Watching this makes me understand that what I have been doing the past year since I started playing is all wrong.i never looked at the contact and thought my stroke was wrong, but it's because I wasn't watching the contact. These fundamental videos are Exactly what I truly need. This has been so far my hardest habit to remember and implement

If you focus on denying yourself permission to glance across the net until you feel your hand catching the racket on your follow through, it becomes an almost effortless drill, and a sense of relaxation and confidence sets in. Once it becomes a habit, you will wonder why in the world you ever worried about hitting the ball into the net. Thanks, Jeremy, for sharing the most important tip to be found on the net.

Hello Jeremy I. I’ll add two things importants I think. Not looking the ball but the raquet hitting the ball in the target point If you push with your legs in the ball the head is heavy and will align more naturally with it instead to overturn when striking that also overturn your head The difference between tennis and basket for example is the fact that in basket to have the ball in your hand so look at the point where you want to hit, the goal. in tennis you have the raquet in your hand so the goal is to watch the point where you want to hit the raquet the ball. Love that analogy. Thanks!!👍

jean huz well said. It’s tricky because most sports you watch where your aiming but definitely not tennis. Many people have to learn to get out of that habit. I have had people ask me if they should watch where there aiming when hitting 😳

"I don't want to screw up!" Totally what I think when I'm missing high short volleys... This might be the best lesson for tennis players (For some reason I wrote most when I wanted to write best in my original comment)

Fundamental Tennis Tried this today and I was definitely much more consistent and had control on placement of most of my shots. Didn’t always “watch contact.” But for the most part I did and it works!!! I can’t thank you enough for this tip

Hi with his method if result orented a player can also be thinking of recovery for the next shot. A drill on shot only knowing the recovery is already in your stance more automatic. Very good 👍😊

This is something I have been working on lately. One place where I saw immediate improvement was on my serve, consciously watching my ball toss to contact and not where I was trying to serve has meant more balls in and allowed me to increase my pace especially on my second serve.
@FundamentalTennis4 жыл бұрын
garfgo great. I have noticed that telling players watch contact on their serve definitely results in more serves going in.

I really believe this is at the top of crucial things list in tennis yet I don’t do it consistently. Must be the result oriented mindset though it’s bizarre as you should get better results doing this!

Very good video. Thank you. IMHO, the best drill to practice watching the ball is to have a racquet without strings and "hitting" the ball coming from a tennis ball machine. Seriously :)

Dmitry Private yes, that’s a great drill. I do a ton of progressions with an unstrung racquet for any technique in any stroke

I'm not sure watching contacts is the key. Federer is the one who has a habit of always watching the contact for a unnecessary long duration but his shots are much less clean compared to Djokovic and Nadal who in many pictures don't really look at the contact but can hit the ball extremely clean dead centre with consistency. Djokovic for example rarely watches the contact with his forehands because he always hits the ball on the rise and looks at the opponent to choose his shot placement. For the backhand, the position of the body makes it natural for the eyes to stay at the contact point. I think making yourself in line with the direction of the coming ball is more important than watching the contact. For on the rise shots close to your body, you can't really see the contact anyway, you have to hit the ball in the area where you think it will pass through. For me, it's about watching the ball (and its direction) instead of watching the contact. I'd like to side with Intuitive Tennis on this viewpoint.
