I can feel the love you have for your plants. As a Gardner myself . I felt the "got a Lil sidetracked " and you potted up the baby , soon to be adult basil. I started laughing cause I have been sidetracked a many times reporting the baby stragglers. So sweet !!

Hi, Citrus Basil is one of my favorite too ! you know you can keep it longer by putting it in a bottle with olive oil and keep it in a dark place during a month, then filter your oil to remove the greens. Then you just have to use your olive oil with a citrus basil flavour in your salad, it's delicious ! you also can do another one with normal basil or thai basil with some garlic, it's flavorful too

So glad to hear about the heavier watering rather than twice daily. I just asked about the misting twice per day on FB yesterday because starting work at 6:00am with a 1 hour (60km) drive to the office will make watering in the mornings pretty difficult for me. Love your content btw, thank you.

I have a suggestion to overcome the difficulty of the first cut to get the tray started: When you seed the tray, leave the corner of the tray without seeding. I love your videos. I watch them again and again, mostly for inspiration, because I have already learned from you the fundamentals of microgreen-ing

You are a GREAT teacher! I love ow thorough you are and you added the info on how to make starts from the little stragglers, awesome :) Question: Should I wash my trays before I use them the first time and should I wash them after each crop harvest before a new crop?

I grow a lot of microgreens. My friends and family have been getting free microgreens for a couple years now. My main grow is a salad mix that has 8 different plants. While germinating it kinda smells like someone just opened some sauerkraut. I love sauerkraut, but not a fan of the smell. About 6 months ago i started growing basil, dill, and oregano. It has made quite a difference. I make sure to start new trays about 5 to 6 days before harvesting and i try to harvest a couple days between plant types to avoid not having herbs. It keeps the house smelling fresh, and i have so many uses for them. I've also transplanted some of them to grow fully and give away as gifts which helps because I'm a cheapskate.

If you leave the basil in the tray it typically won't grow much more after a few weeks. Is that because it needs more soil?

Have you ever heard of Comfrey? I use Comfrey and nettle tea an my garden with wonderful results. I put a 1/4 5 gallon bucket to 1/4 nettles and cover with water with a brick on to and let steep for a week or 2 with a lid on it. Then dilute it to use on the garden. I am just getting into micro greens to add to our Outdoor/indoor Class rooms with My Child Care. Basically so we can keep fresh nutrients for the Children and my family during the winter months.

Hmm, it could potentially be a couple thing's from what we've experienced in the past.. 1) fridge is too cold, 2) too much moisture in the storage container, which can also be bad if the fridge is too cold. 3) need a better air-tight container or bag maybe? 🤔🤔

Hello Avik! We run our lights for 17 hours on and 7 hours off. As for temperature, we get the best growth between 75F-85F as most crops enjoy the heat. Some crops don't do as well with the heat but 90% do well with it.

On The Grow I was referring to the lighting you use for your videos. Your videos always look great. I was using a couple of 500 watt “hot lights” the color balance was impossible, and we shoot directly at our growing rack, so I used 8 of the t5’s you mentioned and built a lighting rig. Maybe you might consider a video on your filming set up.

Hi there! I've been watching some of your videos over time (very informative and straight to the point). I've been growing microgreens in small plastic trays (stacked like yours) under a cheap light (it's purple). I love to cook and that's why microgreens happened. I'm 18 from Denmark and about to move from home into a small apartment. I want to keep growing microgreens and herbs (thyme, basil, lemon balm, rosemary, ect.) but i want it to look aesthetically pleasing as well. I'd love to have a rack, but it takes up too much space and I don't need that much. Any suggestions on how I can keep growing smaller amounts of microgreens in a way that looks good and dosen't mess up the place where I live visually?

HI Mandi, I ahve just started growing microgreens and really enjoying your videos, so much brilliant information, so thank you for that! One question, in one of your videos I saw that you were using mason jars, wondering how the microgreens last in glass jars? And do you keep the lid on them, so far I have been using plastic (ziplocs) which the microgreens have lasted really well in but I want to get away from using plastic if it is possible. Just wonderingif you have done any experiments on this? Thank you again for your super informative videos, keep them coming!

Thank you so much for the support MARK EDMISTON!! Usually we use plastic bags for our sturdier microgreens as well. For the video we put them in jars because it just looks better ! We do, however store some of our more delicate micros in jars, closed, in the fridge! Also, to date, we have not tested bags and jars for storage, but what a good idea!

Just curious- I get a pretty good harvest from my sunflower and pea shoot trays inside under lights , but when I toss them in the garden, if they land face up, I get another huge harvest. What am I doing wrong?
@OnTheGrow
@OnTheGrow 4 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about post harvest tossing the remains into the garden? Some crops will grow back after harvest, but with diminishing returns and generally with poorer taste. For example, peas will grow back quite strong, but the taste and harvest weight both suffer when grown a second and third time. If you are talking about just growing outdoors, you can get some incredible harvest weights growing in the sun!

What is the best way to store your microgreens? We harvested our first set of cilantro today, but I honestly have no idea how to store em for maximum shelf life.

Most stay good in baggies or containers for over a week. Keep them cold, but too cold and they will begin to breakdown and rot. So we keep ours away from the cooling element in the back of the fridge. We also use mason jars and they work great also!

Next time you grow two crops one tray, after harvesting the lemon basil, no need to flip tray and harvest the other at the end. Start at middle where the lemon ended.

@@OnTheGrow please don't heat or cook your crops. They should be eaten raw because heats destroys the some nutrient content and also softens them to reduce fibre in them.🙂 Moreover, don't worry about bacteria because your setup and environment is controlled and clean.👍🏻
