22:09 When I sent my second novel off to my agent she wrote back and pointed out that one of the characters was redundant - and he'd been in it from chapter two. I was forced to agree with her so I went back to chapter two and rewrote the whole book to remove that character and to give all his dialogue and actions to someone else (usually several someone elses). And in the end I was glad because it made the book so much better. A good agent is your best friend. (PS This was in the days before computers, so I literally re-wrote the thing, page by page.)

It depends on your definition of "criminal" as well. Just because someone is supposedly elected and can ensure that whatever corrupt crap they engage in is either re-framed by the media apparatus, memory-holed out of the public consciousness, protected by mass cencorship, or simply redefined as "legal" doesn't make them any less of a criminal IMO. I think that criminals have been running amock in our governments for decades, and we're really just beginning to truly see the results now.

Chat GPT’s verdict: That’s a great matchup! Let’s break down the strengths and weaknesses of each to see who might come out on top. The T-800 (Terminator) Strengths: 1. Durability and Endurance: Made of a hyperalloy endoskeleton, the T-800 is incredibly tough and difficult to destroy. It can withstand bullets, explosions, and extreme temperatures. 2. Strength: The T-800 possesses superhuman strength, easily overpowering most human opponents and even some machines. 3. Immunity to Infection: Being a machine, it’s immune to disease, parasitic infection, and, likely, any biological manipulation by The Thing. 4. Combat Prowess and Intelligence: Programmed for combat and strategic thinking, the T-800 would fight The Thing efficiently, identifying threats and adapting quickly. 5. Weapons: Depending on the scenario, the T-800 may have access to firearms or other advanced weaponry that could help in combating The Thing. Weaknesses: 1. Limited Flexibility: The T-800 is not invincible and can be damaged. Critical hits to its power source or CPU could disable it. 2. Limited Sensory Capabilities: While it has infrared and optical sensors, it might struggle to detect The Thing if it’s in disguise. The Thing (John Carpenter’s “The Thing”) Strengths: 1. Shape-Shifting and Assimilation: The Thing can mimic and assimilate any biological lifeform, copying appearances and behaviors with perfect accuracy. 2. Extreme Resilience: Every cell of The Thing is alive and independent, meaning it can survive dismemberment and can even regenerate from small parts. Destroying it entirely requires fire or other intense heat. 3. Deception and Ambush: The Thing often relies on blending in with its surroundings to ambush its victims, which it might attempt with the T-800. Weaknesses: 1. Vulnerability to Fire: Fire, plasma, and other forms of extreme heat are highly effective against The Thing, as it’s been shown to burn easily. 2. Lack of Intelligence in Direct Combat: While cunning, The Thing isn’t highly skilled in open combat; it relies more on stealth and manipulation. The Battle In a direct confrontation, the T-800’s durability would give it an edge, especially with firearms or flamethrowers (if it has them). Since The Thing relies on biological organisms for its mimicry and infection, it would struggle to assimilate the machine. The T-800 would likely identify it as a threat once it reveals itself or exhibits strange behavior. If The Thing tried to attack by brute force, the T-800 would likely overpower it physically. Additionally, the T-800’s experience and programming in exterminating organic threats mean it might identify fire as an effective weapon, potentially targeting The Thing’s regenerative tissue with intense heat or flamethrowers. Verdict In most scenarios, the T-800 would probably win a direct fight due to its durability, strength, and immunity to assimilation. However, The Thing could still pose a serious threat if it managed to ambush the T-800 or disable it through subterfuge. In a pure combat scenario, though, the T-800’s advantages suggest it would eventually triumph by either neutralizing or incinerating The Thing’s cells.

I’m 38, as a teacher, I agree with most of this. But you underestimate how little power teacher how nowadays…😢 You can’t discipline anyone, because that’s bullying. All you can do is to write some note to the office which does nothing. After a test I can’t even tell the grades, because of “privacy policy”. I have to call each individual student and show them their grade. And they can’t be ordered by the scores “because it is easy for students to figure out each other’s grades”… I had a student yelled at me when I scolded him for not working during the class project. I left that schools, kids there were horrible. And teachers would get no support from the school. That little Hitler of a director department would scold you “how you can’t control the class”. Bitch please… how am I to do it when they know I have no power to punish them at all and that grades don’t matter, because I HAVE to give them minimum passing grade or I’ll get fired…

The thing about the Joker giving the triggers to blow the other boat up is you don't REALLY know which boat would've blown. It could have been the triggers were linked to the only the one it was on, or to both. It's not an unreasonable assumption, given Joker's methods in the rest of the film. That rashness to pull the trigger, even if justified, may be what Joker was counting on to have the innocent people kill themselves. Edit: If the idea is that the people onboard don't have the context to consider that, I understand that thinking, but it would still be reasonable for them not to just take the words of Joker as absolute facts of the situation.
@pezdispencer113
@pezdispencer113 11 күн бұрын
Yeah I always suspected that the boats got the trigger to their own bombs. Just like how Joker misdirected Batman by swapping addresses for Rachael and Harvey. I hadn't actually considered that each of the triggers would blow both though, I could see that.

