Dry docks are not fun. I had to paint the bottom of a 100 foot charter boat in Monterey by myself. Along with a bow thruster. Mixing cayenne pepper into 10 gallons. Hauled it out on Monday, prepped it on Tuesday Morning, started Tuesday afternoon painting it, finished it late Wednesday, splashed it Friday afternoon. Hard work.

Thankyou it makes me not tear my hair out in frustration🤣 Linh, I totally understand the feeling of peace of mind re: seeing underneath the waterline cleaned, repainted and general safety check, it is after all the bottom of ur home. It was nice to see little Compass, even fleetingly hint hint. Glad ur all well, though tired. Teal u are such a crack up, when u dropped the Go pro, and did take 2, u had this smirk, I thought u were gonna lose it and just laugh ur head off. Is Emma seriously having to sleep on the lounge for a week!!!? Oh at least it look comfy Em🤣😂 I gotta say how refreshing it is when u see a haul out without a whole reef system growing. Shows how well the ship is appreciated, Thanks for sharing 🇦🇺🌈🌞🐶

Teal , can't wait to see you and your boat back in the splash again and running cool and you fishing off her aft deck again... sv basik is missing out on all the wind passing it by......I view all the boat shots in SLO mo and just imagine if it was 3 times the size it would be theeeee best cat in the world and that doesn't take anything away from it now.... The only thing missing is the AC you exchanged for heat... Let me know if you want to fix it ... Between me and Clark lm sure it will get up and run again... Using both voltages and we will direct wire it simplistically with off on switches or thermostatically like Clark likes.. I would do it even more simplistic for less chances for stuff to go wrong , but if you know what you are doing and you will by the time it's running again you'll understand how to put in more controls for regulating temps with digital or non digital readout parts slash controls...It's probably the control box or a bad transformer ..if it was me I'd eliminate the control box... It's quick and ez to check a transformers output with your volt meter they usually have only two output wires some have more wires for dual or more outputs of any voltage. Do that before you melt and I'll go for a ride ASAP when it's trisized.... Now if and when that happens and you find yourself panting like compass first thing to do is to check if the compressor is anygood by using the voltmeter leads attached to the compressor terminal's itself and that will save you a lot of wasted time.. you should have continuity between the three terminals two at a time and each of the three terminals check for shorts to the steel body of the compressor at any point one at a time no matter how many terminals it has.. The voltmeter needle should not move when checking for grounds and it should move when checking continuity .. If that is the scenario than it's time for more thickener in the epoxy and throw a Kool party for sv basik before she melts away or you. Compass said he is gonna monitor the temp by his new Rolex he just bought to go with the sister ship of his to Kaori...and so he won't be late for the party Emma's throwing on Kaori afterwards ... He said there is all the free music ..cigars ..old tires and tubes to eat and all the finest wine from France plus to catch up on.... Teal will be ok .. it's a good thing he doesn't need too much thickened epoxy in the midst.. compass just might start drinking and that's not good for doggies who race cars and chase them round and round.. he has another race coming up in Canada and can't wait to get the party ⭐ ted.... After all he is the star and gives Linh a ride to her movie set every day and smiles for all the cameras taking pictures of Linh and is available for autographs with his Kool shades on and that new Rolex which reads direction too..compass says he is no elderly mobiler and can always be found with a mysterious drink in hand.. i want to know where I'm going and ride like the wind and sail like the wind like that compass...what a doggie .. he and Emma are two lucky likety splitters that are hard to keep up with when they go for a ride to a party

I was trying to figure out why I had a reaction to another haulout of a boat I have no interest in. It occured to me that there are thousands that watch this channel that think this level of boat maintenance is required. This impacts other boaters by association. If you don't know anything about boating and maintenance I want to assure you that you do not need to do everything this family does to their boat in the timelines they do them. You certainly can if you chose but the expense and materials can be extended between haulouts every 2-3 years depending on locale.. This is their thing and how they make a living. Having been a long time viewer I was just so happy to see Basik travel. So don't be afraid to get into boating. It isn't necessarily like this. It's quite fun and relaxing which is what they are now showing by cruising. I'm not trying to offend you Teal and Linh. You are just at another level.
@OnboardLifestyle2 жыл бұрын
I think anybody that owns a boat will have their idea of maintenance on their boat. We knew this was a bit premature for a haulout, but after Teal inspected our saildrives, we knew we could try to extend it and risk damage or be proactive and get more paint on them. Our bottom was in great shape so that wasn't this issue. It was the fact that we didn't put enough paint on our saildrives. If you remember, when we were in Washington, we didn't haulout for 9 years. There are other factors as well since there are only a few haulout facilities that can accommodate our vessel since our beam is 25'. It is either haulout now or wait until we reach the top of the Sea of Cortez to find another facility. Trust us that we don't really enjoy the expense and hardwork on the hard. We would much rather be cruising to somewhere fun. We appreciate your comment though. Cheers

@@OnboardLifestyle Thanks Linh, I understand. The saildrives did need paint. I get it. You are the premiere family cruising channel. I am and always will be a huge supporter. The boat sale market is being effected by the economy now and will get worse. I wanted to point out that there are various theories and methodologies to boat maintenance. The Basik team is second to none on maintenance. Enjoy your trip. See you next week.

