Floyd's style in recent years is associated with an impenetrable defense and point-scoring actions, but in the first half of his career, Mayweather was taking contenders heads off, earning a reputation as a knockout sniper. Today, we’ll revisit the forgotten masterpieces of Pretty Boy Floyd before the fateful hand injury.

The Augustus fight really was special. I’m old enough now that having people see that live is pretty rare but I remember how intense it was . Floyd clearly understood Augustus was knocking him out. And it’s one of the rare times where Gabe recognized game Floyd appreciated Augustus’ talent and rather than take the points he gave him a brawl. Floyd really had no business exchanging anyone the 3rd round like that he could easily just pop and move all night but wanted to trade in the pocket for experience. I’ve actually never seen Floyd plant his feet and legitimately miss that much in his entire career . Money pre hand was a monster. Even all the way up to Hatton. Older boxing fans can separate his runs and it makes it really easy to appreciate his greatness even with the later heavy defensive style

Pretty Boy was much smaller and Money Mayweather was much smarter, more polished. Pretty Boy was phenomenal but he would overextend on his punches at times and be a little wild, whereas Money Mayweather was more compact, efficient and managed fights better. Pretty Boy was faster and looked to knock opponents out. I think the perfect balance of the two was when Floyd fought Marquez in 2009

Hernandez was a good boxer, but he didn't pass anything to Floyed Mayweather Jr. Mayweather Jr is from boxing royalty and has earned his credits by his own hands just like Hernandez earned his, any other credits are the results of the genetics of his father and the teachings of his uncles and hard work in the gym. To say someone had to hand down or pass down a blessing is disrespect to Mayweather meaning he couldn't have gotten to this level without a blessing from Hernandez or as if he somehow needed Hernandezs's approval when it was clear from watching the fight Hernandez wasn't even a test for the skills of Mayweather Jr. Let's not get it twisted, what you saw there at the end of the fight was Hernandez rightful recognizing the new face and the future of boxing and showing respect and acceptance to that face which was Floyed Mayweather JR not some sort of changing of the guard and handing off of the torch of boxing. 🤨🤨🤨

You have to remember as well, that Floyd also developed the issue of brittle hands early in his career. He had to be conservative in his offense to prevent breaking his hands. Floyd Definitely would have more finishes in his career, had his hands not been more prone to breaking.

@@TylerHingleton the guy has been convicted for beating women. @TylerHingleton

@defragsbin Do you have proof that he beat women or just hearsay? He took a plea deal, and that doesn't automatically mean admission of guilt. When he moves up in weight - light middleweight opponents are 24 pounds heavier. 24. They will just be harder to knock out. Always always always been a fan of Floyd.. He’s the reason I started watching boxing and loved it so much. I never got to watch ‘pretty boy’ Floyd and his offensive onslaught, I’m a ‘95 baby. It’s hard to critique a 50-0, perfect career BUT I wish he was more forward pressing, aggressively offensive throughout his career. He is a master of boxing, movement & speed. If he was a bit more aggressively offensive & less defensively, counter attacking, he would be cemented as *the* greatest boxer of all time, no questions.

It’s really unfortunate that his hands were breaking because of the power he put in his punches. But to me, how he adjusted and still win is what makes him TBE

I can see why he went undefeated clearly the best boxer I've seen. Sad to see the arrogant side. It spoils any. I'm not going to criticize it though. I have never had that ability to dominate or that much many. So he lost that challenge not to be arragont. He is magnificent for paying the funeral and families of his former opponents. A prince of a thing to do.

@@neilfoss8406 Bro, it doesn't matter how a black fighter carries himself, whether he's humble or boastful. Here in AmeriKKKa, is where they'll root for a foreigner over a fellow countryman, and we all know the reason why. I remember all the racist comments leading up to the Ward vs Kovalev fight, for example, and the former was always a class act in and outside of the ring. Even Dre called out the undercover bigots in the conference room after stopping Sergey in their rematch, by saying "I see alot of sad faces in here tonight" lol

The arrogance is there, but it was mostly a show to sell fights. And guess what...it worked. Floyd is naturally a giving and caring person. He used the "Money Mayweather" image to capitalize on the hate it would cause. People hated him so much, they paid whatever to see him lose. To this day, it bothers most casuals
