It's called a strut brace. It connects the front two strut towers and makes the chassis more rigid for better handling.

Any mechanical issues that you've had to lookout for? Have u had to take it to the BMW dealership yet or nothing major...? (Looking at a Z3 w/ 88k miles, might buy tbh issa classic 🔥)

No these motors are known to be one of the most reliable engines ever made by bmw. Some are known to surpass 300k miles without issues. Like any other bmw you will have to take care of the entire cooling system at around 100k miles or when you see signs of coolant leaks. You will also have to fix the oil leaks which appear with time and age. Valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, oil pan and rear main seal being the main culprits. I only took it to the shop once to refresh the entire front suspension. No mechanical breakdowns yet. Make sure you’re buying a 6 cylinder with manual transmission.

They're still cheap in USA, but there's signs of prices going up, specially the bigger engine models.
