Reminders of the precinct's past are still visible: The crest of the old Transvaal Republic, the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek, with its motto, "Eendragt Maakt Magt (Unity Makes Strengths)", above one of the gates. "HOU GESLUIT (Keep locked)" is stencilled in red on a door behind thick steel bars.
But Johannesburg is an ever-evolving city.
The Old Fort is now Constitutional Hill, housing the Constitutional Court, and from last Thursday - Human Rights Day - until Sunday, it hosted the Human Rights Festival. #News24Video
