This day in the Philippines was surley something unexpected! We headed to Muñoz, Nueva Ecija to try something special. A first of its kind ice cream in the Philippines (in the whole world) - TILAPIA Ice cream!
Although we know it was something developed in the Central Luzon State University, we didn't expect to actually end up there!
So besides trying something unique I ended up having my first ever Philippines University tour. It was definitely not how I imagined local universities to be!

Actually, My Friend's Uncle who is a CLSU Presdent (now retired) developed this Tilapia Ice Cream. His Uncle was a professor at the School for a long time due to his Father(Granduncle) who had been President for a long time.

Yeah, provincial universities are typically quite pretty and large. It's similar in other places like UP Los Baños or Central Mindanao University.

It was so interesting to experience. I've only seen similar in movies based on universities in the US. This way of campus life is not a thing in Europe! When I studied in my University back in Hungary I had to take the bus and go yo a completely different area of the city yo reach another building.

@@SusieinthePhilippinesThe funny thing is that they are actually modeled after American university campuses. Most of the provincial (usually agricultural-focused) universities were built during the American colonial period.

You should've visited Milka Krem. It's near the Philippine Carabao Center, just a few minutes away from CLSU. You'll be able to try yema tarts, pulvoron, pastillas, and fresh milk and other milk products!

Most agricultural based state universities in the Philippines are where the Department of Agriculture do their researches. CLSU have academic section which takes care of the higher education, and non-academic sections which takes care of research, business development and trainings.

sprawling campuses are perhaps more common in the Philippines compared to other countries but there are also many that are just collections of buildings in the city.

@@SusieinthePhilippines Some seve (7) years ago I accompanied my daughter during her school field trip right there at the Philippine Carabao Center where you visited and situated within the vicinity was a “Milka Krem” outlet. We bought at the outlet some pasalubong like yogurt, white cheese (kesong puti or quesillo), pastillas de leche and pulvoron all made from carabao’s milk. Saraaaaaaaap!!!

I graduated last year from CLSU but I've never tasted the tilapia ice cream 'cuz the smell traumatized me when we were doing an experiment, they are processing the tilapia into ice cream next to our lab room😵‍💫 We also used to help clean the pond where the tilapias are, it's a requirement for one of our courses (CWTS)😅

Tilapia seems won't go well as an ice cream. But I haven't tried so I can't put my comment on it. Since you said there is no tilapia taste, so maybe it is good. The name is deceiving. It's like the sili ice cream in Bicol. CLSU looks much better than U.P.. U.P. has squatters area makes the University so crappy looking. Eating all the calorie laden foods doesn't affect your weight.
