I think JB is the way to go. Buy once cry once. Everything I've read says these guys have the best fabric in the industry plus the lighter weight and aerodynamics beat the traditional brick rtt's.

The RRT I I tried out had a vinyl cover that billowed in the wind something fierce. Not a fan of that cover.

James Baroud tent weight is 65kg Alucab Aluminium tent weight is 80kg I wouldn’t be say 65kg is SUPER LIGHT compared to 80kg. It’s roughly 19% lighter, but the alucab tent has USB power inside to charge your devices, power lights and fans etc. they are also more durable, for people doing off-roading driving through tree branches etc.

Not gonna talk about durability but the James Boroud tents also have USB power to charge stuff. And a solar fan etc.

Was a nice tent, but QT apparently has dropped off recently, leaking fans, bubbles in fiberglass shell cracking, solar panel stoped functioning & warranty coverage has been reduced from 5 years to 2.

Wow!! Just getting back into camping and boy how things have changed...Thanks for the awesome review! Going to have to make a point to hit sema next year! Would love a rooftop tent, but they might be out of my price range. Any recommendations for a good quality roof tent or a quality ground SUV tent? I have a Honda CRV.

You can get a cheaper roof top tent like any of the side folding ones. They aren't as aerodynamic and light as the fiberglass popups but they are less expensive and often offer more headroom and expand bigger. I've seen some companies sell side popup tents for $1500 like CVT. They even sell trade ins because people trade in their tents for upgrades.

Since you also mentioned a quality ground tent, recommend you check out the REI Kingdom 4/6/8 series tents. A LOT less expensive, and would be a good car camping tent, in my opinion.

I like Napier tents that attach to vehicles if I camp on the ground.

How do these tents perform if its very windy. I cant imagine they are very secure. Its going to completely catch the wind as its so high.
