't drink alcohol, I've had nerve release surgery 2 years ago which made the PN worse. I've noticed if I lift something heavy my feet go into horrific pain and then take some days to settle down. I've tried most drugs but with little effect, the only thing a really recommend is walk miles regularly even in pain it gives me a little relief.

So informative, thanks! I’m pre-diabetic and my PCP says my neuropathy is not caused by that. However, my Neurologist said indeed it is. I’ve had EMG/NCV on all 4 extremities and that’s what it showed. It’s nice to hear another specialist say pre diabetes can also cause this. I think many primaries don’t understand this. I wish I knew about this earlier.

Diane I recommend watching Beat Diabetes to learn to completely reverse your Pre diabetes with diet alone...by avoiding refined carbohydrates, sugar, fructose, high glycemic foods, like oat meal, all breads made with wheat, rye or oats. Your neuropathy will stop getting worse once you stop the inflamation caused by your diet. Avoid all seed oils. Beat Diabetes and pre diabetes. It is what you eat and drink.

I like your straight forward presentation‼️I’m not diabetic but am 82yrs old. Wearing compression stockings helps the pain in my ankles. Do u think it’s OK to wear them? Last ck-up, Doc said all is well, however I’ve been dealing with (what I think is neuropathy) by myself. I’m not very confident in doctors as I’ve had 3 major surgeries that went poorly. One of which they pulled the plug, but I cheated the Grim Reaper twice now. I tend to hold back my complaints to doctors, old age is usually the answer (deal with it, with a smile) is the attitude My hands recently started tingling & feel numb. Sometimes it feels like a bug is on my arm. I’ve had a laminectomy c2-3-4, a thyroid removed & a poorly done left hip replacement & a 2nd corrective hip replacement. You give me hope. I wish there were more women doctors. Thank you😻

Yep, "D", all of the above. What most people do not realize is that when you cannot feel the bottom of your feet your balance is thrown off, even though they may not be connected in any way, nerve wise. Physical feelings in your feet tell your brain that you have substantial purchased under them, but when you cannot feel that connection you will be constantly afraid of falling or slipping especially in a shower. I have had peripheral Neuropathy for almost 10 years. It took me a while to realize that it was the Statins which were ruining my nerves, so I stopped taking it. I am regaining some feeling now that I have been off Statins for about two years. I even went in for a Diabetes check at the lab. Nope, Diabetes free, so it had to be the Statins. @@iam.lalala Not totally, but it is much more bearable and I can actually walk bare footed and not wince at the pain. Just remember, Statins are killers, but just like COVID the drug companies want everyone on something because they make billions of dollars in profits, banking on our gullibility to buy into whatever Big Pharma is selling. Statins are one of their biggest sellers because Americans have been propagandized into accepting their word of its efficacy. When you become responsible for your own health you can get better when you only take what doctors say with a grain of salt because most do no have any idea what they are prescribing other than what they read in the marketing materials. Good luck ! PS: Look into Drugs-dot-com before taking any drug so you know what it is for and its side affects.

It feels like I am sitting on a grain of sand if there is even the smallest crumb on my couch or anywhere if my skin touches it. Having anything in my pants pockets will make the nerves on that side go numb. Even the smallest bit of dirt from the gardeners using the blowers and everything kicking back into my apartment annoys the hell out of my feet and I am going to feel it. I can step on a bee and not feel it, I can step on most things and not feel it too well, dirt seems to be the exception. I was born with neurofibromatosis type 1. I have tumors in the nerve roots of my spine. I have been going through a lot of pain since 2007. I have been on gabapentin, amitryptiline, nortriptyline, topicals,, tramadol. Nothing works for me. I take a more holistic approach and it doesn't always work, but I can at least function through the day smoking.

I am diabetic and my primary physician tells me that what I have is neuropathy. However, my pain started and still exists on my back. I feel pain in my feet mostly when I lay down for bed. The pain is very strong. On my back, it feels like a burning sensation and like bees are stinging my back. When I feet, the pain also feels like a burning sensation and like bees are stinging at different parts of my feet and/or legs. My doctor prescribed gabapantin with gradual increases to now at 600 mg three times a day. Although it "helps" minimize the pain, it does not go away completely. One thing I noticed though, is that my pain goes haywire right after I take gabapantin and it takes approximately one hour for the pain to subside. I wonder what causes that.

