Anthony, I know you have a wide variety of taste, but so far you have never reviewed or talked about Classical music. Is there any good western classical music being made today, or is there any from the past you like?

I totally think he needs to review some Phillip Glass.
@Postphenomenology
@Postphenomenology 10 жыл бұрын
I asked the same a while back, I'd love to watch him review one. Sadly, I think if he was a fan or liked classical music he would have already review something. The other option is, he could be reluctant because most viewers might not be that interested in it, but I don't believe that as much unfortunately. I still hope one day he might do it though, why not.
@greagandev
@greagandev 10 жыл бұрын
If Anthony is much a music fan as he seems to be, I would imagine that diving into the Philip Glass discography would be all consuming. He probably knows that he would disappear in a rabbit hole if he did. I am curious to hear what he thinks, it would absolutely sketch out his limits of musical comprehension. Or maybe it wouldn't. Maybe he is fully capable of dissecting Philip Glass in the same way he does with more common music. Either way, I wonder sometimes if Anthony is a savant of some sort, and that would probably clue us in on the details.

Love this album, great review. Better than Potholes for sure. Only difference in opinion for me is that I really like the Idaho track. It's very eerie, for an otherwise light hearted album, so that makes it stand out. I also thought it was a great example of M. Eagle's Lyical Ingenuity.

I guess i need to actually listen through the album. Just sort of skimmed over a few tracks on bandcamp the other week. But it seems like a lot of rappers now are singing on their songs and tend to not be all that dialed in with pitch. Like more than usual, regardless it can have a nice feel sometimes having that slightly off singing

You should review George Ezra's album, Wanted On Voyage! He's a pretty cool folk/blues rock dude and he's gaining some steam here in the UK. I saw him at a warm up show for his tour and he's got real talent, seems like a pretty cool guy too. It's not out until the 30th, but it's streaming on iTunes in the UK right now.

His least favorite track was one of my favorite tracks. Idaho is the most introspective; internal dialogue might be a word for it but perhaps it's better described as a structured stream of consciousness. It comes at a point in the album when the braggadocios and comedy have already happened, and combined with John Lovitz, offers a welcome change in tone that sets us up for the next five songs. It's perhaps the serious, vulnerable brother to John Lovitz. On the album, these two songs build atmosphere; it's like saying he hated the opening track of Demon Days, which while being kind of meh as a song, is necessary to bring the listener into a space where he/she can enjoy that album's excellent singles in the album's context. The building bass-y synths half-way through the track express the same tension and insecurity that OME feels in the loose thematic narrative of the album. Shifting to a metaphor of flying his ship in space and thinking that "earth is the loneliest planet" speaks to me because that's how it feels to be introspective while driving at night. I'm also surprised that he disliked this track given that the stylistic elements came up in other tracks he loved: John Lovitz (Stuff already), the hook-like parts are similar to those in qualifiers, the singing is the same as John Lovitz, the lyrical delivery is a lot like Very Much Money. I'd love to know more specifically what Mr. Fantano did not connect to in this song; I hope my defense rings true to others.

It's essentially the more hard hitting/hype type songs/instrumentals that you find in hip hop. Examples would be a lot of trap type influenced songs by people like Migos or ASAP Mob, or some of the hyper tracks from people such as Flatbush Zombies or Danny Brown.

I feel he has reached the the mainstream like schoolboy did with oxymoron and Kendrick with good kid mad city. You can just tell that their album is different from the others. Like it was less lyrics in some ways and more substance story and catchy in ways. This would be a really good topic though

I've been listening to Mike for years. The guys in the hellfyre club, particularly Busdriver, are at the far cutting edge of hip hop/rap. Things that they put out 10 years ago are starting to influence some of the music I hear today. I would say that Busdriver is perpetually 10 years ahead of the game. If you don't know who these people are, you should take a good look at it.

Yea, if your not keeping a close eye on these guys they will morph into something else before you know it. Hellfyre is pretty much the same as Blowed, I just haven't seen 2mex lately and there are some new guys. I believe Busdriver and Nocando are still at the center of it all.
