The details explained by Jeremy are truly 'fundamental'. To me they are amazing! I will be a lot better player by practicing all the details he reveals in his videos. Thank you.

This class is like learning to play chess... You have to know how to move (put) your legs and arms (pieces) into the court (board) depending on the shot (move) made by your opponent. And I need to watch and study this video more than once to fully understand the lesson. Thanks for showing techniques and secrets that others don't.

I have been watching many youtube tennis channels so far and Jeremy is one of the coaches who clearly understands the modern tennis and knows how to give clear instruction. Probably some audio and some graphics improvements will make this channel one of top of the line youtube tennis channels. Keep it up!

I found your video via Tennis Haus FB group and I wanted to comment right away. First, love the content very informative. I agree with roger that it is the best explanation Ive seen by far for online tennis instruction. My only tip would make the videos shorts perhaps 10-12 minutes long max, just suggestion. I did watch the entire video because how good it was. My question is this. I think footwork/stances is very important to teach to juniors because they are such a blank slate, however how could a coach simplify what you just said? Because it is a lot of information. Could a coach summarize it as use stances that use blackfoot primarily baseline or deeper and front foot for shorter balls? Thanks for your thoughts about junior development.
@FundamentalTennis5 жыл бұрын
Jesse Gotlib thank you Jesse. Yes I am working on shortening videos 👍 I simplified it at the end. Two factors that decide the stance are time and contact height. Let me know if you have any other questions!

A couple of comments, i use the close stance on the backhand when I’m deep to the left sideline and I want to drive the ball hard like a typical Wawrinka shot. Your closed stance is more like at 11 o’clock instead of 10 o’clock. The semi-open I use on inside-in or inside -out shots. Also, when you replay, please flag my original comment so I know when you have replied otherwise I have to keep checking.

Nice comprehensive review of stances, Jeremy. I have a 1HBH and I have doubts about the advisability of using an open stance to drive a ball with this stroke. Watching your video you appear to be in an almost unbalanced posture when hitting this stroke. Some commentators, in fact, advise against using the open stance on a 1HBH drive. The BH slice, I believe, is another matter and I wish you had included it in your stances. Because the BH slice uses less torso rotation that the BH drive, I think you can better get away with using an open stance on that wing with it. And, pressed for time retrieving a wide, fast ball, it is probably the preferred stroke to use in that situation.
@FundamentalTennis5 жыл бұрын
George Oberlander hi George, the open stance 1HBH rarely uses a true open stance. I think you have to be extremely gifted to master it. It feels quit natural to me. The semi open stance 1HBH is much more common. I’m not sure I understand your last 2 sentences but it sounds like you are saying it’s more acceptable to do open stance on a slice backhand in comparison to a 1HBH drive. I’d have to disagree with that since you must stay more sideways with a slice as you mentioned. And I wouldn’t take what the commentators say to heart. They often have mediocre knowledge at best. You’ll often see players slice their backhand when there only other choice is to hit a 1HBH drive.
@Fernwald845 жыл бұрын
@@FundamentalTennis Hi, Jeremy. What I was getting at was that, because the BH slice requires less upper body rotation, it is easier to keep your balance when trying to retrieve a wide shot to the backhand side. I find it harder to stay balanced when taking a full swing with the 1HBH drive using a full open stance. As far as recovering quickly from the more sideways position in the slice, simply remembering to swing the back foot (left foot for righties) around during the follow through allow you to push off with this leg back to a recovery position.

Your teaching strokes finished with high out in front - hold the finish but your demonstrated strokes had finish across the body. Can you elaborate the different on the two finish styles and slowly demonstrate the finish across the body? Also, I think the Semi Open is best for High bounced ball on the Forehand and Transfer weight from back to front leg - with High preparation and hitting across the body - that's why I really want to see how you teach hitting across the body finish. Thanks
@FundamentalTennis5 жыл бұрын
Dan Le yes, in video I stated that high balls are semi open stance. Finishing out in front (no wrap) is great to work on extension, contact and spacing. Finish across the body or any finish for that matter, is a byproduct of the swing path. The swing path is on an arc out, up, across and then backwards. Finish with the hitting hand well to the outside of the body is a good visual 👍

Great Summary ! Few questions: as beguinner I knew that the direction of my shot is determined by the imaginary line that passes through my feet. In otheer words don't you think that the choiche of wich stance you use depend from wich direction we wanto to give to our shots as well ? Thans for your time and compliments :-)
@FundamentalTennis5 жыл бұрын
Mauro Di Mario thank you Mauro. Where you are aiming can sometimes influence what stance you use a little bit however I think that’s overrated as the only thing that control the direction of the ball is the angle of your strings at contact. Hope this helps 👍

If I get a deep ball in the corner on my one-handed backhand, I use a closed stance and then hit a slice backhand. It works pretty well for me, but is it ok?

Aw, don't be so harsh Jon. Yes, the audio is...oh, how should I put it - _tragic?_ But it's nothing that a wireless, clip-on mike won't fix. All we have to do is subscribe, like and activate notifications and Jeremy will be rolling in dough and have more than enough to buy some decent audio gear. Are you listening, Jeremy? (What? I can't hear you! 🙉)