Back injury here before I was thirty from heavy lifting. Two lumbar surgeries, feet started to burn, diagnosed neuropathy by neurologist. But surgeon wouldn’t think about continuing back pain, HMO has ignored the spinal stenosis , degeneration. Now cervical issues , thoracic. Meanwhile neuropathy continues into hands. She didn’t mention the “drunken sailor” walking, unsteadiness. Or falling, sometimes right over backwards-- not from diabetes but the damage to spine ,so radiculopathy . 35:28

I have been researching my problems for years. I have no medical coverage and there are no free clinics around here so I cure myself. This problem had me going in circles because I was treating it's symptoms as other problems. Your videos was a game changer and I can now see how all these other problems are really symptoms of the neuropathy. Thank you for such an informative and complete video. I have been pleased to send your link to many people I know who I feel could be helped by watching. Thank you so much.

Really interesting. I had a disk removed about 18 months ago. It protruded and the MRI showed it had crushed my spine by about 25%. My back never hurt, it was my sciatic nerve in my left leg. I felt something go ... within 3 hours I couldn't stand or walk and was like that for 3 months in total constant pain. It got removed but now 18 months on I have this. Balance is poor, proprioception is bad, I have to look down to see if I have socks on or not? Always like walking on pebbles. The worst thing, and I've had a few mains shocks in my like, is the sudden pain, like an electric shock. Tripping on things that aren't there is my new super power. Check your shoes? I lost a lathe tool, a parting blade, that's 6 inches long, inch wide and 1/8 inch thick. When I went to the Doctors, it fell out of my boot, I had no idea it was there.

Very good presentation on this subject! The best so far as of all doctors I have been listening to. It’s amazing how I have had the EMG test and yet I still don’t know what happens with the test. The doctor was very vague in his diagnosis. He hardly talked to me and with some of my questions he was so dismissive with his short answers, and declared the test results were normal. I wish I could find a great doctor (neurologist) like her here in Chicago area.👏🤷‍♂️

An EMG is a “A weird but very, very cool test”? Funny how she left out EXTREMELY PAINFUL!! I wish you had discussed small fiber neuropathy, too. I knew I had it 15 years before my EMGs showed any abnormality. I tried to get a skin biopsy from different neurologists, but none would do it. I finally got diagnosed at UCSF, but they wouldn’t do it either, even though it is supposed to be the “gold standard” of tests for small fiber neuropathy. They finally diagnosed me just based on my symptoms. I had burning pain all over, not just in my hands and feet. Even my nose would burn when I wore my glasses. Anything that touches me makes me hurt, including cold air blowing from the air conditioner. I have tried many kinds of meds, but none help. I feel like I am in hell😢

Oh I’m so sorry that sounds horrible. To feel like your quality of life is so compromised at your age is really sad. I had my spinal injury in my early 40s and my quality of life completely turned up side down. Pain has been constant for 8 years. I have had the same problems, oh you have this or that, but there feels like there is no real help out there. I’m a “complex” patient so they just say your complex. I couldn’t imagine feeling so exhausted and I’m so much pain as well as having a skin problem in your 20s. The best years of your life. Your attitude is really inspiring. I think when you go through such a hard battle it makes you appreciate the smaller things in your life. Once you get to a place of acceptance it gets a little easier doesnt it. But shit days still come and go. Good luck I hope that in time that new improvements in medicine can will find something to help you one day. Hugs to you. X

I have the diagnosis (PN) but have noticed my symptoms improve when using barefoot walking technique (look it up on KZbin) while using a pair of shoes with no heel. Making the whole foot work instead of just the heel seems to have improved my situation and I feel less electric shocks. This technique makes your muscles work harder, and you have to stand more upright but your muscles will become stronger the more you do it. I do stress this is my experience and may not work for others.

I haven't been diagnosed but I have the tingling in my feet and it goes up my legs sometimes if I've been sitting too long. But the purpose of my post is to agree with you about walking barefoot. I have problems with my knees and need the assistance of a "walker". Even in my socks I am better able to balance and I can feel my feet doing their job. I know there is a danger of small irritations to my skin, but I just have to keep my floors as clean as possible. There are a couple of chiropraters on UTube who recommend going barefoot. Good luck to you.

My neuropathy is described by my neurologist as parasthesia, I was treated with Gabapentin working up to 600mg 3 times a day, had absolutely zero effect. What bothers me is that the condition is really an irritation, rather than pain. Right foot is worse than left, and it is really unwise to take off shoes and socks. Having a bath is the worst, this does cause pain, sometimes I have to bathe with my feet propped up out of the water, daily just getting my feet wet, ie. showering or toe dipping in the sea are all most unpleasant. I sleep with socks as this helps. What I am doing is flexing my toes constantly trying to make the sensations less irritating. When walking it is though there is not the feedback to my brain, and I feel wobbly, and as though my balance is not great. Driving seems to need my past experience to instruct my tingling foot to press the pedals as required. Am only posting this, because the problem of wet feet seems to be one that no-one mentions, and it is my worst symptom.
