On the Wrist, from off the Cuff: Casio Vintage - A1000D-7EF (Premium EU Ed.) vs. A168WA-1 Comparison

On this episode we check out an interesting little Casio I recently acquired for one of my Sons, the European exclusive Casio Vintage A1000D-7EF. With its solid Stainless Steel case and MOP (Mother of Pearl) dial, it has a much more premium feel over your typical model from the Casio Vintage line, without breaking the bank. Sure it's still no luxury time piece but it isn't meant to be, it's just a solid update to an iconic brand silhouette. When I was 8 years old I was into watches, and when someone asked me what I wanted for christmas or birthday, it usually was either tech stuff or watches (…or lego). Now I’m almost 30, and I still own some of these watches. Some are even quite rare nowadays

When I was 8 years old, I managed to persuade my parents to get me a plastic Mickey Mouse watch. I do not think it was a ticking watch either. I did not have a proper watch till my late teens, and I think it was a Casio F 91.

This was a really nice review and the A1000, no matter what you think of it, shows that Casio listens to their market and what they ask for. A lot of casio fans have been asking for a full steel model of the A158/168 and this was Casio's answer. So in my opinion the A1000 is a great watch but I don't think it's a $100 great watch. Maybe $50 to $80 is more realistic. If the module contained more like a countdown timer I might consider this again but as is, it's hard to justify the purchase of an a1000 when the a158/168 is around $20. Most of the time less than $20. Hopefully casio will continue with this particular line offering different models because regardless of my criticism this is a great watch.

true, but i'd still buy it over the a168 (already have it) because of the size. on an 8-inch wrist, these retro casios look small. a1000d is bigger, so this might be a factor when buying.

I still own the early 80's DW-1400 and the LCD is still crisp these guys know how to build a great watch.

maybe it's a coincidence but my a1000 is way more accurate than my cheap casio's, they usually are off by a second every couple of days but my a1000 is like 1 second off a month. My only negative is that the digits aren't as bright as other casio's.

I LOVE this Casio! If they would only make this with a high accuracy quartz, solid link bracelet, and a lume that stays on for a few seconds (without holding the button down), I’d pay 500 for it.

One main difference is the weight. G shock are rather heavy in general.

I love the looks of this watch, but mine is not that accurate, it's 13 seconds fast after just 10 days. I also own a Marea copy of the Casio A168W which is barely 2 seconds fast after a month and a half. It bothers me no end to discover that a more expensive watch is less accurate than a cheaper one. Bummer!!

Considering it’s the same module with no new features, I say get the cheaper watch. The metal case looks nice but for $100+ less money you get the same functions. If they bring back the Marlin module it would be worth the price for the metal case. Edit: Also they sell dressier versions of the A168 for around $40 that look nicer than the standard version.

The cheaper watch has a coated resin case. In a couple of months it will be full of scratches just by rubbing against your clothes. The watch will look rubbish and you will have wasted 20 bucks. With 20 bucks you are only safe buying the resin watches without metal finish, which is limiting. That is the main reason I spent 60 GBP and got the A1000.

Anyway, I like both watches and use them as dress watches, and i agree that the a1000 looks much better and is the better choice. Still, the A168 is really comfortable and the blue light is very cool, i think.

@@todayipaint4667The battery is a CR1616 and lasts about 3 years. The battery on an a168w is a CR2016 and lasts about 7 years. This watch weighs 82g and the a168w weighs 50g. Both watches have the same WR which is disappointing due to the price difference. Also the a1000d is often 3-4 times the price.
