@stefanmuller9653Ай бұрын
Have to agree with you here. It's not open to just any white person to join, or even any Afrikaans white person. You have to literally sign their constitution and pledge to live by and abide by their principles. It is much more akin to something like Mormons or Amish not that they have the same values but in that their residents abide and live their ideology very strictly. It's not about being white per se. It's very likely that whoever gets to live there will be white because the values it's built on comes from a specific lineage of white history. Sure their values and way of living is shared by many white South Africans but for many that is a foundational past exposure and many people have moved on to such an extent that having to adhere so closely to such a framework becomes just way too restrictive. I grew up there as a young child while it was still a Department of Water Affairs construction town. I was still young but remember it as being pretty basic. Almost like living in a semi permanent camp except there were actual houses, mostly prefab. You had a school and a church and a cafe and a club area, a pool etc but there was a only one of each for the most part. Everyone knew everyone whether that was good or bad. Point is everyone was there from all reaches of the country because they were somehow involved in earning a salary from working on the waterway system. The housing was built for it and other trades evolved around it (teachers for a school, a town doctor, pastor for the church, shopkeeper for the cafe etc). Once the project was over the town fell into disrepair. No jobs, looting etc. Untill it was purchased by the Orania movement and rebuilt. Many of the coloured residents who remained without jobs were replaced close by like in any other informal settlements during that time. Nothing out of the ordinary. Point being that this place became jobless after the project was complete. Until the Orania beweging showed up. Unfortunately as part of their values they don't rely on cheap non white labour. So these coloured residents, who came there in the first place for jobs supporting the Dept Water Works town, who then left once done leaving no jobs, still had no jobs.
@drea7295Ай бұрын
@@stefanmuller9653 thanks for sharing very interesting I was thinking of moving into an old place like this that also has prefab houses but it is really in the middle of nowhere I don't drive but I want to work with nature reserves in the area maybe , I think the reason they don't want to employ coloured people is because of its ideology / theology and this obviously gives jobs to residents.I do not employ anyone to do anything for me as a christian because I'd be unequally yoked with unbelievers on the odd occasion I gave someone a peace job equipment was always stolen I just do everything myself if possible but if I meet a christian born again person they want to do some work I need sure it doesn't matter what skin color they have .I understand your point of view and theirs .

This is like saying Xhosa people should just go live in the Congo or Tanzania if they don't like some people here in SA because the Bantu tribes originally migrated from up north, so they should feel at home in those countries where they originally came from, right? If the people of Orania should "just go back to Europe", why didn't black South Africans "just go back up north" to other African countries during Apartheid? The only ones who went to other African countries were those who were hunted down by police for planning to destabilise the government, everyone else stayed in SA. The people of Orania are not trying to destabilise your government, they are minding their own business, so what reason do you have to try and sanction them? The Apartheid government had better reasons than you. If they are not stealing from you and their existence does not affect you, why does it bother you that they are there?

The transition to majority rule democracy was not peaceful. There was widespread violence: the train massacres, the township wars, and a low grade civil war in KZN. We were only too happy, to let a small group of Afrikaners set up a whitostan, in a small town in the Northern Cape; if this could facilitate the transition. We thought nothing much would come of it. Nothing wrong or untoward. In fact, your terminology is an oxymoron. Your reasoning is flawed. You are completely unversed in the history and experiences of all the people in Southern Africa since 1652, the various interactions they experienced, the many hardships and few good times they lived through. What do you actually want to achieve? What are your objectives? Who were the good guys and who were the bad guys or have already decided that. Who were the warriors and who the peace makers. Who ruled the longest and who dragged the South Africa peoples into the most wars. Who exploited us the most and who invested the most in the upliftment of the people. Dr Sizwe, this has been the best attempt I have seen at the distinction between proximate explanation (the how) versus the ultimate explanation (the why). I have cringed every time people got drunk on the propaganda of the how of Orania and missed out on the why of Orania. If you asked parents in Orania where they would like their kids to go, it is usually to another country of a different culture; so much for cultural preservation! It's ok for kids to mix with Americans but not with their fellow South Africans. Personally I have no issues with whoever wants to live separately for whatever reason; I just find it insulting that it is sold as about preserving culture. As for politicians, follow the money to make sense of their postures. Maybe same applies to some of the podcasters. Thank you for seeing through the fluff. I think Orania is an irritation receiving too much attention than it is worth: I really believe there are more South Africans across race wanting to build a better South Africa for all.

1 day Orania will be big enough and start talking about independence.... since they are white, Christian and pro-Capitalism I see the west helping them out and we'll have an Israel-Palestine situation. Yes it sounds so far fetched now but i bet that's what the Palestinians said about the very 1st Israeli settlers.

@seektruth5750 our leaders are too much of ass leakers to do anything about it... we've relied on democratic process so much that we don't see danger in front of our eyes... @michellerisimatiАй бұрын
The English and the Afrikaneer don’t get along. Remember there was a war between the English and the Afrikaneer when the Afrikaneer wanted to take over South Africa, Winston Churchill himself participated in the war. South Africa was one of the few countries to form part of the commonwealth. In 1947, I think a year or few months before apartheid was legal King George the 6 (Late Queen Elizabeth II) father visited South Africa and part of the reason was to stop the Afrikaneer from legalising Apartheid and taking over South Africa. I’m not defending the British yes they colonised etc but Apartheid was the Afrikaneer 💯 even though the British also indirectly benefited.
