This interior designer is the worst sort of designer - the moment she started pushing her own ideas without really listening to the client shows it. Her design in the other episode made a small space feel even more claustrophobic. And anyone who uses “squishy” as a descriptive in a professional setting is also a red flag.

@westaussieeggs88672 жыл бұрын
Yes, that was entirely unnecessary. Yes, the house should be emptied and than the stuff should be selected what can be reused in the new setting. I THINK IT IS NICE TO HAVE A BIT OF A HISTORY in the house, things that have a negative vibe should go but other things that remind you of your long gone loved ones or happy events should stay. There are a number of things that are not mentioned in this episode, one of those is the constant bombardment to reuse, recycle, not to send rubbish to landfill. I also have a bit of a hoarding problem, not as near as what Sylvia has but a problem nevertheless. I am trying to reduce my junk mostly but every time I throw something in the bin I feel enormous amount of guilt and there is always this thought: I might need it again and than I will have to buy it and by the previous action I contribute to pollution, a bit of a catch 22 really.

A designer who has very set ideas about dark and wacky and does not want to listen to her customer, a woman who has developed a hoarding problem due to coercive past relationships and yet is being forced to sell her wedding and engagement rings from the man that did make her happy. And why was she being forced to sell all her nice furniture, and such a lovely big house should be light in colour scheme to make the most of the space. I think that the idea of moving ALL of the hoard to a warehouse is a fantastic idea. It will clearly show the home owner their home empty, as opposed to dangerous clutter. And it displays just how MUCH stuff they actually have accumulated but never use. That is positive, as the home owner will see the potential in their de-cluttered home for once. As for this particular designer, I personally feel that she is not that great a designer; when the program was displaying some of the past things that she had done, I was cringing. So I did worry for this woman. But glad that she was happy in the end, and that is what counts.
@annikatan3782 жыл бұрын
To be very honest, it's quite appalling to see that the interior designer didn't really sit down with her clients to show colour palettes for them to choose & discuss options in order to reach a mutual agreement btwn them. Instead it was all "talk" mostly from the designer mostly with her own vision & style of "comfort living", whilst exploring from one room to the next. Besides, not only was Sylvia not given the opportunity to seek a counselor for help, she was also not given the chance to learn decluttering & organising her stuff on her own: What to not keep (recycling, selling, throwing) & what to keep. Have to consider that sometimes "not knowing what to do with stuff" may also contribute to hoarding habit. Since it is also a blessing to see how determined she was to gain confidence moving forward from her past like depression, I wish I knew how Sylvia is doing now but as a believer of Christ Jesus to understand that there is always a daily battle to keep getting up from falling, may God be with her in every situation.

I get the fact that money had to be made to redesign the areas, but I would've thought that the designer would have taken some of the items that Sylvia had and liked and either built the design around them or incorporated them into the design (other than the chest/cabinet that we hadn't seen before). This is not going to work. The hoarders are traumatized by loss. That's why they surround themselves with inanimate objects, to which they are emotionally attached. It's a kind of bulk which protects them from the brutal world. Contempt will make it all worse. Adding more feelings of loss is going to make it worse. Plus, the "interior designer" is outright rude: I choose my own colours in my own home and do not ask your opinion, thanks.✋ She hides beneath Barbie's hair, but in my humble opinion she is a clot and believes this house should be her's.

This seems like a very misguided attempt at “fixing” a problem that goes much deeper than the stuff. Having someone that finds treasures to sell their things and a posh designer who will come make over their space. Who will “ design rooms that a person will respect and not just fill up again” is basically putting a bandaid on a severed artery. This is kind of insulting. But maybe the folks across the pond aren’t as damaged as we are here in the US. Hoarders have an illness. Not just a clutter problem

I asked a luxury furniture shopw what they might buy back some of hte items I bought from then and it was peanuts compared with what I spent so I kept it (although I have large bare surfaces so no hoarding issue and every one of the makeovers has far too much stuff in it for my liking - I will not even tolerate a house plant never mind loads of them!

The poor interior design gets eaten alive in the comment section. I’m glad the client loved her new space… Although I do agree she had more quality furniture beforehand.

Awful selling that furniture and jewelry for that make-over….very sad. That’s not a criticism of Sylvia but of the programme

As someone who has severe depression. I can relate. I'm trying to break the cycle but its really difficult...And its almost like being a drug addict..you need that high to feel good and when you buy something, you get that high, then move on to the next thing you purchase.. Its such a nasty habit but i'm trying to break it.

Don’t worry u will do that .. u can break from that .. it’s really appreciated that ur thinking to break this step and that like 100 steps forward to your goals .. only thing is we have to be accountable jus figure out a way to be accountable…

Every new thing you bring into the house, remove 5 things permanently. Every morning pick out 5 things that can be donated, given to a friend or thrown away, the deliver it or toss it. 35 thing are gone at the end of the week, 1,825 in a year and without exhaustion. Doing 10 things a day is brilliant.

Sylvia doesn't seem to understand that if she thinks something is worth $1,000 and 200 people who are bidding on it and they say it's worth $150 that she is the one wrong about somethings worth

This lady is the nicest hoarder client I have ever seen in videos. It obvious that she is wise ane very spiritual. Due to her high capacity of introspection, I am sure that she doesn't need much therapy and that she won't hoard anymore. I also think that her house was better before the makeover.

She wouldn’t be rich if she was paying the mortgage on a 7 bedroom house. People can assume that you must have money when you ‘own’ your own home when in reality you can be worse off because you’re paying a large mortgage

I like how cheerful the environment looks and how there is a space for the granddaughter. The only part I don't like is the white colors and the plants, but that could easily be changed. Either way, it is her home so it only matters that she likes it.

I can't understand why this interior designer is so heartless. They don't even listen to the customers. I also find it very inappropriate to clear out a cluttered house and then choose a photo wallpaper with a motif full of clutter in the new concept.
