🔥 20% OFF Star Wars Legion! store.ontablet... 🔥 For the past two weeks, John's been working on an epic AT-AT gaming table to play Star Wars Legion miniatures game on. Check out the end result and make sure to check out the Build Vlogs available now to Backstagers over on www.beastsofwar...
We love how well the AT-AT and the platforms fit in with the forest around it. This really has a strong narrative behind it which brings the table to life.
Turning a toy into a piece of wargaming terrain was a challenge but it’s really paid off in the final result.

The AT-AT is nicely scaled, and I love the extra cables poking through the opened panels. And AT-AT’s are fairly rare when compared to the fleet Imperials had and the size of territory they claimed to rule. They had a large number of them, but had an even larger number of planets to control. A very good job, would love to try out the table!

It's perhaps worth pointing out what makes ATATs rare... The Galactic empire probably has around 50 Million inhabited planets and a population of around 100 Quadrillion beings. The fleet has about 25,000 star destroyers so they are spread quite thin in relation to the size of the territory they try to control. So yeah there may be a lot of them but in real terms they are rare. :)
@darthweezy
@darthweezy 6 жыл бұрын
Star Destroyers weren't the sole means of delivering AT-ATs to planets under control of the Empire. Many of the planetary systems had space stations, most had garrisons, and many had manufacturing facilities. Behind Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters, and Stormtroopers, AT-ATs were the most widely recognized symbol of Imperial might. They were definitely not rare and produced in large numbers due to their versatility on worlds with varied terrain.
@warzanslaboratory5261
@warzanslaboratory5261 6 жыл бұрын
darthweezy Do you have an estimate of numbers?
@darthweezy
@darthweezy 6 жыл бұрын
There doesn't need to be an estimate of numbers, the statement of AT-ATs being rare in the galaxy is incorrect. You assume the number of AT-ATs in the Empire are solely the ones carried on Star Destroyers and this is not true. Lothal had AT-ATs as a standard complement to their garrisons and so did Vardos in Battlefront 2. So did Sullust in Battlefront 1. Do you assume the number of TIE variants in the galaxy are also limited to the ones on a Star Destroyer? If so, an ISD only carries a full wing, which is 72 ships. By your logic, that means there are only 1.8 million, which is a gross underestimate.
@warzanslaboratory5261
@warzanslaboratory5261 6 жыл бұрын
darthweezy I think you should make an estimate because in the wikis it refers to 'hundreds' being produced. You are also deliberately not taking into account the sheer scale of the Galactic empire. It's all relative, yes there may be a lot of them but when set against 50million world's and 100 Quadrillion inhabitants, I think you will find they are quite rare.

I'd think there would be more fire especially in the middle. The AT AT didn't die of old age like an elephant in a graveyard someone killed it with cannon fire and or bombs. All the AT ATs in the movies explode, so its likely there would be a lot of fire. The trees and platforms all around it make it look like it has been there for years and is ancient salvage rather than something that went down last week. If so there could me more rust or corrosion and loads of mud or sand or snow inside it.

Remember the requirements and brief of a piece of gaming terrain will be pretty different from a fixed diorama. :) It's explained in the video why there is a certain neutrality to the weathering to allow it to be used in many environments :)

ehh, no offense but.. If i were gonna do an "ATAT" table, Id first of all not include those "walkways" making it look like a museum .. I also wouldnt have it laying on its side like a dying camel; holes through it with guts sticking out (wires) etc.. Then theres the terrain; it isnt good in its own right but is the only thing saving the walker and vice versa.. I would have used terrain to create a playable atmosphere, gave the walker a more interesting pose with damage effects, etc, have towcable wiring around the legs for a theme.. I know i know, the skys the limit, and its hard work.. but i feel what ive mentioned would be requirements... Great effort though, it still looks cool.. ps. -some walker prints on the ground?! MMM

AT-AT´s are quite rare...... well 20 are stationed on each imperial I or Ii stardestroyer, several thousand stardestroyers around the galaxy, millions of AT-AT around. its just as expendable as a t34. you loose one? you get another 3 to try again

Well timewise it might be after the events of A New Hope or Return of the Jedi while the Empire is reeling from losing a multi trillion credit battlestation. So recovering tech might be worthwhile.
@ColasTeam
@ColasTeam 6 жыл бұрын
He is correct, every Star Destroyer carries 12 of them, but even tho this isn't properly reflected on many of the Star Wars media pieces, Star Destroyers usually operate alone, or in small groups, not huge fleets.
