Mikael is one of the best musicians this planet has. I'm a drummer but he is without doubt my favorite guitar player ever. Guitar styles from death metal to folk to jazz. I love this guy and this band so much.

Oh.... Really?? Hmm... I didn't know that. Thanks. I absolutely LOVE this band! I can't deny it though and won't lie so must admit that I feel as though the growls were considerably 'lackluster', perhaps, for lack of a better word maybe... I do a very similar style of (heavy) vocals to Mikaël - REALLY WISH I could sing even a mere, vague fraction as well as he can, though - and I know I RIP that shit UP when I play this and other Opeth songs but it really sounds and feels as though he's really struggling/straining to keep up with it and the tonality, delivery and raw power are simply absent from this performance. But I'm any case I am pretty sure that anyway it was around this time that Opeth actually began to simply stop making use of growls in newer releases altogether and guess it would stand to reason then that it was thusly attributed - perhaps at least even only partly and maybe also partly simply due to musical evolution - to this decline in growling potential that they began to evolve their writing and material accordingly. ... And let me be absolutely clear when I say that THEY REMAINED JUST AS F$#*ING AMAZING AS THEY ALWAYS HAVE BEEN!!! 🖤🤘

When I found out Gene Hoglan played on this I was like fuck? Do I need anymore proof he's the best metal drummer of all time?
@rameshramchandani72473 жыл бұрын
It's Martin Lopez on the record. But Gene was in just the music video (which sucks). Dio's is cringy but enjoyable. This song mv is painfully funny because it is such a brutal song.
@blppt3 жыл бұрын
As Ramesh pointed out, Gene filled in for Lopez in a few shows after Martin left due to health concerns. He also showed up in the video, but unless somebody has bootlegs of those few Gene Hoglan shows, the only Opeth drummers to play this song live are Lopez and Axenrot, and only Lopez on the albums.

Bare in mind also that what you're hearing is most likely not what is coming out of the system that is being blasted at the festival itself, but rather a sterile sounding version of the individual channels being routed out to a mobile, external, multi-track recording system in which an 'acceptable' representation of what the show must've been like can be mixed to convey the general idea of what was being played over the massive Wacken line array sounds system at the time.

What an insult to those of us that if listened to them for nearly 2 decades to call songs that they wrote garbage and basically mock certain people for not enjoying it. it's a shame when artists have that much talent but that much of an attitude. When you make music in a genre like a progressive death metal and then years later you speak out against the metal community in general like Opeth and mastodon have, how loyal of a fan base do you expect to have? You write countless albums with some of the dest low growls of any band and then you basically call people who enjoy that music stupid.
@AnthonySmith-sc4zs Жыл бұрын
I think he was speaking more about how this song failed on the charts more than anything. No doubt they’ve got a new style now and I wish they’d go back to their old ways but at least they left us one heck of a discography to listen to.