Two thoughts occur to me around 8:30: shipping or retracting the props mechanisms would reduce corrosion and maintenance and a "crawler," similar to the type I've seen crawling on and cleaning passenger jets and high-rise windows, could clean the hull once a week in warm waters...kinda like a Roomba with suction-cups and computer-controlled to learn it's cleaning area plus with a camera so you can check it's work. Edit: Are barnacles dissolvable in vinegar, saving all that scraping?

It's surprising to the landlubber in me how much abrasion there is on the saildrives.
@OnboardLifestyle2 жыл бұрын
That is because the sail drives are made from aluminum and require a different type of antifouling paint. We use a hard scrubbable paint for the hull that has copper in it. Since aluminum is the sacrificial metal to copper, the sail drives would dissolve if we painted them with it. The paint we use for the sail drives is a copper free ablative paint that is designed to sluff off over time. The sluffing makes it difficult for the barnacles to attach but must be applied more frequently.

The problem with a sail drive that pulls water in internally is that you can not put a barrier coat inside and it will rot from the inside out . I like when it is a separate water intake .
@OnboardLifestyle2 жыл бұрын
That is exactly what we did. We did a bypass of our saildrive intake and have a designated water intake for them. Still have the issue of no barrier for the intake, but we try to do what we can. We sprayed the Trilux inside. It's not enough, but every bit helps.

Well... How is the party goin teal .u must have 101 plus 1 more things to do with Linh in full thickened epoxy mode... Poor Emma is sitting in air cond splender just thinking about how lucky she is and is probably gonna be late to the party .. but with all that swimming and outtake food to eat crammed in between studying and practicing or at least listening to those classical pieces with 🎻 in em she is probly to tired to work..sail drive looked scary teal....did u put alot of paint on it B4 or did I miss something last time you dry docked.. and how did my ship develop a blister.. compass wants to know and doesn't want to stress about ... The sail drives did come out lookin good though..and your little stumble teal was not quite but just about as hilarious as that stumble with the disappearing dingy that Linh and Emma played on you.. u musta bleeped a bunch out for us..hope by now u are on the down hill leg of the project.. I got to admit it Linh you got me stressed about the party when you told teal to woa basik there and then it looked like the rudders were going to come in contact with the dock and then to really add some anxiety teal to a shot of those tires and that was enough . I was holding my breath while waiting to see it set up.. you were probably wondering about that time how strong the blocks were they were using........ Anything else teal...what was the invalid joke Dr Linh said not to return as Linh was serious and probably was gonna make you walk the plank teal if so ....so I am impressed how you just shrugged that all off and started your project... How are those ribs..She certainly looks good now from last time... Compass says it looks great and gives it two doggy paws up..says he likes it so much more and is gonna be sea sick he thinks when back on board..but went back to his new sailboat he purchased after Monaco's easy victory... Remember how he bought it well here's the real story how that happened..as he was standing on the stone wall over looking the harbor catching his breath from the race he saw what looked like to be Kaori at the end of the anchorages and it had a sign of some kind on it that he couldn't read so he fumbled around in his fur coat lookin for his binoculars among his favorite compasses to read what the sign said and couldn't believe his eyes it was for sale... Man did he ever dog paddle over to there so quick he thought he was running on the water and looked to make sure his golden crown still had that large gemstone clearer than a diamond in it and traded it for what turned out to be the sister ship of Kaori.... They traded straight across and as he was just kicking it paddling back thinkin just how cool that sailboat was he almost got run over by the real Kaori coming in to ⚓... They didn't see him and he barked and barked but had to dive down and as he dove he saw two glowing stones through the reflection of the ships shadow that glowed a beautiful teal color and added it to his purse from the race and caught up to Kaori and asked if it might be for sale and was told that they were holding it for someone named Emma and that they were promised to sell it to her for a teal colored gemstone .. he new he hit the jackpot and on the spot Emma got Kaori and Linh and teal got sv basik built 3 times larger from all the other gemstones and everyone was happy 😊 ... Esp compass and sv basik so much they even had a party after all that celebrated Linhs new role in her part of the new James bond movie as the most beautiful villain ever seen in a 007 thriller... None of us will be late for that party as compass and sv basik will sail it away with us onboard for another's destination in paradise... Now compass thanks his lucky stars with a cigar made from vintage Ferrari rubber as he sits at sv basils helm... And he and sv basik keep the party floating...who knows teal might even be adding on wings to sv basik this time....and make a race out of it between the three... I think I'll be betting on a three way tie somehow and spend the money on the ⛵ of my dreams... Compass says splash down and turn up the 🎵 , it's time to dance on a mega yacht.. Emma's going to supply the music for us from now on every week.... And compass well bless his heart he almost picked up both megayachts for one stone ...he is ever so much the opportunist...cheers Linh, you can decompress now.... compass saved you a large vintage bottle of french wine or two as a chaser
