In this video, we show how to open and start Land Rover models with a dead key fob battery and a hidden key hole. There is a way to get in and get going and it works.
Of course, starting the car assumes that the start battery is good. And if not, we will can get you inside and ready for a jump start.
Models covered include the Range Rover, Evoque, Discovery, and Velar.

@@DashboardSymbols this was one of our new guys who wasn't sure how to access the car. He said the lock wouldn't turn. I said they are sometimes a bit stiff to turn as they are usually never used as everyone uses the fob buttons. It turned with a bit of effort though.

Start by replacing the fob's battery. If its still a problem, its time for a new fob...

Ok, three things are possible. And I'm running under the assumption that only the tailgate is the issue. First, manually open the tailgate. Then press and hold the button for 10 seconds and see if it works. Second, Land Rover's instructs for resetting the tailgate (you might see right away why I recommended the above). To reset the tailgate: Manually close the tailgate. Press a release button. Allow the tailgate to power fully open, or to the previously set position. Press and release the close button. Allow the tailgate to power close fully. The tailgate's programmed memory is now restored. Finally, there are commands available on the instrument panel involving the fob, but the page wasn't available! If the above ideas don't work, have a scroll through the menu (left side of steering wheel). Let me know... @@briansmith4569

Very possible (and I presume you mean the back-up start). The transponder may have survived, but you'll clearly have to give it a try to be sure. Let us know!!

great vid mates! i am from the states, my 2010 lr 2 hse, is foreign made however i believe. i have new starter and battery, and power is there but it wont turn over, will reseting the ecu work? or do i have to find the EKA access code to disable the immobilizer system? i have no idea where that EKA ACCESS 4 digit code will be? please help!

The god's honest truth is that I have no idea. A few things though. First, where the car was made is irrelevant. Second, replacing the starter and battery should not require anything other than radio codes and seat preferences, etc., be reset. I have to ask -- do you have the right key fob?? Other than that, the work that was done suggests a longer standing problem. Start with the basics, as in fuses and circuit breakers. Otherwise, its time to pay a good repair shop.

Ok, that narrows things. We don't have access to manuals earlier than 2015. Is this a keyless (push button) start model?

Well, you're offline now, so maybe its fixed(?). Anyway, if not and if it IS keyless start, LR loves to disable the cars in 'unusual circumstances'. Assuming u have the manual, look for the back up start option. This may take care of it...

@@DashboardSymbols thanks for getting back, yes its push button, 2010 lr2 hse, i heard its in immoblizer mode and needs a pin/code, that you have to turn left and right in number sequence through the front door key hole....if this works and i get the fight code b/c it was built in UK, then i can save a trip to dealer, also dealer wasnt helpful when i gave them my vin #, so they can locate the proper code...and thy dnt know..so wats the bakup option?'.....please help,

Not a chance. On the other hand, the blade is INSIDE the smart key, so I would think it would be available...

DashboardSymbols.com here's the issue : i bought a range rover evoque from some guy a month ago.. and he only gave two smart key's (does it only come with two ?) , but i think some one is following me ...im afraid if thy have a copy of the key they might steal my car when i park it... So i called some one and he said he can reprogram the smart key so if they have a copy it won't work ! So the question is does it only comes with 2 smart key's and is it possible to reprogram the smart key in order to eliminate the chance of getting Theft Auto ? PS : i can't call the cops because i don't have enough evidence And Thank you brother

Yes it only comes with 2 keys and yes if they have somehow copied a key, reprogramming yours would make theirs unable to work. However, clever criminal can sometimes still get around the new security systems. Sorry, and good luck!

If you push the button on the remote twice the vehicle will lock as normal then on the second push of the button will dead lock which means if there is a power loss from the remote or vehicle itself then by putting the key in manually will not unlock from the door we have a evoque in at the minute and have the exact problem its unbelievable there is no fail safe if the vehicle suffers total power loss the key is designed just to unlock manually if the button was only pushed once

Well, have to admit, we were unaware of this. It seems short sighted to leave a driver in this predicament. We'll look deeper, and it could take a bit. In the meantime, hopefully you can get a new battery for the fob.

EVERYTHING I see says that the mechanical key should absolutely unlock the door. Double locking does NOT prevent the proper equipment from working.
