I think labels are afraid of the sophomore album not doing as well as the debut. So they delay to kind of build hype but then it's never clear on when the perfect time to release is because the music industry changes every hour. What's hot now won't be hot tomorrow. I can imagine an artist recording an RnB album and then a bigger artist releases an electro-funk album which rocks the industry now they have to switch up or get left behind.

@@peanuthead5280 money. It’s what makes all their decisions. It's nice to get a full album from an artist. It's like each song is a chapter and the album as a whole tells a more in-depth story. While it's nice to be able to get a one-off song from an artist you like, there's no replacement for a good album. But, it seems to me like that's another layer of talent that not all artists have. It has to take a lot of planning, inspiration, and vision to decide what you want the story of the album to be. But when an artist gets it right, it's AMAZING! I can remember whole periods of my life in detail based on whose album I was listening to at the time (Good Kid, Mad City, The Miseducation of Lauren Hill, etc) And to this day, I'll listen to these WHOLE albums, not just a couple of singles or a song I added to a playlist. I really hope the industry doesn't abandon albums.

I like the concept of a physical album.. I get it doesn’t make them much money anymore but idk it becomes a special possession that you can collect and keep. But I also see the artist side where they just wanna release the darn song rather wait until a full album is complete. I know I would find it a bit annoying if I had to wait a year or two to show anyone a painting I made, so I got Ariana’s point on that. Sometimes I wish Azelea would just calm herself a little just so her music can be the focus for once rather than whoever she’s dissing. I feel like most artist who base their career on just talking smack about everyone rarely make long term cause they’re just burning bridges all the time (for example the Game). I have a theory on sza… I def think she was taking her time at first and living. She’s a true writer and probs needed experiences to write abt. I believe it was ready and turned in by summer bc she had hella fall festivals lined up for promo before a possible tour… I think what stopped it was punch/tde mostly bc they don’t want to let her go so soon. Kendrick is already gone from TDE and they know they can’t replace sza that easy. They’re holding onto it and sza is probs over it by now lol For cardi I think life literally just happened. She literally had 2 babies, at least 2 lawsuits, marriage drama, movie roles and brand deals. I honestly wouldn’t have been surprised if Meg took the same route bc of the insane schedule she had and lawsuits, but she needed to end her deal BAD. Cardi will come when when has the time. Don’t think it’s done tho. I honestly like the single era bc it allows artists to make completely diff sounds and each song can be a moment. Rosalía does it PERFECTLY. That era before motomami with so many diff sounds and visuals were great to witness as a new fan. I’d love Miley or Lil Nas X to do this bc they’re so versatile. Also, some artists aren’t creative enough or have enough to say for an album. They really just need enough music for a tour lol

Exactly this. The longer she’s been in the industry (even though she doesn’t really contribute anything) it’s more evident that she’s not concerned about rap - and I know she admitted that lol but damn I wish more people cared about how problematic that is - “her” music has just gotten progressively worse imo. Nobody’s expecting another hit like “Bodak Yellow,” but the only songs she’s in that are memorable off the top I think to most of us are maybe “Motorsport,” “I Like It,” “WAP”, “Money,” possibly “Up”… and two of those were collabs with huge names. It just seems like she isn’t interested until she needs money again and like you said, her own drama dims the potential for the music to do well. Normani comes to mind with “Wild Side,” poor girl lol I liked that song even Cardi’s feature but she intentionally tried to destroy the song which is so sad to me bc it wasn’t her song. She doesn’t seem to care about how her antics affect people around her thought which has cost her a lottttt of fans. But you’re right - people will show up to the circus At least once.

This was a cool video, and yes it seems like I don't know any current/more recent male artists (within 5 years) stuck w/1 album. It seems to me that streaming has truly skewed the landscape with the flood of disposable music. This makes it so hard to decipher what music is part of a specific project or era. I don't know if it is a reflection of the current time or if labels have just become sloppy with the treatment of mainstream artists. I wish that labels and artists could get back to basics, restoring much-needed A&R and cohesive artist development to create artists with longevity. Better yet, I think that the mainstream should take a look at artists within the House music genre. Many of them have had productively sustaining careers spanning decades consisting of not only great music and remixes released at a reasonable frequency while maintaining relevance and visibility worldwide. The vast majority of these artists are independent, some with stellar management and distribution that keeps the entire engine (artist) running through all trends of economy/industry.
@naomi.cannibal

Now don’t do that. Cardi actually had enough talent to get her noticed to begin with. Yes her social media personality may have helped her but she isn’t completely talentless. On her earlier songs which people love to conveniently forget, she had great lyricism. Her mixtapes are bomb asf. It is nothing but her bc she was nowhere near able to afford writers and her ex was stealing her money and beating tf out of her. She primarily hit trouble bc when she signed with bigger labels they thought she was too hood. She needs help from Pardi bc as a writer, he has the elements of versatility. He can write from both female and male perspectives. Cardi is very hood specific and even with all the vixen talk that woman is not the super freak she portrays in her music. She, unlike many others, is not untalented, she just didn’t know how to change her image so she was forced to find adhere to the alternate. Having someone else do it for her

She ruined any chance she had left with the public after Anna Wintour. Unfortunately she’ll only be a pioneer for future artists to succeed, and hopefully one day she’ll be able to receive her flowers for her contribution. She’s such a talented artist it’s a shame she didn’t get the chance to showcase that before the shenanigans started.

continued: Seems like the reason some album's are declining is cuz of the places we go to listen to music. Like Spotify, Apple, I Tunes. Why would you wanna wait to drop a album..?? I truly hope Normani drops a album soon. Cuz she got mad talent but doesn't seem to be doing anything with it. What going on..?? Wildside was so great. The choreography, beat & collaboration. Loved it.
