I saw some people were commenting “this comment is for KZbin algorithm” under the last week’s video. It made me so happy to see that we have some amazing people here who genuinely want this show to be successful, and do whatever they can do to help us. How amazing is that! Thank you everyone who loves our micro-buddies! -James

Ich was the first thing I thought of when you mentioned tomonts and trophonts. An insidious, painful infection!! Thankfully the treatments are pretty easy and quick, raising temp above 80 also helps speed up their life cycle, adding salt also helps (1 TBSP/3 gal water, can go up to 1 TBSP/gallon if needed).

@juicemister4 жыл бұрын
The creator of _Spongebob Squarepants_ was a marine biologist before he started writing the show, so it makes sense that the show would occasionally have some scientifically accurate stuff. Although! Ichthyopthirius isn’t actually a marine disease. It doesn’t tolerate saltwater that well. Instead, There’s an analogous marine protozoan called _Cryptocaryon irritans_. I feel like Stephen Hillenburg knew this and chose to call it “ich” instead because that’s a) easier to say than cryptocaryonasis b) something that a lot more kids will be familiar with, as often infests freshwater home aquariums.

As someone with multiple fish tanks, ich is basically a plague. Even after treatment, it's assessed to just be dormant or on plants, in wood and substrate. Essentially waiting for the meds to break down or be removed via water changes. My 65g tank seems to be on a 3ish month cycle of getting ich.
