As someone who has an older brother who practically raised me in place of an absent father growing up - the realization that Barley was the 'father' figure Ian was looking for the entire time had me a crying mess lmao this movie wrecked me and I was not expecting it at all.

26:20 I bawled my damn eyes out with how much I related to Barley. I went through the same thing with my stepdad: he was on hospice after fighting cancer for months, and went from a chubby guy who gave the best hugs to a skeletal man gasping for air. To see someone go from living their best life to surviving by the thread is so hard. I could barely stay in the room for more than a few minutes before kissing his head, saying my last “I love you” and I ran away in tears. Still is one of the worst memories and I hate that I couldn’t muster more courage to be by his side. He was a real man and a true father to me, and will always be the guy I think of when people ask me what my dad was like. I’d give anything to have another few minutes with him, I truly envy Barley for getting his last moments and a few more memories.

I'm sorry for your loss and I know what you mean, I've been in the same situation with a few family members now and it truly never gets easier. You may not have had the courage to be there the whole time, but I guarantee that last "I love you" meant the world to him; you did your best and I'm sure he appreciated every moment of it.

I went through the same thing with my grandma, who was a second mom to me because my parents worked so much. I couldn't look at her at the end without breaking down in tears and so now I live with the same regret Barley had. I couldn't say goodbye and then she was gone. I miss her every day and I wish I had Barley's chance for one more hug and goodbye. At least we have the happy memories with our loved ones still. That's what we have to be thankful for and focus on.

So sorry for your loss. Had the same experience with my dad. He was in a coma, and I went to see him, late at night. Looked at the man who was always so strong and brave, always laughing and trying new things, and he was just laying there unconscious, hooked to machines. I was just 11, didn't know what to say or what to do, just stared in silence. A few hours later, he was no longer with us. I don't wish it'd have gone any differently, I'm just happy I saw him one last time. Same thing then happened to my grandma who raised me. She was in the ICU, completely uncoscious. I was a bit older so I held her hand, but no words came out. I knew how it was going to end, just like my papa. I had to hold back the tears cause If I started, I wouldn't stop. two weeks later, she too was gone for good.

I feel like this movie is to brothers is similar to how Frozen is to sisters. Boys need this sort of honest unapologetic wholesomeness and sensitivity that is just not in many male centric movies. And it is still "manly" and "bro-y." Just some bros and dad having an adventure of their lifetime.

This was my last film that I saw in theaters before COVID began and I remember my experience quite well. My theater was nearly empty and I immediately had an uneasy feeling inside. Then, the next day, my state announced that everything was shutting down. I never would've thought that Onward would be the final film where I set foot in a theater for 12 months.

I remember the first time I saw this movie. I was in the military coming back from a deployment overseas. I was in Baltimore boarding the commercial flight back to my base. The Snyder cut of Justice League had come out while I was gone, and I was really looking forward to watching it on this four hour flight. I was in my seat, we had just taken off, and I was logging into HBO Max. Just as I open the Snyder cut, this kid sitting next to me, can't be older than about 5 or 6, leans over and is not so subtly looking at my screen, and I'm torn between "it's his parents job to be concerned about what he's watching" and "I can watch it when I got home." I rolled my eyes, closed HBO Max, and opened Disney+. I saw Onward on the recommended scroll and thought "that looks cute. and age appropriate for the kid" The kid was very into it, but by the end, I was fighting tears. Not a good look on a plane!

As an only child, sometimes films and shows like this really hit hard on something I'll never possess. But watching this kind of feature where it's two loving brothers going on an adventure together and becoming closer connected because of it, it feels nice to get a glimpse into that kind of life, and this film does an extraordinary job of creating that sort of magic. I hope you two realize how lucky you are to have each other, because plenty like myself would love to have what you have. Excellent reaction as always buds!

5:42 I can't believe you figured out the premise of the movie so fast! On a separate note, my only issue with this otherwise amazing movie is that the top half of their dad didnt stay around for 24 hours like his bottom half did. Feels like they got jipped and that their dad should have been able to stay for a full extra day. But on the other hand I understand that it was probably done this way so that the moral of the story was followed through with and wasn't gutted of its value for a perfectly happy ending.

I think it's fair to assume the clock started ticking as soon as the spell was cast for the first time, and that it can't be extended. The second gem only helped fix the incomplete body. very underrated film. ONE thing I would've changed is I felt they had a great "Framing device" with the Feral Unicorns, and they never used them enough. Not in a big "plot way", but should have had them show up more often int he background. THEN at the end when the vans flying, maybe have the Unicorns watch and... some instinct make sthem want to chase and start fluttering their wings, like the Sprites, as to suggest a bit of the "magic" is returning to the world again.
