Another hugely requested song! And I just wanted to break out of the Tool cycle one time since the last 5 covers have been Tool songs. This song took longer to transcribe than I'd thought and was even more painful to record (both guitars are recorded in one take for the whole song as always). Sorry for the slightly cropped rhythm guitar shot, I only realised that while editing the video. And by the way ... new guitar and backdrop! :D

Hi Max, I really love your covers on KZbin, they helped me a lot. I also really love your sound and I wanted to ask you how you record your covers, how do you put together sound and video? 🙏❤️
@MaxNiessl5 ай бұрын
Hey Toshi, thank you! I generally setup my DAW to record with the song. You would need some kind of audio interface for this and a mic. Then I setup my camera (phone) to record the video. I record both of them at the same time and edit them together in Premiere Pro. I usually have a metronome running at the beginning which I can use to sync up the video audio and DAW audio (because I can hear it in the audio of the raw video). Then I can safely delete the audio of the recorded video and have a good video clip with the audio of the interface. Hope that helps! All the best 🙌🏼
@ToshiPrerose5 ай бұрын
@@MaxNiesslthank you so very much. ❤ I am gonna switch to line 6 helix soon and can use it as an interface and record the audio in my DAW on PC through MIDI right?
@MaxNiessl5 ай бұрын
@@ToshiPrerose I personally haven’t used a Line 6 Helix, but I’ve heard that you can use it as an audio interface! But the Helix is just like my Kemper Profiler a great tool to record guitar without the need for mics. In the worst case you would have to get an audio interface to record it with and interfaces from e.g. Focusrite are quite affordable. Have fun 🙌🏼

Hope to see more from you in the future. That's totally badass work u do! BTW How the hell did you break the neck on your Les Paul Commemorative?
@MaxNiessl6 ай бұрын
Thank you very much! I will look into it, maybe the PayPal link is expired, but it definitely came through. I appreciate it :) I also hope that I will find more time for KZbin in the future! The Les Paul was a very dumb move by me. I set it on a chair to do something else - the catch is that I have two cats that had zoomies at that time. They knocked it over and it broke. But it was quite the cheap fix to be honest, like 50€. All the best :)

@@moutine The strings were actually pretty fresh here, but I don’t believe it matters too much since I use coated ones (Elixir Nanoweb)

@@MaxNiesslOh okay, but you got the point that i mentioned right ? Watching you play here feels like you have a snare drum but the velocity is on 100 u barely touch it and it sounds like a rim shot, Anyway it sounds soooo cool and i just wondered cuz i usually use dynamics when it comes to pick attack
@MaxNiessl2 ай бұрын
@@moutine Dynamics is the point, exactly. The amp profile that I’m using has lots of gain, so it doesn’t matter too much how hard I hit the strings. But if I were to use less gain, that would produce a weaker sound. With the Gibson and Epiphone, I usually aim for a more dynamic sound, but for heavier Opeth lots of gain work perfectly on the Solar.
