I was at this concert. The venue is Red Rocks Amphitheater. The date of the concert was May 11, 2017. I have to pinch myself sometimes to remind myself I was actually at this once-in-a-lifetime concert. Not only were the planets aligned for the venue and Opeth, but Gojira and Devin Townsend Project opened for Opeth as well. I remember the pyrotechnics were keeping us warm in one of the first 10 rows up front, but then it became cold in the evening. I gave my hoodie to my wife, so I was cold, but I refused to leave because I wanted to hear Deliverance, which - thankfully - they played last; therefore, we stayed for the entire performance and I was able to snag the last poster commemorating the evening. I can't complain! There are many videos reacting to this evening for all of the bands, but especially this song. It's a proud moment to live in Colorado (USA) for a venue and night like this.

So amazingly ironic you’re wearing a Jinjer shirt, because Mikael is the reason Tati and other singers like her exist, he was doing this in the 90’s when people didn’t even understand how it was possible
@gmeister30222 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Even in the last 80's, I think.
@GlimB2 жыл бұрын
@@gmeister3022 Opeth may have existed in 1989 but I'm not sure. Mikael Åkerfeldt joined the band in 1990 after David Isberg pretty much kicked everyone else out. However, Mikael wasn't the bands vocalist until after David left in 1992. So I wouldn't say he's been doing it since the 80's.
@yodieyuh Жыл бұрын
Mikael? Over other male vocalists mixing clean and dirty in the 90s? Over Karyn Crisis and other women, in the 90s, mixing clean and dirty? Over the male dirty vs female clean from early 90s Theater of Tragedy? Just Mikael?
@Polyphemus89 Жыл бұрын
@@yodieyuh I mean yeah, because he invented the technique they were all using in the 80’s. Didn’t say he was the best, just the godfather. Edit: although to be fair I am biased and do think he is the best, at least until very recently when the science caught up to the technique and their are some singers out their doing insane stuff now
@yodieyuh Жыл бұрын
@@Polyphemus89 I feel I must be confused. What exactly are you referring to that vocalists "didn't even understand how it was possible"? Just in my own experience, I first heard Opeth through MP3 trades in the early-mid 90's and nothing about Mikael's vocals was new or puzzling to me. Patton was already experimenting with sliding between clean and harsh in Mr Bungle. Bands like Anal Cunt covered the gamut from clean to shrill to growl to screech to snarl to everything else all in the same 'verse'. Morbid Angel had Evil D doing growl verses and choir-chant choruses in '93, while Therion was also doing growl to choir in '93. Staying with Mikael. His friend and Bloodbath bandmate, Dan Swano, was experimenting with clean + harsh in Edge of Sanity. Aldrahn was moving from harsh to clean in the same line in early Dodheimsgard. He could blend both together into one sound as well. 1994 brought us the first Acid Bath. While Sammy does the more extreme screams and screeches Dax was moving constantly between clean and growl/snarl and back again, sometimes within the same line or even the same word. This is just the first time I've heard anyone claim Mikael did something vocally that hadn't been done before. I love his vocals and used Opeth as practice for my own vocals back in the day.

Haven't listened to Opeth in years.. Sort of forgot how amazing they really are.. Thanks for reminding me. I would actually give you a reaction idea I do not think you will get a lot, since they are rather unknown. But if there ever was a time its in a Opeth song, then the only question is if you see the message and feel adventures of trying something out of the blue. But the band is called Vildhjarta and like Opeth they are from Sweden. They are also classified as a progressive metal band as Opeth, just newer and rather unknown in the general view. But in the scene those who does know about them hold Vildhjarta on a legend status.. They create sounds and music.. and as all progressive metal its really focused on technique and make changes fit together. So if you do see the message, and feel like trying something you most likely won't get asked to try a lot, in the lines of Swedish metal and progressive metal like Opeth.. Then give Vildhjarta a try. I would go with the song called "Den Helige Anden" as it was the song that really made them legend in the circle. They are not super active and don't have a lot of music something that adds to the legend of them somehow. But yes. Vildhjarta - Den helige Anden : kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIS9fo2ffNV1rtE&ab_channel=CenturyMediaRecords Its heavy though, its heavy for those who listen to heavy.. something that gives people who loves Heavy with a big "H" that punch.