Despite the cat hating, I think you may have missed the point… maybe. At least in my opinion, she rescues the cat because it’s the only other original crew member alive, almost like clinging onto her own sanity and as a catalyst to her own survival she makes sure she can at least save someone and not give up. It’s also an early nod to her maternal instinct, explored later with newt etc

Thanks for dressing up for us, Drinker and Gary - you guys made Halloween extra festive. Drinker looked like a werewolf who ate Batman and then used him as a skin suit. I say that as a goof, and yet he probably likes that image. And, I love Gary's hippie costume, made me laugh out loud at the first sight of him. Well done, Gary, well done. I once went to a Halloween party dressed as a hippie peace activist - except I meant it. I don't watch Gary enough to know, but I think he does care about peace. Anyway, the only thing I remember about that Halloween party when I was a peacenik, which was at a club, was this absolutely gorgeous couple - like really breathtakingly beautiful people, who came dressed as Pebbles and Bamn-Bamm. You just couldn't help but stare at these two. Anyway, they stood right in the center of the dance floor and then just looked around to see who was looking at them. Neither one of them said anything nor even looked at the other. And I remember thinking, oh my God, how boring and shallow and dumb they looked - so vain they didn't even appreciate the stunning partner standing right in front of them. Clearly, they didn't have a thought in their stupid heads and they certainly didn't look like they were even enjoying themselves. Ugg! P.S. Gary needs a sign that says 'Make Love! Not War!' I think he could get behind that - oops, that sounded dirty. Sorry, KZbin.

Regarding Romulus. The movie is moot. The Nostromo blew up with not one but three nuclear explosions. The ship is reduced to atoms, there is no way they can find pieces of is floating around in space, and even if there were, they would be far away from the point of the explosion, that's how space works. Same goes for the alien that Ripley shot out of the escape ship, it wouldn't be floating around at the same spot.

Going with the final battle, the T800 vs the thing, the T800 will win. Going with the logic given in an empty room the T800 only needs to detonate it’s power cells which are both nuclear ( T3, T4) and it does have two, causing mini nuclear detonations which would generate enough heat to to vaporize the thing. In a city environment after physical attacks, bladed attacks, and standard ammunition attacks fail the T800 would still win because it would move up to heavy ordnance ( thermite, napalm, incendiary) . T800 wins, it’s just a matter of time and resources ( military bases/equipment, Walmarts, sporting goods stores)

If the t 800 and The Thing were in that scenario (in a room with nothing) Remember, he has that nuclear powered core in T3 that could make a small nuclear explosion. Which would murder The Thing. Not sure if it would be a stalemate.

When I got my MA, I realized I wasn't ready to go into teaching. So, I spent eight years in business and industry before I thought of getting a teaching position in a college. I learned so much and was glad I made the wise decision to do so. I was a better teacher for it. Any university or college is going to have teachers who are clueless about real life. I personally don't think anyone should go to college before they are twenty or twenty-one. The best students I've had are the ones coming out of a dead-end job or getting out of the military; they are the best students. They know why they are in college and have a goal. They understand following directions and keeping the smart alec out of their attitudes. But nowadays with all the woke crap going on, I paraphrase Davy Crockett: "The universities and colleges can go to hell. I am going to Texas."

That Poltergeist discussion did my head in. You guys attached way to much to the name Poltergeist. This entity takes a little girl into another realm and the medium says "she is with the beast" this is clearly something far more dangerous and powerful than just a ghost moving things around.

Erm. The Thing built a space craft for days. So it can out-build a T-800. Pazuzu (a demon) is possessing bodies to control. The Thing is, essentially, a lot of bodies. In one. It can separate itself in order to try to run away. But killing the host without exorcism means the demon will just jump in its new form. So Pazuzu wins. The entire schmoz is a close one between Jason and a xenomorph... where Jason wins, because regeneration and also Uber Jason exists. The end.

For the battles you should have done blank room (combat power), house (ingenuity) and forest (stealth) since some specialise in certain enviroments and have particular strengths and weaknesses.

Pazuzu vs The Thing. I've not seen an Exorcist film, but my money is on the demon. Souls are real in the Exorcist universe, but does that even matter? The Thing is still life and I reckon any imitation could be possessed. I can see the argument against it, but that's who I'd think win. As for The Thing vs the T-800, yes, hands-down, the T-800 wins. The Thing cannot assimilate a machine, and it wouldn't have time to grow anything that could damage it, if we go with the blank room arena. As much as I love The Thing, I can't see it winning those two scenarios.

Disparu: it's part of being an adult to learn what you were taught as a kid is wrong. Also Disparu: kids believe what their parents tell them because they evolved from monkeys. Guess that's a new tactic to use on my daughters to let them know that they'll never reach their next supposed evolutionary jump unless they learn to listen
