naaah~ it can't be that simple. i mean, come on: Luffy most likely said the same thing to Sabo and Ace and both groups know their dream was to be the best pirate groups of all so having the "I want to be Pirate King" be the thing that is not told to the audience seems silly. heck, Roger already said he wants to be the Greatest Pirate Crew, so why would the thing we don't hear just be an extension of that??? nah~ it has to be something more meaningful to a bunch of adventurous lads like Roger and Luffy, who don't seem to want to rule anything.

My personal theory for what Roger said is that instead of taking whatever treasure lies at the last island (which is the one piece which no one would've known about until after Roger's death), he would leave it there and instead tell the world about it and create the biggest treasure hunt the world has ever seen (the great pirate era). As for the exact reason why he would do that maybe he wanted to inspire future generations to experience the kind of adventure he did or maybe something else, I don't really know.
