Nice build. The rear strap lock position seems problematic - I'd think you'd put it on the tip of the top-rear horn to prevent imbalance. However, never built something like this so maybe I'm way off. Thanks for the vid.

Thats wicked! Ive wanted to get into building guitars any advice on where to start?
@OrbitalGuitars
@OrbitalGuitars 5 жыл бұрын
I would say the biggest thing is to start with a plan laid out of all the steps to take in the build, and in what order; that should help you avoid most of the common mistakes. If you're looking to try out a build without putting a lot of money into it, you can get decent quality Mahogany of some species or other from most hardware stores, it's pretty easy to work with and fairly inexpensive. Allparts.com is a great source for all of the hardware for a build. The Crimson Custom Guitars youtube channel is also a great source of info on guitar building and they make a lot of tutorials. If there is any part of the process you want to know more about, they probably have at least one or two videos on that topic.

I would say, build your first guitar out of MDF and see where you´ve been wrong, because you´ll make a lot os mistakes. Then, when you know you messed it up, then try with playwood. When you are shure you know exactly how to doit, use good wood. I build guitars since 2006 and I still make some mistakes.
@brunoCondor
@brunoCondor 5 жыл бұрын
Nice build and some problems fixed well..but..despite i like the body shape, you said you improved the acces to the 24th fret ? It sure doesn't look that way. Next time i would shift everything at least 2 inch more to the outside. I've made the same mistakes when i started out building guitars 35 years ago Greets from Belgium.

Very nice guitar. Ive been wanting to build one for years now. Did you buy the wood for this online or local? the prices for stuff like this seem to be all over the place depending where you look. I used to be an aviation machinist so hopefully my metal working skills will transfer over to wood working.

I get most of the wood I use online, for the bulk lumber I use www.woodworkerssource.com/ for some of the more specialized pieces I use www.gilmerwood.com/categories/31-musical-instrument-wood/products and then there are some sellers on ebay like Kimball Hardwoods, which is where I got this piece of Buckeye Burl

I'm also a machinist who wants to build a guitar. Wood definitely seems more forgiving
@OrbitalGuitars
@OrbitalGuitars 5 жыл бұрын
@@gilmour73 It can be, but it's also worth keeping in mind that no 2 pieces of wood are going to behave the same way. Some can have defects that aren't visible on the surface, or variations in density that you don't know about until you start working it.

Did you have any type of chip out with the purpleheart wood? I've heard that purpleheart and Wenge can be brutal in doing that. Stellar guitar!
@OrbitalGuitars
@OrbitalGuitars 5 жыл бұрын
There were a few small chip outs on the surface that went over the jointer because the blades on it were dull, and it gave me a fairly nasty splinter at one point. I would recommend not working with purpleheart if you can avoid it, it's just not worth the trouble, especially considering that the color will just fade to brown over time anyway.

Hi. Nice build! I only recently discovered your KZbin channel and I'm working my way through your videos. But can I ask about your fret hammer please (starting around 12:25)? It looks different from any other that I've seen - is it one you built yourself or did you buy it?

Great job. I like the headstock quite a bit, but a six in line would have suited the instrument better, and the torch job on the back just looks a bit amateurish, imo. Why not just use a dark stain in that case? Great looking top wood.

I really can't understand. When I see a guitar, I see one object. When you finished yours guitar, the neck look like something you find somewhere and apply in a body guitar, simpli doesn't match. If you make a neck with same ou similar wood as body and burn it to, the results is must great.
