His growls have been steadily declining in quality since Watershed, unfortunately. He used to be a fucking god when it came to death metal vocals. And he's not a fabulous singer by any means - he's pretty good, but there's way better out there. He is, however, an insanely talented songwriter. That's what I respect him for most. That, and his awesome hair :P

@@bakarenibsheut12 ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? hahaah sorry, I think Mikael has an outstanding singing, "there's way better" I mean...yeah you can always go to find the experts, but I think Mikael's clean singing has been transmitting emotions beautifully and with tenderness since Orchid, and it has evolved, now he uses this belting technique with full mastery, I mean...if you listen Strange Brew and don't get moved by the lines before the solo...yisus I don't know what songs move you hahaha (take it as a joke, not an attack)

@@hyleg666 I'm not saying I'm not moved by his vocals, I nearly always am, but you have to judge singing using technical metrics as well, not just emotive power. He misses notes quite often on stage and sometimes even on the record. OG commenter said he's "flawless". He is far from that, which is why I commented back.

Started listening to Opeth way back in high school, around 2011~2012, for literally a decade. I started with their 'metal' era with, beginning with "Ghost Reveries", which made me go down a rabbit hole and listen to everything they'd released. In this decade of constantly following up with their sound, they were there during my ups and downs, helping in so many aspects of my life, metal-wise. I had to deal with personal issues, I felt lonely a bunch of times in those years, and even struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. Opeth's music to me was an escape from reality, I could always go back and find comfort, I felt connected with so many of Mikael's lyrics, it made me rethink my life decisions and start to improve. Thankfully I've found a way to deal with my inner problems and traced a well tough path for my life. I managed to overcome my depression, which I never felt ever again so far, managed to get my bachelor's degree, and started to take care of my body by eating healthy, exercise and and stopping using drugs. And all and all never abandoned listening to their music. It helped me a lot. I mean it. Got me an Opeth tattoo on my arm, I dunno, I am grateful for knowing this band, thankful for all the good times I had with them, and plus, ITS FUCKING AWESOME In ten years, I have not been able to attend an Opeth concert, because they rarely played in my hometown, Sao Paulo, Brazil. And this was on my bucket list, for years I've been wanting to see them live for the first time. But the universe granted me my wish, next year, on February 8th, 2023, Opeth will play a gig in Sao Paulo and guess what, I got the tickets!!!! I am so happy that I will watch my favorite band for the very first time!!!! I feel so good Thank you, Opeth

I love that he literally shouts "ROAR!" in this and it had almost the same effect as a death metal roar there would have. Although if ever the day comes that Opeth does do even one proper death metal roar or line in a song again I'll probably burst into tears of joy. Just once... One growl... One "Lepers coiled 'neath the trees!"... No...? Ah well... I never knew Watershed would be the end of such an important part of my music listening life. It's like the other vocalist died. All that said this album is his strongest vocally I think. Really liking it!

Been listening to music for close to 50 yrs , over time your tastes become a little staid, it's only natural to get set in your ways and in your musical tastes just keep listening to the stuff you've always loved, I was introduced to Opeth about a year ago, at first I wouldn't even listen, then I listened a little, Blackwater Park, liked it, Deliverance, loved it, love them all now, they are the most original yet musically diverse band I have ever heard and they are my number 1 listen all the time these days, just goes to show that you must be open minded in music because you'll never know what you could miss ! Great great band.

The last ~2minutes remind me of the spooky music playing during a montage of scoob and the gang chasing, and get chased by, a mummy in and abandoned theme park. Zoiks!

I'm preferring the Swedish sung versions even though I can't understand a lick of it. It just sounds more organic. I'd enjoy hearing everything from Heritage on in Swedish as well.

Tal vez sea la única mexicana que le gusta esta canción. 👌🏻💖 Lo que me encanta de Opeth es su gran cambio de ritmo qué puede hacer, es como una montaña rusa. Y me gusta. 🙌🏼 3:28 por ejemplo. 😎
