I started playing at 11, soon after the Beatles' played the Ed Sullivan Show (in 1963 ?). Growing up, I've seen a lot of the greatest rock & rollers, blues players and pop artists. Now at 63 and still playing, I am now being currently billed as; "THE GREATEST GUITARIST in every single parallel universe there is". However, Earth is not of the parallel universes. So after all is said and done, "John Mayer is the greatest musician there ever was"!!!

This is quite similar to SRV's Tightrope. Although SRV is legendary, JM plays his SRV-inspired stuff more dynamically. Many of SRV's solos can become a bit much, and it can't be defended by his flawless playing. He tends to keep the intensity sky high for too long in some of his recordings although Little Wing is a huge exception. I am a big SRV fan, but i find JM's playing more uniquely breathing and versatile. One thing that JM physically can't do, and he has admitted this himself - to play with the same intensity as SRV over the same amount of time.
@jayjackson90147 жыл бұрын
Champzion he's good but no SRV. He's a imitator of SRV not innovator.

@markschwab56947 жыл бұрын
That's a dam good ear. There's definitely similarities in the solo and a few key notes especially from SRV Austin City limits version. I'm a big SRV fan but IMO he's not as versatile as John Mayer. SRV did play with hellish intensity often fueled by coke and played very clean just to hard for too long IMO. Watch a sound check by SRV; he just picks up the guitar and takes off into a dead sprint for the next 30 minutes; impressive but again too much for me. I loved it when SRV did songs like "Life by the drop." Obviously they're both great guitarist. I like Mayer's solo better than Clapton's but that's just preference.
