It sounds to me like SR is basically a stealth, ninja like operative that gathers intel using technology and integrating themselves behind enemy lines. So if an SR sees combat its probably because they got exposed or ambushed but I assume those are rarety cases.

If ya wanna do recon and be in combat, the Marines have a job for you. I'd prefer recon that keeps other soldiers/airmen out of combat or as prepared as possible to go into combat on their terms. I think SR, similar to when they were SOWT, will still have some identity issues when it comes to their opcon utilization. The job just has a broad scope description.. Their STO/CRO should have an idea of what his team needs, send the SR to appropriate schools/training for that employment, and have him exercise that expertise. But it may be wildly different than another STO/CRO desired usage for the team. Either way, the fact that you are intel oriented and potentially doing long range engagement, demolitions, uav flying, and cyber means you're gonna be useful to someone somewhere in SOCOM if you're constantly learning/training in even one of those skills.

@@pathfinder9071 Depends. Theyre both viable options for combat and recon. I'm just bias as a prior Navy HM that was going for SARC. But, Rangers are better funded as they're actually part of SOCOM vs Force Recon simply being an optimized Marine before you get picked up by MARSOC. My last neighbor was an Army Sniper that the Army sent around internationally for competitions, and I asked him about his opinion on the best shooters. He said Rangers were consistently the best overall, but Marines that also stood out were usually Recon/MARSOC. Your name also makes me think of other Army options such as calvary scout and pathfinder. Alongside the fact that most everyone can attend the same schools/training and it really is just how SOCOM and your service want to employ you that determines the biggest differences these days.

@@Flowmada I used to be so torn between every SOF job then I realized Ranger is pretty much the way to go for everything besides quality of life. Unless you wanna do boat shit or teach the enemy how to kill you, rangers the way to go. Way more hands on experience i feel like.

I really appreciate how much info you guys put out there. AFSOC doesn't get nearly enough recognition for what they do, but maybe that's good since it means you guys don't have the SEAL New York Times bestseller syndrome. One question though, which AFSOC career on average sees the most trigger time with the teams they are deployed with?

Can you explain what you mean by ‘trigger time’? I’m assuming you mean ‘how much action/cool guy deployment things’, but maybe you just mean time deployed? We’ve answered this question a lot; PJ/CCT see a lot, SR is pretty new, but honestly it all depends. Luck of the draw, deployment cycles, different areas- lots of variables. - A

Seeing how small drones are changing warfare in Ukraine perhaps SR will heavily incorporate the use of all types of small drones to gather intel far forward and even precision drone strikes with mini drone swarms, like doing what an MQ9 does cheaper and with less collateral damage. Attached to bigger elements or other special warfare units I can see a situational awareness role during engagements using small drone overwatch and even limited CAS, easily flanking from above. Combined with CCT and traditional air assets it would be pretty damn lethal and extra elite shooters is always a plus. Ukraine is doing it now with simple drones dropping dumb grenades. With U.S. JSOC budgets and tech the possibilities are endless.

Okay... it sounds FINE not to be known about. Yes, even if it means not getting "glory" for some hard work.The job is satisfactory in and of itself. It's just safer that no one knows. Navigating in stealth mode is good.

Such was the case when SOWT became SR , with a renewed purpose, pipeline, doctrine, and mission set for AFSOC Special Tactics, the USSOCOM as a whole, and even United States and Coalition Allied Conventional and Special Operations Forces. NOT having been an Airman, but both as a Marine and also as a Soldier, I cannot qualify to speak for The Service Itself, and, Special Tactics ( PJ, SR, CCT, TACP) in particular, I will say that the transition from Special Operations Military Metrology,to Long Range and Close Target Reconnaissance and ISR Capability, has made the SR Special Warfare Airmen a even more lethal, potent, and capable Elite Entity in U. S. Air Force Special Operations Command.🇺🇸💣💥

Do all AFSOF, attach 2 other Special Operations units, or does like SR, a 4-8 man team, and get them in a spot behind the lines, and then runs the info back, so whatever teams/units move forward already, knowing what all the intel is gonna be, going into the mission. Or are the like CCTs, PJs, that will attach 1 guy 2 1 SOF group? When they had that show about the PJs, that would be back at the barreks, and when someone gets hurt, the PJs, jump into 2 Helos, and go like a ambulance, and go pick up the injured guys, help fix him up as much as possible, until they get them back 2 a hospital? Cuz in that movie, 12 strong, I think it was called, they say 12 Army SF, I think it was 5th group, but they never say that they had 2 CCTS, with the groups. And same as Blackhawk down, I dont remember hearing them ever metenion, the 2 PJs and 1 CCT, that fast ropped off a helicopter, and the 2 PJS did surgery instead the crashed Helo. Or anything about the CCT, that had the little birds, lighting up, the roof tops, wasnt it a CCT, guy that threw one of them flashers on the roof tops, so the small birds would no what roof tops 2 shoot at?

Do CAAs "Combat Avaition Advisors" and their OADs see combat and work with STTs together? You should make another video on them. Also, get an SO-IDMT from SOF-ME into the podcast. They are AFSOC.

No, they do not see direct action. CAA’s are there to provide a specific capability; that capability does not include direct action (combat), and yes, occasionally they work with STTs, but only in very limited scope/opportunity. 2- we are trying to get a SOFME team member on- and yup, we are aware they’re AFSOC. - A

I think tomorrow's war is going to be a lot more SpecOps type operations, so the SPECOPS community is trying to expand their reach in recruitment. So in the future it doesn't matter what branch you join, you will have the opportunity to join SPECOPS.

Is it fair to say that SR's "operate in the shadows"? How are you gonna do effective recon if you're spotted. What sounds coolest to me is getting deployed to a conflict zone without ever being seen. Not even by your own people sometimes. That's what I imagine it's like anyway.
