Drivelapse video of Ontario's Highway 401 starting in Kitchener/Waterloo and progressing easterly to Ajax through Toronto and Mississauga.
This video highlights before footage before a major widening project really gets underway to widen the highway to ten to twelve lanes between Milton and Mississauga.

Nice. I've driven into the GTA three times on the 401 over the past several years. And just like I-45 here in Houston, there's never NOT been any major construction hassle. :-)

absolutely correct and you can compare this to its Northeastern counterpart Interstate 95 Florence. NJ to the Bronx,NY buses and Trucks are dominant from Woodbridge Exit 11 to Secaucus 16e Academy buses NJ Transit 319,115 114 113 & 112 Coach USA 100. 17 years earlier you would have expected the same thing with SARS

It’s also worth noting how easily THE ABSOLUTE WORST/BADDEST/DUMBEST/MOST INCOMPETENT DRIVERS driving slowly nowhere near the far right lane with a whole line of cars riding on their ass is all it takes for traffic flow to START breaking down. But not completely thanks to the obvious situation of the time unfolding the 2nd half of the month of March within the horrible year that was 2020…

Great video, it's nice seeing more big projects underway! So much erratic left-lane-blocking behaviour once you enter the GTA, particularly on the North York section past Keele... I've gotten used to that over time

@@AsphaltPlanet1 good to know someone took very full advantage of the initial Covid wave… everyone cleaning out every grocery store for wiping paper while you see potentially a ONCE. IN. A. LIFETIME. opportunity to tape the Greater Toronto stretch of the 401 with minimal congestion… And even then there’s a whopping CRAP TON of people blocking the left lane, much less “professional” commercial vehicles looking to merge left with a KNEE JERK REACTION because they MIGHT lose literal seconds of time if they stayed in the far right lane before incoming traffic accelerated to the better part of 110 mph. Perhaps some widening projects should be postponed until it’s abundantly clear to most of the entire driving public that being the slowest driver on the highway OUTSIDE OF the far right lane is not only dangerous, but noticeably impacts traffic flow in the most negative possible ways.

I love the way you drove the express lanes of the 401 through Toronto and Pickering which is kinda unique to see. Staying in all 44 kilometers in the express lanes in this video is a thrive. Also, those express lanes bring culture too, right? 😉👍 As for the 9.6 kilometer express lanes through Mississauga, it was under construction in that time and after seeing it's done in September, you drove there in that time which is another video about the 401 from Cambridge to Mississauga you filmed since fall which is a later video than this. Thanks for showing us the 401 again!!! I appreciate that. 😉👍

If you want to see the thrilling express lanes, here are the time stamps: •Through Mississauga (401's km 337 to 347) (Edit: even the construction): 9:38 to 10:50 •Through Toronto and Pickering (401's km 355 to 399): 11:43 to 17:04

The other odd thing about Canada as a whole is that your population is relatively small and you have so much space to spread out - yet everyone crams together in the high-rise complexes of the bigger cities. Is owning your own home very difficult in Canada compared to the US?
@AsphaltPlanet1
@AsphaltPlanet1 4 жыл бұрын
Ontario seems to just prefer a more compact form of urban design than many other US cities. The cost of home ownership in Toronto the city is fairly high, so highrises are popular for those that don't want to move an hour out into the suburbs.

The space is not as much as you think. The real amount of habitable land is much smaller than the size of the country.

@CrystalClearWith8BE
@CrystalClearWith8BE 3 жыл бұрын
Basically, the 409 is an alternate spur of the 401 connecting the 401 east to the 427 on both directions and the Toronto Pearson International Airport. Also, you can use this if the 401's kilometers 352 to 355 are congested. If you're from the 401 westbound and if you want to take the 427 southbound, take the 409 westbound and take a loop to the 427 southbound. If you're on the 427 northbound and you want to take the 401 eastbound, while in a large interchange, stay in the 427 until you take a ramp to the 409 eastbound and it will lead you to the 401 eastbound.
