The Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz is the 4th stage of the 2019 Grand Chess Tour. The 10-player tournament takes place in the St. Louis Chess Club from 10-14 August. The prize fund is $150,000, with $37,500 for 1st place. 7 tour regulars, including World Champion Magnus Carlsen, are joined by wildcards Leinier Dominguez, Yu Yangyi and Richard Rapport.
The rapid section on the first 3 days is a single round-robin with a time control of 25 minutes for all moves and a 10-second delay from move 1. The final 2 days are a blitz double round-robin, with 18 rounds of 5+3 blitz. Rapid games count double, with 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. A 2-player tie for first will be decided by a 2-game rapid mini-match (10+5) and, if necessary, an Armageddon game (5 vs. 4). Official website: grandchesstour.org

It's honestly refreshing to see Magnus struggle for once in a tournament even though I admire him coz it's just boring to see him dominating every tournament. Others need to get a chance too 😜
@ostenloo1981
@ostenloo1981 5 жыл бұрын
To be honest some of his "dominations" were not effortless either. He's had trouble-- losing to MVL, struggling against Aronian, and losing against Caruana. Also, nice to see Aronian and MVL in the lead-- MVL currently has 25 GCT points, and, if Magnus performs poorly, could overtake him. Aronian has only 11 points but only 1 event played, so he could be a serious contender for the finals.

I never cease to be amazed how much of a defensive fight these guys put up. Caruana gets an advantage pretty early out of preparation, but he still has to play A+ chess for the rest of the game to turn that into a win as Carlsen finds ways time after time to complicate things and threaten mates of his own. And in rapid, too!
