The soup really deserves more mention....none of the competition can even come close. Simple things done well.

The original husband and wife team cooked the noodle at a corner Shophouse at New Bridge Road. They moved to a stall at High Street Center. The old couple then passed away. The next generation continues with the noodle but they have not attained the high standard.

I’m not sure how they do it, but I think it has something to do with that black vinegar, no matter where else I try minced pork noodles, I can never get that same taste anywhere. And I’ve been eating here since I was in primary school in the 70’s at hill street till army days in 80-90’s at Marina Sq till working life at Crawford.

Hey Greg. Travelling to Singapore in February from Canada and was looking to to try the best fried hokkien mee. any suggestions ?
@lucaslow75905 жыл бұрын
Been a hokkien mee lover, i would recommend hokkien mee at ABC food market hokkien mee located at jalan bukit merah #01-13 (yi sheng fried hokkien mee). Or there is another store one with a big wok hei taste it is situated at 5 lorong 29 geylang (swee guan hokkien mee)
@choonkeonglim61785 жыл бұрын
Yi sheng for the win!!
@braintransplantdonor5 жыл бұрын
Dave, you could do worse than try Yong Huat, at AlibabaR Hawker Bar (near the corner of East Coast Rd and Joo Chiat Rd) or Geylang Lorong 29 Hokkien Mee (farther east on East Coast Rd than AlibabaR). The guy who runs this stall is the brother of the one who does Swee Guan hokkien mee, which is actually situated in Lorong 29 at Geylang. Yong Huat is a 'wetter' dish than Lorong 29's offering so I suppose it depends which style you prefer. Personally, I'd eat both of them. Nam Sing at Old Airport Rd used to have a good reputation but I hear it's gone downhill over the past year or two.
@@Newfoundtravel - try both! They're only 10 minutes apart by bus! :o)

I may be shooting myself in the foot here, because if you feature it the stall may get more popular than it already is, and with it comes longer queues and all the usual woes... but for BCM, have you tried Ah Ter at Amoy? Their version is slightly differently from the typical, but the broth is THE best I've had anywhere and there's a fantastic balance to the sauce in the noodles that I've not found anywhere else. Give it a go.
@GregoryLeow3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve reviewed them before. (Written review) They’re in my top 10 list for Bcm! I’ll do a video review one day
@pourquoipa53 жыл бұрын
@@GregoryLeow Haha came back just to edit my earlier comment as I was googling for Ah Ter (trying to figure out what goes into the noodle sauce so I can do a DIY version in London) - and then found your article so was about to say "never mind". But you're fast with your replies :D If/when you do the video for Ah Ter, pleeease can you talk a bit about the sauce? Loving your detailed reviews. Thank you!

why u reveal the secret of the number system. i love this due to the liver (getting very hard to find good BCM with liver) and the vinegary taste. Yummy! but I won't queue more than 1 hour for this.
@pourquoipa53 жыл бұрын
Ah Ter at Amoy still does BCM with liver and it's DELICIOUS.

Yes I totally agree!! At redhill hawker center there is this bak chor mee stall. Uses same ingredients by two cooks. In the morning done by the owner, super nice. When switched over to the other guy, total opposite. Taste so horrible.
