@@nathaliewade752 As having been a long time, Hunter, Outdoorsman, LEO and specialty series Bullet Inventor for Hunting and Wilderness Protection from Apex predators, I do know that Bear Spray, is considerably less effective than Firearms are. In Alaska, a US Army Soldier, SSG Seth Michael Plant, was just recently killed,(RIP) while conducting Military training, after he sprayed a Bear with Bear Spray. In April 2021, in Yellowstone, an Outdoors Fishing Guide, Mr. Charles Carl Mock,(RIP) was also killed after using Bear Spray. Having both, Bear Spray, a capable Firearm and a Powerful Flashlight is the best way to go with. In the USA, the best, most effective, "Personal Safety Device", is a, "Handgun", a, Pistol or a, Revolver loaded with, "Flat Nosed bullets", that are made of "Hard Cast Lead" or "Solid Copper". Both Underwood and Buffalo Bore Ammunition companies offer such specialty ammunition. The minimum suggested caliber is, 9mm. The 40 and 10mm calibers are a better choice. In Revolvers, 44 Special 45 ACP or 45 Colt, or the 357,41, 44, 45 magnum calibers. One study concluded that capable Handguns are 97% effective against Bear attacks. You do have to train, practice with your wilderness carry Handgun and know where the Vital areas to aim for are. A capable Handgun is very practical and easily maneuverable, such can be a lifesaver.

What is sad and led to this, is Canada's terrible Firearms Laws. As in the USA where law-abiding people can often generally carry a capable handgun for Wilderness Protection, in most places, in Canada such is generally not allowed. The American Trucker had to retrieve a Rifle from his Truck, which took critical time. As had someone been carrying a capable handgun, they could have shot the marauding bear a lot sooner and very well have saved lives and serious injuries.

I hope anyone else who was injured made it thru ok. That kid had such a generous spirit. To make sure people remembered that the bear was hungry and being a bear. No malice. These attacks will get worse and more frequent the more we spread out and crowd them. For the record the park is in the wilderness/forest and the area was well known for its black bears. So if you're in area without physical boundaries(between you the wildlife), at the least bear spray is a necessity. The "it would never happen to me" mentality has claimed lots of victims. And I'm not being critical of victims, bear attacks were and still are rare, I'm stressing the need for vigilance, to prevent horrific occurances like this from happening to someone else.

We parked & followed the crowd until we came upon a.drunkman feeding a bear popcorn. The bear seemed engaged. Then the man decided itd be cute I guess to tease big guy and off er then pull back popcorn. The bear went to aggressive and HUGE in a matter of seconds. It got on its hind legs and roared.then swatted at drunk man with popcorn. Then being dummies everyone ran. The bear gave chase inan instant. I never want to see another bear that's not in the zoo .

It was a black bear and ive lived in the back country most of my life and this is not new info to me but my ex city person wife is freaked out. Oh well she had to know it she would never have listened to me without your show. We live in Arizona and have had to deal with five grown black bears and three cubs. We can not let our guard down when we live in the bush. People in the town have complained about bears in their yards. I care more about people and pets more than aggressive bears. I read a book about bears by a bear researcher in Canada who researched bear attacks and found that black bears are the ones who eat humans. Grizzleys usually don't eat people .

Once a bear has already initiated an attack, then the chances of bear spray stopping it are slim to none. Bear spray is not really ideal. It works on bears that a curious or that you have startled but an attacking bear is different. Bears are very much like a pitbull when they attack, once the attack has started then you can inflict incredible amounts of damage to the animal and it will only make it fight harder.

Whether we are in the water, the desert, the mountains, or the forest, we are in other animals homes and we should respect their homes. Carry maze, or a defensive weapon to counter any attacks. Research and learn what to do in case of attacks in these animals habitats. It is their home and their way of life. People learn the hard way, but we can learn from there mistakes. RIP for the two who lost their lives. This kid is correct not to hold it against the bear, the bear was in his home doing what bears do in their habitat. Jeffery Epstein: Truthfully well said. You are experienced and wise. Yes, indeed, Handguns with capable Flat Nose Hard metal Bullets are very effective on attacking Bears. As you know that a Handgun, has a very fast retrieval time, which is a critical requirement with Bear attacks. The Danish Navy's SIRIUS Sled Patrol carries a Glock Model 20 in 10mm caliber for putting down Polar Bears. In Canada, even for persons, in Approved Wilderness Professions, it is extremely difficult to obtain a Canadian Authorization To Carry (ATC) a Handgun. I am glad that I have American citizenship, having been an American LEO, I know about Canadian firearms laws, which are terrible and pose a danger. @@MrHrKaidoOjamaaVKJV I'm not a fan of the 10mm for big bears. No doubt you might be able to get a couple more rounds off but the muzzle energy is closer to that of .357 magnum. The benefit of a handgun is that one is more apt to have it on them - at the ready. I prefer a revolver of .454 Casul or larger for brown bears. However, a large caliber rifle reigns supreme. I concur with your sentiments regarding Canada.
@MrHrKaidoOjamaaVKJV

@@j.michaelepstein8958 To each their own. The 454 Casull, is an awesome effective cartridge! As a speciality bullet series inventor with many years in military and civil Law-enforcement as well as Hunting, I concour with you that a Handgun is right there convenient and I will add, that a Handgun is generally allot easier to manover and employ that a Rifle is I've done my "homework". I also know that the 10mm is fully capable to put down Brown and Polar Ice Bear. I've discussed the multiable put downs of Grizzley Bear with the use of the 10 mm caliber pistols with multiable technicians at Underwood and Buffalo Bore Ammunition companies. The Danish Navy's SIRIUS Patrol carry a Glock model 20 pistol in 10mm to put down Polar/ Ice Bear if necessary. I like the 44 magnum as well. The 454 Casull, interests me one day I will closely look at a 454 Casull revolver either a Ruger or a Taurus. Handguns are known to generally be 97% effective against attacking Bears. Years ago, on several occasions, I herd from several of the State of Maine's Environmental Police , who told me of multiable International Incidents, where members of the Canadian RCMP would deliberately, purposely in a hostile menacing manner, illegaly cross over the border onto the US side and threaten, point their pistols and shotguns at the Maine State wildlife Officers. These provocations occoured frequently. Now the Canadian Border Officers, can check people's Cell Phones. Canadan Border Officers seem to take glee at maliciously targeting Americans. Canada, is not a good friendly neighbor as is falsely portrayed. The image of the so called "Peaceful , Friendly" Canadian is a Facade, a big lie. That's why many of us, in the know, we say, that It's best for Americans to totally avoid going into the intrusive Police State of Canada. Wishing you, safe adventures and journeys.

@@MrHrKaidoOjamaaVKJV BTW, I advocated the .454 as a minimum but have carried a .500 Smith & Wesson 4-inch for bear defense since it was first introduced. I was tight with a Alaskan wildlife trooper who put down a few problem bears over his career with a 5.56 (AR platform) using steel core bullets- that wouldn't have been my first choice but he swore by it. One day last September, I hiked over 16 miles (round-trip) in a bear-rich environment to a plane crash site. I comfortably carried a Henry 45-70 with the .500 as backup.
